  1. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on where YoGa should pitch. Should Bush move to the pen? Is Vargas as good as his ERA? In addition Russ brought up how differently people view each pitcher sometimes based on little more than gut feeling. So what is your perception? How do you rank the Brewer's pitchers? 1. Sheets 2. Villanueva 3. Cordero 4. Turnbow 5. Capuano 6. Gallardo 7. Bush 8. Suppan 9. Wise 10. Vargas 11. Spurling 12. Shouse (And after typing that I realize that what I thought was a "weakness", our bullpen - is pretty darn good)
  2. I was significantly worried (and still am) about Rickie hurting his wrist. The attribute that everyone pointed to that made Rickie special was his bat speed. If his wrist is messed up - he just lost the one thing that made him good. He has looked very bad lately. No doubt about it. But it is really hard to judge when none of us have any idea of how hurt he is. Corey Hart was playing pretty poor in April and May (Sub .800 OPS) largely because he was trying to play through an injury. His June had an OPS of over 1.000. If anything, when dealing with players coming off of injury or dealing with bumps and bruises that best way to evalute them is to look at their BEST streak and know that they are capable of that. (Hardy replicating his second half a few years ago and showing that he can really hit. Corey this year playing up to what he showed last year) That doesn't mean they will ever be that good again. But at least that is possible.
  3. LOL... The Vent thread may still be on page 2. But let me tell you, reading post tonight - lots of crabby Brewer Fans out there! I hate losing to the Cubs as much as anyone. But seems like every thread I read has two Brewer fans going at each other.
  4. Lots of good advice so far. I forgot about this one - the YMCA I work out has this listed in their program. I think I will give them a call. (Even though I am not technically injured - they can probably point me on the right track) I had also thought about the knee brace. (But buying a bunch of gadgets like braces and shoes without knowing the problem MIGHT solve it. But it might just leave me with a bunch of stuff I didn't need) I thought about Yoga too. My YMCA offers Pilates - think that is close enough?
  5. For the record, I just sold (a few weeks back) the alternative Miller and Turnbow bobbleheads. I got $25.50 for Turnbow and $33.89 for Damian Miller. And that was with shipping. So I came in well below your marks. But thanks a lot for the effort. That is a really neat reference for everyone.
  6. Personally, I think if we trade any of our blocked players we should move the other way. I don't see how Jackson, Sarfate or even Gwynn will ever help this team. I also don't think they are going to be part of a trade the will significantly upgrade this team either. I think if you trade any of those players you trade them to a team willing to give up a young A player with upside. That way you keep the pipeline stocked for when some of our current young player inevitably walk.
  7. I have worked for Non-Profits in the past. I am not interested in ever doing it again. Your point is well taken here. Most non-profits employ lots of employees who are collecting paycheck without making the world a much better place. (Or donating anything back) I give generously to any non-profit that has no employees and everyone involved is donating their time. As soon as people start collecting a check and it becomes their "job" the mission is soon lost - and they look out for themselves instead of the cause. I don't donate to any cause the has employees anymore. And I feel my money is being used much better. (Since 100% is going to the mission)
  8. I've heard this before too. But I never know how much stock to put into it. The guys at the oil change place tell me my serpentine belt needs to be replaced every time. They need to tell me that to make a sale. The guy at the shoe store will tell me that I need these shoes, because he needs to sell me something as well.
  9. The Brewers are like dating that kinda off center freaky chick. The highs are a hell of a lot of fun. But the lows are so bad you can't remember what the high feels like. These mood swings are killing me.
  10. I swear we talked about this last year. (Or else I am crazy, because it was the first thing that popped into my head when YoGa batted) I thought the final verdict was that it was technically legal to have a different starting pitcher. It was just considered "bush league" and if anyone ever did it they would end up changing the rules. But of course, I might have missed the ending of that thread.
  11. At least we didn't listen to all of the posters who wanted to give Cordero 4 years and 40 million to stay with the Brewers past this year. For those keeping score at home - Coco has 27 saves in 30 attempts. If you look at Turnbows game log, he would have a very similar save percentage. So maybe Turnbow as a closer next year isn't so bad. You might throw your TV out of the window 10% of the time. But the results will be there the other 90%.
  12. About a year ago I started to seriously run again for the first time since high school. (I am 27) I had stayed in decent shape, so I was able to start out with about 3 mile run. As weeks went by added more and more miles as I felt better. Soon I was running 7 miles in a clip without thinking twice about it. Once after running seven miles I lifted a few weights - felt good, and did it again. At that point I started thinking I might as well run a marathon. About 3 months ago I decided I would run a half marathon on the treadmill to see how I felt. I had no problem and kept a good pace. But the next day my knee started hurting. I figured I had just over done it and had a case of "runners knee". I took the next week off and went easy the week after. Slowly I worked my way back up to my 7 mile runs. I had no problems. However, when I try to push past 10 miles - my knee starts to hurt again. (sometimes one - sometimes the other) I saw a doctor awhile back for my runners knee. She told me to work on strengthening my hamstrings and stretching. So I have. I feel I have the stamina to run a marathon right now. But I can't get past my knee pain. It is never severe - but I don't want to push it to that point either. I have a decent pair of shoes. (I think - $75 Nikes) I am running on a treadmill - so the shock shouldn't be too much. Anyone ever have similar problems or have any advice (strengthening? stretches?) to get past it?
  13. Can you name 10 points guards in the NBA who are better? I would say Mo is pretty close to #10. And when you remove a few players because of their age (Kidd) - I really like Mo. Is he a typical PG? Maybe not. But he is a really good scorer, a good rebounder and had around 6 dimes a game. Short of Chris Paul/Deron Williams type players - I fail to to many who I would rather have.
  14. I actually found my own answer today. I had never thought about comparing him to a young pitcher coming off of an injury. But that seems a reasonable comparison. Our own Chris Capuano pitched 175.2 innings in 2003.He then threw only 100.5 in 2004. In 2005 he pitched 219.0 for the Brewers. That was a huge jump of 119 innings in one year. So apparently once your arm is ready for full time duty - one down year doesn't offset that. (Of course, you could argue that Cappy has had some poor second halfs of the season, presumably from a tired arm - but no real injury to speak of.
  15. Concerned yet? I was first concerned when Billy watched his home run for a long time in Detroit. But since that was a slump busting way out of here home run - no big deal. But since then I can think several instances (home runs, foul balls, almost home runs, almost foul balls) where Bill has just stood at the plate and not hustled his butt down to first. If Bill gets thrown out at second in the 11th today - Jenkins doesn't get walked. And who knows what happens to the entire course of the game. I don't like his attitude this year.
  16. We have talked (extensively) about the need to get Yovani enough work - while limiting his innings so as to protect his arm. The goal (I believe) would be to get YoGa around 170 innings this year. So that next year he can be inserted as a full time starter without having to worry too much about overworking him. But with Carlos Villanueva working out of the pen, we are severely limiting his innings. He is on pace for only 113.4 innings this year. I assume (hope) that he will be a part of our rotation going forward. In 2005 he pitched 132.3 innings. In 2006 he pitched 181.40. He was perfectly "stretched" out enough to be a full time starter in 2007. If he only pitches 113 this year - does that limit his chances of being a full time starter next year? Or should he be past that point already since he has shown he can pitch 180 in a year? At the very least, I would like to see Carlos get a few 3 or 4 inning outings when a starting pitcher struggles a little out of the gate. (When you can clearly see that Suppan doesn't have his "stuff" - pull him early and let Carlos get some extra innings)
  17. What up with all the Mo Williams haters? I think he was a top 10 point guard last year. 17ppg, 6 assist and almost 5 boards is nothing to shake a stick at. I like Conley alot. And he will likley be better the future. But I would rather just resign Mo and add another impact player. Letting Mo leave and drafting Conley is a lateral move.
  18. If he sells the team - it is leaving Wisconsin. I agree he might have meddles a little too much. But Simmon, Thomas, Gadzurich, Mason etc were all times he opened HIS wallet (remember he is often losing money on this team) and the GM completely wasted it. The Williams & Magloire for Boozer trade doesn't sound right to me at all. I never heard that before - do we have a good source? (link?) Magloire doesn't fit the needs of Utah at all. They use big men that can pass a bit and they have Okur. They had Williams and could have matched our offer for him two years ago if they wanted him so badly. On top of that - they have Deron Williams, why would they possibly want Mo? That trade sounds like wishful thinking on the part of a Bucks fan.
  19. Can I ask why Herb Kohl sucks? He paid the luxary tax for several years on this team when they were pushing on into the playoffs. He has been willing to open his walllet pretty much whenever we wanted to sign a FA. (It's not his fault that money was spent on Simmons and Gads) And in spite of having a very poor arena - where he has no hope of really turning a profit - he has kept this team in Milwaukee. (Remember when Jordan wanted to buy the team and move it to Chicago) He has tried to put a winning team on the floor. And most importantly - he has commited to keeping the team in Milwaukee. I can't complain about him.
  20. 100% wrong. Without a doubt. I disagree saying it is like holding. As holding isn't always intentional. Sometimes the difference between a great block and hold is so slight it is hard to judge the difference. And that becomes the refs job - establishing at what point it becomes a hold. Everything up to holding is perfectly legal and NEEDS to be done to be successful. This is just cheating. There is nothing clever about it. This is no different the cheating on a test in school. You could argue it is ok to cheat on a test too - as long as you don't get caught, you didn't do anything wrong. It is cheating the other team. It is cheating on the game. It is cheating the umps. And you are cheating yourself by teaching people to take advantage of every situation even when it is the wrong thing to do. If you lose you lose. Sports is in the contest - not the results.
  21. My wife can't attend with me tomorrow as planned - and it is kinda late to call up all my friends trying to find a replacement. My current plan is to use one ticket and walk in (get a bobblehead) - walk out - and use the other to get back in and at least get both bobbleheads. But I figured I would see if anyone wanted a free ticket here. So if you are interested (and willing to give me the bobblehead) PM me and we can work out a place to meet before the game. After that, I don't really care if you sit by me or go off and find your own seat. (Either way I am not offended. I have other friends I am tailgating with and might try to find a seat next to them as well.) The ticket isn't anything special - Section 421, Row 16
  22. Or that balloon make him untradable. Maybe Suppon wanted that balloon, thinking at that point in his career he didn't really want to move on. And the Brewers weren't willing to give him a no trade clause.
  23. I didn't see it, as I was listening on the radio today, but Jim Powell kinda called Bill out on not running to first base on a foul ball. Jim said the ball only landed foul by about a foot and that Bill never left the batters box.
  24. WELL DONE! I'll be chuckling about that everytime I see Estrada swing at a high and tight one.
