  1. Bad mojo from your interview I'm sure, it's the reverse of "Jungle Karma".
  2. WI wins as Tyson closes it out, I'm pleased he's pitching so well this season. Escobar has 20 BBs now on the season, he's pretty much exactly on the same pace as last season when he had 31.
  3. Helena is about to go to rain delay, lightening hitting the ground to the north, I can't believe the players are still on the field, they are apparently trying hard to get through the bottom of the 5th and make it a game? Finally a rain delay in Billings. 2 outs with a runner 3B when the game resumes, H-Crew up 2-1.
  4. Nashville has come back to tie the game at 4-4, Escobar now with a 3B and 2B, Gillespie also has 2 hits, and even Narron got a 2B. Huntsville has come back to take the lead, and actually just won 4-3, the big blow came on a Garciaparra double in the 7th, Wooten gets the save on 9 total pitches. BC up 1-0 in game 2, Anundsen doing his thing despite no Ks and 1 BB, but he's only given up 1 hit so far. Almost forgot to mention Brewer getting his 3rd career appearance at 3B in this game. WI also comes back to the lead 4-2, Lawrie with 2 hits, BK also has 2, a 2B and he got his HR, a 2R shot. Merklinger pitched very well and was hitting 90 on the stadium gun. Helena up 2-0 in the bottom half of the 5th, pretty quiet game.
  5. Steve Wendt from Helena also gave permission to archive the audio.? Thank you so much Steve!? He interviewed Mike Brownstein today.? Pretty entertaining, hates AZ weather, wanted to visit MT, Mike is a very gracious and grounded young man.
  6. In Nashville Koshansky with a HR but the Sounds are losing 4-2 in the 5th. Huntsville down 3-2 in the 7th. Garciaparra and Caufield with 2 hits a piece, Lucroy with a single. WI down 2-1 in the 5th, Kemp and BK with a 2B a piece. BC wins Game 1 big 9-4. Wilson, Gindl, Farris, Wheeler, and Miranda all with multi hit games, no Brewer in game. Game 2 just about to get underway. Helena up 1-0 to the bottom of the 2nd.
  7. Brownstein playing CF tonight for Helena, Roberts gets to play his position at C today. I thought Stang was heading to Helena? It's funny that an IF and C have ended up playing CF so far in Helena.
  8. Shoddy defense here in the 3rd for WI costs them 1 run so far, maybe more. Merk mishandled a bunt attempt and Fatse dove for a ball and let it get bye him.
  9. Thus far Lawrie has flown out to the wall just to the right of straight away center and BK flew out to the wall in LF... eat your Wheaties boys! What do you know, Delaney with a stolen base. WI scoreless through 2. BC up 9-4 in the 7th and final inning of game 1 (I hope). Escobar and Gillespie with hits, Nashville down 2-1 in the 3rd.
  10. Ha I'm sure you do! The pitchers like throwing to Lucroy, he's improved over the course of the season. Sometimes he has to "shake him off a bit" but thinks he calls a solid game. Welch also said he's a better hitter than he's shown, as he hasn't even gotten hot once yet. I started messing around with the pre-game audio trying to figure things out and missed the rest of that conversation.
  11. Wow, I switched over to the WI feed prior to the 3rd, I missed what happened. In the game log it looks like he got hurt warming up? edit. X is Welch still in the booth? He had some interesting things to say about Lucroy in the 1st.
  12. Sometimes I look at a Rivas line and ponder how he gave up runs, I wonder if he has a problem with base runners, because he tends to give up hits and walks in bunches, and gives up a HR or so per 9.
  13. Brett gave me permission to archive the pre-game audio segments for the Stars as they have no radio station affiliation to be concerned with this season.? They had a problem at the start of the pre-game interview tonight so I missed the first minute before the feed picked back up. In case you're wondering I haven't gotten a response from the T-Rats or H-Crew yet.
  14. BC scores 4 more runs, now up 7-2 I believe going to the bottom of the 3rd.
  15. BC comes up a little bit angry in the 2nd and BC takes the lead back, Schafer just singled in the lead run, BC up 3-2 going to the bottom of the 2nd.
  16. How do you know he wasn't? We aren't looking for an exact number of pitches, we're looking to err on the side of caution given that Yo is likely still at high risk in terms of physical development and also barely pitched the previous season. His arm may be able to take 200+ innings, but is it wise to even chance it?
  17. Ohh no, Gindl overruns a single in RF, likely looking up to see what the runner at 2nd was doing, it gets passed him and the runs scores plus the hitter advances all the way 3rd. BC down 1-0 with 1 out and a runner on 3rd. edit. Then Wilson follows that up by diving for a ball and then trying to throw from his knees when he had plenty of time, he pulls Errecart off the bag and all of the runners are safe, BC down 2-0.
  18. Not sure, the audio feed is live, but nothing is out there. The Stone Crabs announcer is on now, game 1 starts at 5:05 PM central
  19. Sheets didn't become Sheets until 2004... once a guy is established it's extremely difficult to acquire him if he's cost controlled. If the Brewers are going to trade for pitching longevity it would more likely be for unproven arms with upside. They might have to go down to AA to get arms. The team needs have to match up... the Rays would have been better off trading us for Fielder than signing Burrell for example, but neither GM was probably "motivated" (to steal a word from Melvin) enough to make deal. If a team is going into rebuilding I can see where they'd give up a pitcher for some top not prospects, but again the prospects have to match up with their needs. If a team already has a good cost controlled catcher are they going to want to trade for Salome or Lucroy? If they have a SS will they trade for Hardy? etc.
  20. Maybe they dont exist anymore, but I know from watching games I can tell when someones curve ball isnt breaking as much or the fastball has lost velocity or they are missing the cathers target more often. If you read the studies I linked you'll find that risk of injury is not linear... meaning each successive pitch when fatigued carries the same risk associated with it, it's actually exponential, each successive pitch past the point of fatigue greatly increases the risk of injury. If a pitcher's stuff is noticeably worse, he's already fatigued. Typically you're going to find that most articles suggest a pitcher has physically matured and carries the least amount of risk for injury around ages 24-25. Past the physical maturation point, the chance of injury slowly increases each year until retirement. Yo is 23, and only pitched 24 innings last season, common sense would seem to dictate the team should take it easy with him... Regardless of what he thinks he's capable of. The Rays did it to Price to start the season (I realize they were also saving service time) and he made a minor stink because he felt he was to ready to go. Sometimes you just have to protect a player from themselves.
  21. First off one of the many reasons PAP stinks is not all pitchers are created equal, nor are mature arms in as much danger as developing arms. It's heart is in the right place, but there are literally double digit issues with the metric. PAP aside this is about developing a pitcher, and Yo isn't fully developed, not even close. He's all we have at this point for top of the rotation talent, without him the rest is immaterial. We aren't going to outscore teams and win a world series with a rotation of Bush, Burns, Looper, Suppan, whomever... that's not realistic, nor do we really have a good chance at making the playoffs. Since there is some misinformation being spread here: BP discussion on the injury Nexus A Hardball Times discussion A Fangraphs Article Hardball Review Article A link to an actual scientific study done by Monash University in Australia. It's an interesting read and is already 12 years old, pitching discussed starting with Section 6.2, the study deals with all baseball and softball related injuries, prevention, and touches on rehabilitation.
  22. I think you read that backwards.. he was saying a bench role is a not a role he wants Gamel to get accustomed too. He agrees with you and with me.
  23. At least Don is consistently sparing in his praise... which is probably why we get so excited when he actually gushes about a player.
  24. I've said it 4 times now, Nashville, he's not a bench player, he's not accustomed to the role.
  25. Wendt described Paciorek as a line backer last night... I'm not sure I agree with that assessment from the picture above. He's got a nice frame though.
