Rattlers take series from Snappers with 6-2 win Astin wins his eighth game of the season for Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/2/91531222/cuts/Barrett_Astin_August_26_0mccc9xn_vd4obchx.jpg Barrett Astin allowed an unearned run over six innings on Tuesday afternoon to earn his eighth win of the season for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattler did what they had to do on Tuesday afternoon to close in on a Midwest League playoff spot. Wisconsin defeated the Beloit Snappers 6-2 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium behind a strong start from Barrett Astin. The Timber Rattlers (70-63 overall, 34-30) grabbed the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Clint Coulter was hit by a pitch and Michael Ratterree drew a walk to reach base to start the inning. Taylor Brennan's grounder down the third base line went off the glove of Matt Chapman for an error to drive in Coulter. Later in the inning, Angel Ortega singled to knock in Ratterree for a 2-0 lead. Wisconsin added two runs in the bottom of the third. Chris McFarland doubled and Johnny Davis walked to start the inning. Coulter was up with one out and sent a grounder wide of first. The ball was fielded cleanly by Michael Soto, but the throw to first was high and glanced off the glove of the pitcher covering the base. That allowed McFarland to score. Ratterree would drive in Davis with a sacrifice fly on the next pitch for a 4-0 lead. The Snappers (52-81, 22-41) got on the board in the fourth inning on an unearned run. BJ Boyd reached on an error to start the inning, stole second and went to third on a ground out. Soto singled through the left side of the infield to score Boyd and make the score 4-1. That was the only run Astin allowed in six innings. Astin gave up three hits, walked none, hit one, and struck out five to put himself in line for his eighth win of the season. Wisconsin added to their lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ratterree singled and Brennan followed with a hit-and-run single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Sthervin Matos knocked in Ratterree with a sacrifice fly. Brennan was still at first base with two outs when Jose Pena hit a high fly to left. The ball was lost in the Sun for a double and Brennan scored for a 6-1 lead. Tristan Archer took over in the top of the seventh inning and finished off the game by getting the final nine outs. The only run Archer allowed was a one-out solo home run in the top of the ninth to Justin Higley. Archer got the final two outs to earn his fifth save of the season. The Timber Rattlers are 2.5 games up on the Quad Cities River Bandits and three games up on the Peoria Chiefs in the race for the Western Division Wild Card in the second half heading into tonight's action in the Midwest League. The River Bandits host Cedar Rapids tonight at 7:00pm. The Chiefs play at doubleheader at Clinton beginning at 5:30pm. The Timber Rattlers will be no worse than two game up on both Bandits and Chiefs at the conclusion of play tonight in the league. There will be six games remaining in the season for all three Wild Card contenders after tonight's games are done. The Timber Rattlers continue their homestand on Wednesday when they host the Burlington Bees. Clint Terry (3-4, 2.54) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Bees have Victor Alcantara (6-6, 3.83) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 7:05pm. Wednesday's game is the final WIXX Bang for Your Buck Night. Enjoy Cher-Make hotdogs, Pepsi products, and Miller beer for $1. The first 500 fans to attend this game will receive a magnet of former Timber Rattler and current Milwaukee Brewer Khris Davis courtesy of Lamers Bus Lines. This is magnet number four in a series of four that have been given away this season. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are several ways to catch the action. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will televise the game starting at 7:00pm. The radio broadcast may be heard on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. Wednesday's game is also available to MiLB.TV subscribers. WP: Barrett Astin (8-7) LP: Hunter Adkins (1-5) SAVE: Tristan Archer (5) TIME: 2:23 ATTN: 5,951 Wisconsin Boxscore Barrett Astin has occasionally posted a gem like this, the last one was his 7 inning, 2 hit, 7 strike out performance on 5/20. I would be awesome if Barrett got hot as the play-offs approach, prior to today's action he hadn't exactly been setting the world on fire. Tristan Archer has quietly had himself a fine season. Clint Coulter was hit by what I believe to be his 20th pitch of the season and he doesn't crowd the plate at all. Unfortunately he also committed his 17th PB of the season. No Rattler had a multi-hit game as the boys only put 6 hits on the board. Wisconsin Recap Wisconsin Gameday

I don't know that we could ever claim an A ball team is the most prospect laden group we've ever had, too much can happen before those guys even hit AA. I'd like to have AA or AAA team loaded like Seattle, KC, and the Cubs have had in recent years... A nice return to that Jeffress, Aguilar, Escobar, Brantley, Gamel, LaPorta, Cain, and Gillespie AA team from 2008. It could happen if our group in WI right now catches the group in BC. I agree that it will never happen. I don't see Lara skipping the DSL as it's just not something the Brewers have ever done, and they've never pushed a non college prospect all the way to A ball for their first taste, that's an awfully steep hill to climb. Gatewood is going to need another year of Rookie ball, I would put Medeiros in that group as well. Harrison is interesting... I guess quite a bit will depend on how instructs go and what kind of base the young men develop for Spring Training next year. WI is going to have a bunch of bats worth following next year but the pitching is looking sketchy as of right now. -
Rattlers rally to beat Beloit 7-3 Wisconsin wins to maintain lead in Wild Card race By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/1/4/91453614/cuts/Seidenberger_Aug_25_yzjh3nak_6vphpe20.jpg Trevor Seidenberger tossed a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Beloit Snappers in a 7-3 Timber Rattlers victory on Monday night. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were outhit by the Beloit Snappers Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium, but Wisconsin picked up a 7-3 victory thanks to five Beloit errors in the game. The win was an important one for the Rattlers in their race for the second half Western Division Wild Card. Beloit (52-80 overall, 22-40 second half) scored first. BJ Boyd doubled with one out in the first. Matt Chapman was next and he singled to center to drive in Boyd for a 1-0 lead. The Snappers had a chance to add to their lead in the fourth inning. Ryan Mathews hit a high fly to left that was lost in the twilight and hit on the warning track for a double. An error on the play allowed Mathews to take third base with no outs. Salas struck out the next two batters and got the third out on a grounder to third to strand Mathews at third. But, Mathews added to the lead later in the game as he hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the sixth for a 2-0 lead. The Rattlers (69-63, 33-30) rallied in the bottom of the sixth. David Denson doubled off the wall in center with one out. Wisconsin loaded the bases as Clint Coulter was hit by a pitch and Michael Ratterree singled. Taylor Brennan knocked in Denson with a sacrifice fly to left that was deep enough to allow Coulter to take third and Ratterree to move to second. Rafael Neda sent a grounder to second that was bobbled. A rushed throw to first to get Neda was wild and both Coulter and Ratterree scored for a 3-2 lead. Beloit answered in the top of the seventh against reliever Luke Curtis. Josh Ludy hit a two-out solo home run to the beach beyond the wall in right-center to tie the game 3-3. Jose Pena reached on an error to start the bottom of the seventh and Chris McFarland drew a walk. Denson singled back through the middle with one out and Pena scored for a 4-3 Wisconsin advantage. The Timber Rattlers put the game away in the bottom of the eighth inning without putting the ball out of the infield until the final batter. Ratterree was hit by a pitch and took second on a wild pitch. Brennan sacrificed him to third base and Neda drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out. Johnny Davis dropped a perfect safety squeeze bunt to get Ratterree home from third. Davis would reach on the bunt single as Beloit didn't have anyone covering first base. Pena was hit on an 0-2 curveball to load the bases again. McFarland was at the plate with the bases loaded, one out, and the infield playing in on the grass. McFarland sent a hard grounder to short and the throw home was wild. Pena and Davis scored on error and Wisconsin was up 7-3. Trevor Seidenberger, who just rejoined the Timber Rattlers earlier in the day, gave up a leadoff double in the top of the ninth inning. Then, he retired the next three batters to close out the Wisconsin win. In the Western Division Wild Card Race, Wisconsin moved their record to 33-30 in the half. The Quad Cities River Bandits defeated Cedar Rapids 3-2 on Monday night to get to 31-32. The Peoria Chiefs, who are 30-32, were rained out in Clinton on Monday and will play a doubleheader on Tuesday with the LumberKings. Wisconsin has a two game lead over the River Bandits and are 2-1/2 games up on the Chiefs for the Wild Card spot. There are seven games remaining in the regular season. The final game of the series between Wisconsin and Beloit is Tuesday afternoon. Barrett Astin (7-7, 5.19) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Hunter Adkins (1-4, 4.27) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Snappers. Game time is 12:05pm. Tuesday is Kids Rock the Ballpark presented by Neuroscience Group. Kids 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog and soda and can play on the inflatable games for free throughout the game as part of Kids Rock the Ballpark presented by Neuroscience Group. Appleton Rock School will be rocking the ballpark, too with a pre-game performance in front of the stadium. Peppa Pig returns to meet with fans before and during the game on this Tuesday afternoon. Milwaukee Brewers mascot Bernie Brewer will also be at the ballpark for photos and high-fives! Kids can visit the Neuroscience Group tent located by the third base grass berm to receive a free bike helmet after learning about the benefits of bike helmet safety through hands-on activities. Quantities are limited. Sign the Wear Your Helmet Pledge to receive an additional gift. Show your business card when you purchase a ticket and for $13.50 you will receive a box seat ticket, a beverage, and your choice of brat or hot dog to take advantage of the Baker Tilly Business Person special. The offer is also available to senior citizens (55 & older) courtesy of WVBO and AM1280 WNAM. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 11:45am. Tuesday's game is also available to MiLB.TV subscribers. HOME RUNS: BEL: Ryan Mathews (12th, 0 on in 6th inning off Javier Salas, 2 out) Josh Ludy (2nd, 0 on in 7th inning off Luke Curtis, 2 out) WP: Luke Curtis (1-0) LP: Tyler Vail (3-6) TIME: 2:56 ATTN: 5,651 Wisconsin Boxscore Javier Salas pitched a real nice game, he was around the plate all night, stuck out 6, and didn't walk any. He left some pitches up early and the HR was a pretty poor pitch, but he looked good and I pleased with how he handled that misplayed ball I mentioned in an earlier post. TLB beat me to the punch on David Denson (2-4,2B,BB) but I'll discuss him anyway. In his 1st AB he made poor contact and dribbled a ball back to the pitcher. In his 2nd AB he smoked a line drive that the 1B went up and snagged for a nice defensive play, in his 3rd AB he drilled that double which TLB mentioned, and in his 4th AB he smashed a ball off the pitcher's mound and into CF. The TV crew was talking to Rob Zerjav who mentioned Denson might repeat WI next year and while I know he lost quite a bit of time with that broken bone, I sincerely hope that is not the case. David hasn't looked lost at the plate all season, his defense made some nice strides, and he runs very well for a big man. In short, there's nothing really holding him back except for his lost time. He probably wouldn't spend a full season in WI anyway but I'd still like to see him get pushed a little. David Denson for BC in 2015! Wisconsin Recap Wisconsin Gameday

Sounds Rattled By River Cats, 20-1 Nashville's Sean Halton Goes 2-for-3 With Team's Lone RBI Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds (74-62) allowed a franchise-high 20 runs to the visiting Sacramento River Cats to lose 20-1 Monday night at Greer Stadium. The loss, coupled with Memphis' 1-0 win over Fresno, gives the Redbirds a one-game lead in the division. Sacramento racked up 24 hits, matching the most allowed by Sounds pitchers in franchise history, to hand Nashville its largest deficit in a loss this season. Each of the R-Cats batters finished with multiple hits. The River Cats went up 2-0 in the second inning when infielder Jose Martinez lifted pitcher Billy Buckner's 2-1 pitch just over the left-field wall. The dinger scored Shane Peterson, who singled to get on base. Buckner (4-6) surrendered two more runs in the top of the third inning: one via a wild pitch and another on Martinez's two-out single. Martinez finished with three hits, while Nick Buss and Alden Carrithers totaled four each. The 30-year-old Sounds pitcher took the loss in his first start for Nashville, allowing six runs on six hits over three innings of work. Buckner fired five strikeouts and issued two walks in the 74-pitch outing. Sacramento continued its offensive barrage with four runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take an 11-1 lead on the Sounds. Sounds reliever Jose De La Torre entered in the fourth inning to pitch three innings for Nashville, but allowed five runs to match a career-high on seven hits and one walk. In the seventh inning, the R-Cats touched reliever Dustin Molleken for three runs on two hits and two walks. Only Rob Wooten kept the R-Cats off the board with his spotless eighth inning. Reliever Tim Dillard followed in the ninth to let in six runs on five RBI singles, which included a ground ball single that spun into Matt Clark's jersey to stop the play, and one throwing error by Dillard. Outfielder Sean Halton, 2-for-3, gave Nashville its only run of the contest with his two-out single in the home half of the fourth inning. Pete Orr, Eugenio Velez, Jason Rogers, Hunter Morris and Caleb Gindl also recorded a hit in the contest. The Sounds will play game three against Sacramento on Tuesday afternoon at 7:05 p.m. Nashville sends RHP Taylor Jungmann (8-5, 4.22) to the hill opposite the Sacramento's RHP and former Vandy star Matt Buschmann (8-6, 4.56). Nashville Boxscore This is the ugliest boxscore/recap I've covered in my years helping out with the LR. The score pretty much speaks for itself... what a drubbing... and of course Memphis climbs back on top in the play-off picture. Nashville Recap Nashville Gameday

Jose Pena just lost a ball in the lights which landed a couple of feet onto the warning track right behind him, but the ball hung up there so long Johnny Davis made it all the way over from CF to pickup the ball and throw it in. The play turned into stand up triple but Salas got out of the inning, nice job Javier.

2014 Regular Season Divisional Prospect News
TheCrew07 replied to TooLiveBrew's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Yes anytime a prospect doesn't set the world on fire in his first big league test the player was vastly overrated. Who ever claimed either guy would be the next Mike Trout? I said they will be impact players and talked about Polanco's athleticism, but how many people ever compare a prospect to a HOF type player? I would argue the Pirates would have been better served letting him work through his issues. However if you google Polanco you'll find a ton of Clint Hurdl comments about Polanco's swing and how they can't afford him to underperform and so on... but only because Schnider got hot in limited opportunities and kept it going. This is no different than what happened to Gamel with McGehee... however the Brewers are doing just fine with Segura in the line-up everyday and a terrible 1B platoon. I think the effect of one struggling player on the offense is greatly exaggerated by fans, media, and people around baseball. Is it ever ideal for a player to struggle? Certainly not, but every team should expect young players to be up and down early in their career... Gennett, Escobar, and Braun have been the only Brewer prospects who hit the ground running out of the gate and when Alcides struggled the following year Macha sat him every time he didn't hit well over a 3 game span. Every team has both cold and hot hitters in the line-up every single day, given enough time both Polanco and Taveras will likely turn it around and be a thorn in our side for years to come. -

Sounds Blow Out River Cats In Series Opener, 14-2 Nashville Belts Four Homers En Route To Highest Scoring Output Of Year Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/6/8/91302868/cuts/MorrisCamo0824_2uprjvtb_2k7x5fbg.jpg (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In a battle of first-place clubs, the Nashville Sounds blew out the Sacramento River Cats, 14-2, on Sunday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. The 14 runs scored were the most for the Sounds this season. Six Nashville batters recorded multiple-hit efforts during the club's 16-hit attack, which included a season-high four home runs. With the win, the Sounds (74-61) maintained their first place tie with Memphis, which defeated Fresno, with nine games to play in the season. Hunter Morris paced the Nashville offense with a 3-for-5, three-RBI evening. Matt Clark homered during a 2-for-4, three-RBI evening to extend his hitting streak to 14 games for the Sounds. Sean Halton, Jeremy Hermida, and Logan Schafer also homered for Nashville in the victory. Michael Blazek (4-4) won for the third time in the last five starts by tossing a quality start for the Sounds. The right-hander held the River Cats to two runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings of work. In nine home starts at Greer Stadium, Blazek has posted a 2.08 ERA (9er/39.0ip). The Sounds grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when Morris led off with a single against River Cats starter Angel Castro and later scored on Pete Orr's RBI single. Sacramento took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Anthony Aliotti was hit by a pitch and raced around to score when Shane Peterson followed with a double to the left-center gap, his PCL-leading 37th two-bagger of the year. Peterson later scored on a two-out Alden Carrithers single off Blazek. Nashville answered the Cats' two-run rally with one of its own in the home half of the inning. Jason Rogers (3-for-4), who missed the cycle by a homer, led off with a triple to right and tied the game when he scored on a Morris groundout. Halton powered the Sounds to a 3-2 advantage when he launched a massive solo homer to left, the slugger's seventh big fly of the year. In the sixth, Clark, who is hitting .482 (27-for-56) during his 14-game streak, stroked a leadoff double and upped the Nashville lead to 4-2 when he scored on a Morris single. The Sounds blew the game open with their biggest inning of the year, an eight-run, seventh-inning outburst against a trio of River Cats hurlers that stretched the lead to 12-2. Clark and Jeremy Hermida each delivered three-run homers during the frame; the blasts accounted for each slugger's 13th roundtripper of the year. Nashville closed out the night's scoring in the eighth when Schafer swatted a solo homer, his first of the year, and Morris delivered a two-out RBI double. The teams continue the homestand with a 7:05 p.m. meeting on Monday. Right-hander Billy Buckner (4-5, 5.54) will make his first start for the Sounds following a pair of hitless relief outings for the club. Sacramento will counter with right-hander Zach Neal (6-7, 4.53). Nashville Boxscore The boxscore and game log are a fun read. Matt Pagnozzi was the only Sound to go hitless in this contest. Alfredo Vigaro and Arcenio Leon closed out the game on the mound for Nashville with scoreless appearances. Interesting stat of the day... Sounds pitchers allowed more walks (4) than strike outs (3) which is a rarity this year. Nashville Recap Nashville Gameday

I intentionally didn't post this yesterday because once again TH writes the easy story about the player on the MLB roster when every other beat writer is actually digging into prospect stories. However if I don't post his stories then perhaps no one will notice how useless this "reporting" is. I have no problem with JJ, but seriously anyone on this forum could have written this story with the information at hand. Hey Tom how about actually digging into Devin Williams or Tucker Neuhaus? What about the 3 top picks from this year's draft? What about an ascending prospect like Orlando Arcia? Jeffress Happy To Be Back Home August 23, 2014 by Tom Haudricourt Wang was actually bumped to A+ the day this story was posted by BA. The lack of effort and research into anything prospect related is appalling. Just put a back dated start of the rehab from 3 weeks ago into the story because that's what people really care about. Yet somehow he gets pissy every year in the Brewer Top 10 prospect chat when people challenge his actual knowledge of the minor leagues, well maybe if he would actually write about a subject that wasn't already common knowledge among the Brewer faithful... -

Snappers stop Rattlers 4-2 Wisconsin outhits Beloit 13-3, but falls in series opener By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/8/2/91301182/cuts/Ortega_Greeting_8_24_uvu1q737_ick91e1e.jpg Angel Ortega is greeted by his teammates after his third inning home run gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead over the Beloit Snappers on Sunday. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers banged out thirteen hits and held the Beloit Snappers to only three hits on Sunday at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. But, the Snappers rode homers by Michael Soto and Ryan Matthews to a 4-2 win. Angel Ortega put the Rattlers (68-63 overall, 32-30 second half) in front with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third inning. The homer was the fourth of the season for the Wisconsin shortstop. Beloit (52-79, 22-39) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Wisconsin starting pitcher Preston Gainey retired the first thirteen batters of the game. Then, Soto hit a home run to left with one out in the top of the fifth. The Snappers took the lead in the top of the sixth. Chih-Fang Pan started the inning with a single. He was sacrificed to second and took third on a grounder to second base. A passed ball on a pitch to BJ Boyd allowed Pan to score the go-ahead run. Matt Chapman reached on an error to start the top of the seventh inning. Mathews was next and he lined a homer to left to give Beloit a 4-1 lead. Matt Stalcup was the Beloit starting pitcher. He allowed nine hits over five innings, but only allowed one run before turning the game over to Sam Roberts. Roberts retired the Rattlers in order in the sixth, but Ortega and Michael Ratterree singled to start the bottom of the seventh to put runners at the corners. Clint Coulter hit a fly ball to left-center that was deep enough to score Ortega and cut the Beloit lead to two runs. Sthervin Matos and Johnny Davis both singled with two outs in the seventh to load the bases. Beloit brought Brendan McCurry into the game to face Jose Pena. Pena hit a line drive to left, but it was right at Mathews for the final out. McCurry tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning and turned the game over to Joe Seddon for the ninth. Ratterree drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, but Seddon retired the next three batters to close out the game. The Timber Rattlers got their leadoff batter on base in seven of the nine innings, stranded thirteen runners, and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in Sunday's game. In the Western Division Wild Card race, Peoria lost at Clinton and Quad Cities beat Cedar Rapids. Peoria and Quad Cities now have identical 30-32 records in the second half and are two games behind Wisconsin. Clinton is 27-35 and five games behind the Rattlers. There are eight games remaining in the season. Game two of the series is Monday night. Javier Salas (1-1, 2.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Joey Wagman (1-2, 7.56) is set to start for the Snappers. Game time is 7:05pm. The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive a poster of the 2014 Timber Rattlers team photo courtesy of Dunkin Donuts, the tenth and final poster in the 2014 series. Rattlers beat Chiefs 11-7 in wild 11-inning game Wisconsin grabs control of Wild Card race By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers PEORIA, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers picked up a wild, 11-7 victory in eleven innings over the Peoria Chiefs Saturday night at Dozer Park. The win gave the Timber Rattlers the season series - and with it the tie-breaker - over the Chiefs and pushed their lead in the second half Western Division Wild Card race back out to two games over the Chiefs. But, it was a long and twisting road with a few wrong turns in it before the Rattlers got to their destination. Wisconsin (68-62 overall, 32-29 second half) grabbed the lead in the second inning. Clint Coulter reached on a leadoff single to start the inning. Taylor Brennan was next and fell behind 0-2. Brennan fouled off two more pitches before lining a no doubt home run to left-center to put the Rattlers up 2-0. The Timber Rattlers added to their lead in the third inning. Paul Eshleman reached on an error and Chris McFarland doubled to right-center to put runners on second and third. Michael Ratterree knocked both runners in with a sharp single to left for a 4-0 advantage. McFarland made it 5-0 with a two-out, RBI double to left that scored Jose Pena. Wisconsin starting pitcher Zach Quintana faced the minimum without allowing a hit in his first three innings. But, the Chiefs charged back in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game on six straight hits. CJ McElroy, Jr., Richy Pedroza, and Justin Ringo started the rally with singles to load the bases. Carson Kelly followed with a single to drive in McElroy. Rowan Wick was next and he doubled to right to score Pedroza and Ringo. Ronald Castillo tied the game with a two-run single to right. Controversy turned up in the top of the fifth inning. The Timber Rattlers had runners at first and second with two outs and Sthervin Matos at the plate. Matos hooked a line drive to the left field corner that appeared to hit the foul pole below the yellow line. Plate umpire Ryan Doherty ruled it a fair ball for a two-run double for Matos. Then, Peoria manager Joe Kruzel came out to argue and got Doherty to discuss the call with base umpire Richard Riley. After the consultation between the crew, the call was overturned and ruled a foul ball. Wisconsin manager Matt Erickson was not happy. Erickson, who was stationed at the third base coaching box, made his displeasure known to both umpires before he was ejected. Play would eventually restart and Matos would reach when the Chiefs (67-62, 30-31) messed up a force play at second. But, the game would remain tied as the Rattlers left the bases loaded in the fifth. Wisconsin went back in front in the top of the sixth inning. Eshleman and McFarland drew walks with one out. Ratterree lined a two-out single to center to score Eshleman and the Rattlers were up 6-5. McFarland provided the Rattlers with some insurance in the eighth inning. Jose Pena doubled to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Eshleman moved Pena to third. McFarland hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to left field to knock in Pena with a run to make it 7-5. But, the Chiefs rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. Ringo started the inning with a single off Chad Thompson. Wick reached on an infield single with one out. A throwing error on the play allowed Ringo to take third base. Castillo was next and he hit a ball to almost the exact spot that Matos did in the fifth inning. This ball was ruled a fair ball and an RBI double to score Ringo and send Wick to third base. Chris Razo entered the game in place of Thompson and got Luis Perez to send a grounder to third. Wick took off for home and was out on a throw from Matos, but Castillo took third on the play. The next pitch from Razo was wild and Castillo scored to tie the game 7-7. Wisconsin went back in front in the top of the eleventh and by the time the inning was over, Kruzel had been ejected, too. Coulter started the inning with a double off the top of the wall in left field near the foul pole again. Brennan was next and hit a slow grounder to short for an infield single. Coulter gambled that he could make it to third and got in when Medina dropped the throw on a close play. Denson delivered Coulter across the plate with a line single to left and Wisconsin was up 8-7. Johnny Davis chopped a single to left as the Chiefs charged for a bunt and that loaded the bases. Pena hit a fly ball to left-center that was deep enough for Brennan to score, Denson to take third, and Davis to move to second. Eshleman was next and he lined a single to right on an 0-2 pitch to score Denson for a 10-7 lead. The play that set Kruzel off was a grounder to second baseman Michael Schulze with the infield in to try and get Davis at the plate. McFarland's high bouncer hit right at Schulze, who came home with the throw. But, the throw was high and Davis got in under the tag with a head-first dive and Wisconsin was up 11-7. Kruzel disagreed. He argued until he was ejected and then kicked dirt on home plate before leaving the field. Razo, who had pitched a scoreless ninth and a scoreless tenth, got the first out of the eleventh. Then, Medina singled and Schulze reached on an error to bring McElroy back to the plate. The speedy leadoff hitter for the Chiefs hit a hard, one-hopper to Brennan at third. He fielded it cleanly and threw a strike to McFarland at second for the out on Schulze. McFarland turned a fired to Denson at first to beat McElroy for the game-ending, around-the-horn double play. Sthervin Matos had another costly error and was replaced by David Denson who went in at 1st and slid Brennan over to 3rd. Angel Ortega committed his 35 error in the 11th... for reference Orlando Arcia had 23 in 2013 and Yadiel Rivera 22 in 2012. Steve Wendt mentioned a couple of times last year that the Brewers thought Ortega was the best defender of that trio but Chris has made no such claim when I was listening this season. Chris McFarland (2-4,2 2B, 2 BB), Michael Ratterree (3-6), Clint Coulter (2-5,2B,BB), Taylor Brennan (3-5,HR,BB), Jose Pena (2-5,2B), and Paul Eshleman (2-4,BB) all had multi-hit games as the Rattlers pounded out 17 hits in this 11 inning game.
