  1. This can't be true. If it was it would have happened already. I don't think Melvin would have let him hang up the phone without completing a deal.
  2. This vent isn't related to tonights game... But how long do we need to keep pretending the Jenkins is playing ok? Since April he has been HORRIBLE!
  3. I really like that offer actually. Seems pretty reasonable for both sides. I am a big Arroyo fan and his W/L this year has been horrible, his other numbers aren't too bad and he has shown a lot in the past. It would leave us with an all right handed rotation going forward though... How about we increase the deal even more and throw in a decent prospect and get Dunn while we are at it.
  4. Wow...I am shocked so many people disagree with AJAY. I haven't even been able to watch all of the past 4 games and I have noticed a change in his demenor. Last night he was out at the mound THREE times to talk it over with the pitchers. Maddux didn't head to the mound once! Ned has always taken a very casual laid back and let the men do their job attitude. He seems significantly more active in his decisions lately. Benching Weeks isn't that surprising considering Ned has shown a tendency to stick with a player through a slump...but only to a point. Weeks is at the point. But pinch hitting for Weeks with Graffy was something new for me. Once Ned names his starters for that day - he plans on sticking with him. (Just think about all the times Mench or Jenkins has struck out after they removed the starter and brought in a pitcher just for them) Mench has batted against a lot of righties. And Jenkins has batted against a lot of lefties. I like this Ned.
  5. My mother has faced cancer three times now. And three times she has kicked the grim reaper square in the teeth and told him to piss off. Best of luck to your mother. I will say a prayer for her tonight. Ovarian cancer is pretty scary stuff in that it is much more difficult to just "remove" the problem. We are talking about something deep inside of you and the problem isn't always so isolated. Chemo is scary. Be there for her. It isn't fun - but it is very doable. (My mother didn't lose her hair the first time - but the next two she did) It may seem silly when facing death - but lots of time they worry about the little things like their hair falling out and how they look. I always make a point to tell my mom how good she looks. I think she likes that. The good news is the survival rate of ovarian cancer (and all cancer) is way better than it used to be. The bad news is ovarian cancer has a good tendency to repeat in other parts of the body. So she will need to monitor her cancer marker for the rest of her life to "stay on top" of it. Chemo can also have lasting side effect. But with this only being her first go round - she should be ok. But after three rounds my mother can't walk too far because her feet start to hurt as a side effect of the years of chemo. (Also, and I am sure this isn't really your department - but I would imagine she will have a hysterectomy with her treatments to remove her ovaries. That is a really big deal to woman. REALLY BIG. She is going to feel like they are taking away her womanhood - imagine chopping off your...well you know. Make sure your Dad is understanding there)
  6. There is a good crowd saying the Sheet is injury prone and a good crowd saying that is ridiculous. Does anyone outside of Brewer fans not see him as an injury prone guy? I think that is a pretty good unbias indication. If anything, the fact that his injuries are unrelated points more to the fact that he is injury prone. If they were all related you could at least point that it might be something that can be resolved in the future. Boy is he good when he is on. But having your ace miss 5 - 10 starts a year is a really tough task to overcome.
  7. Forgot to mention... Giving up alcohol is a BIG help as well. If you are a 300 lb guy it takes a lot of liquid to get buzzed or drunk. You can pretty easily drink an entire days worth of calories just going out on a friday night. One MGD has 143 calories. I ran 12 miles yesterday and burned off 1500 calories. If you drink 10 MGDs on a saturday night - are you really going to run 10+ miles to burn that off and get back to even?
  8. Don't drink your caleries is very good advice. After a few weeks of laying off of the Milk, Soda, Orange Juice and what not you won't even miss it. I have never had a weight problem (6'1 155) but I run a lot and eat ridiculously healthy. So I can at least offer some advice - even if I can't relate to the battle you must go through. 1. You are already behind the 8 ball. Staying at a weight isn't that hard - but losing 50+ pounds is a big task. In an ideal world everyone commits to staying in shape instead of having to get back in shape! 2. Weight gain or loss is really a mathmatical function. You eat more caleries that you burn - you gain weight. You eat less than you burn - you lose weight. There is a product called called BODYBUGG that is pretty expensive but can be a REALLY helpful too. 3. I think for those overweight already - lifting weights is very overrated. (Recent Studies have shown that having extra muscle doesn't does help burn more caleries. ie. You don't just burn caleries sitting on your butt even if you are ripped) If you have 30 minutes to work ou - you burn FAR more caleries running/jogging that lifting weights. Plus, and I see this ALOT at the gym...you aren't going to see any muscle until you get the fat off of the top of it. (Doing situps with a spare tire actually would push the fat farther out as your stomache muscles would increase) In addition, you likely already have significant muscle mass from carrying yourself around. It is a lot easier on my body to walk around at 155 that someone who is 300. Imagine the muscle I would build walking with an extra 145 pounds on my back all day! 4. Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast. Only keeping healthy food in the house is a GREAT idea. It is hard to gain weight if all you ever eat are apples! But Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast are fantastic if you are trying to lose weight. (or keep it off) Red meat is extremely fatty and also high in caleries. Chicken Breast are WAY healthier - and frankly I like the taste alot more. If you are used to cooking with ground beef in recipes, just cut up the chicken breast into really small pieces and pretend it is ground beef. You will never notice a difference. I have gone from making Enchilladas with ground beef - tons of cheese - and lots of sour cream on top; to making them with chicken, fat free cheese, and fat free sour cream - and NO ONE can tell the difference. I took a horrible meal and simply substitued better alternatives and got the same great taste. Do that with every meal and you will be surprised how great healthy food can taste. (Bad food is just convienent) 5. Lastly...it's all about habit. I had a rough past week. Was up late doing work on friday night. I wanted nothing more to sleep in on saturday. But at 8:00 when the alarm went off I hopped out of bed and ran 12 miles - when it is a habit, you don't think about it. You just do it. Set aside the same time EVERY WEEK to work out. If you give yourself ANY leeway - you will stretch it and stretch it until soon you have stopped working out again. Unless you are SOO sick you can't go to work - go to the gym. (btw, if anyone wants great fat free recipes for fat free chili and fat free enchilladas- p.m. me and I would be happy to share)
  9. Stevie Lottery! Are you serious? He is injured. He is old. He is a cancer. He was never that good to begin with. He is one of the most completely worthless players left in the league. I would rank Jalen Rose ahead of him at this point in his career. Jalen is at least funny during an interview.
  10. I think suggesting an AAA pitcher coming off of 3 arm surgeries as a front runner over a former all star who has almost pitched as well as the current all star closer is going a little too far. I am hopeful that Balfour can help us. But I can't imagine he is nearly as good as Turnbow. As for Al's assertion that Balfour has very little to no trade value - he is closer than we might think. Any team could have taken a chance on Balfour this past winter. Pitching well at AAA doesn't make you a future all star - plenty of players have reached that level and failed to move out. HOWEVER, if we see a future in Balfour - he might be used as trade bait in that we KEEP him, and trade the player who he will be replacing in our bullpen. (IE, if he doesn't have enough value - trade someone who does)
  11. Sign me up! It obviously can't really be used. As it taxes the pen extensively and provides no real backup should something happen. But I see nothing wrong with "planned" 3 - 4 inning outings for YoGa and Villy. I hate giving them only an inning here and there - often in junk time. If you have 7 starting pitchers - why not use them!
  12. I know some follow the minors religously - I myself dabble a little here and there. I usually read the chat wrap each week on ESPN from Jim Callis and he always talking about the various prospects within each farm system. The Brewer players are always ranked high - but never the "best" I remember reading that Braun was clearly rated behind Gordon and Zimmerman. Zimmerman has an OPS of .737 Gordon has an OPS of .680 Braun has an OPS of 1.054 I also remember YoGa always being in the second rung of pitchers coming though the minor league system. He was good - but not on a par with Hughes, Bailey, or Lincecum. Hughes ERA = 3.37 Lincecum ERA = 4.62 Bailey ERA = 6.99 Gallardo ERA = 3.37 We always heap praise on our scouts and Jack Z for finding all of these gems. But thoughout the minors they are still considered "lesser" players than other. So my question is - are our drafts that great? Are we smarter than everyone else? or... Do we just have a fantastic system in place where these kids are learning how to play baseball from coaches who are better teachers than the other teams have in their system? (Seems to me the coaches must be doing a bang up job!)
  13. That occured to me during last nights game. We have actually been pretty patient with Rickie. Graffy has been hitting WAY better for a long time now. Imagine the uproar from this board if Graffy has been starting and playing like Rickie. Everyone would have wondered why Rickie wasn't play... If the best player plays - then Weeks isn't even close right now.
  14. Pretty sure Harrang is available. Rumor has Hughes available as well - but with his status uncertain for this year, I can't imagine we would trade for a guy who might not be able to help us. The rest are likely untouchable. And I generally have thought of Cappy as pretty untouchable being our only left handed starter - but if the team thinks highly of Parra... I could see Cappy dealt this offseason.
  15. That is why this doesn't make sense to me. If this was true, I am sure they could have figured this out themselves and made the trade happen. Adding Lofton would have been a no brainer. (Say add Lofton for Zach Jackson)
  16. I have heard on the radio a few times that Applebee's is offering free tickets if you purchase certain entrees. I can't find any information about this however. Anyone know any details? Is this still on going? Any website explaining?
  17. Why do we assume he is going to be added to the bullpen? Everyone keeps talking about how he take a long time to warm up - therefore making him a pretty useless LOOGY. What is we were looking to trade Vargas and try Parra as a starter? With the way Vargas has pitched lately, he can't be much worse. And that certainly solves his "can't warm up quickly" problem. Worse case scenario he falters and we move Gallardo or Villy to the rotation?
  18. What about Hart in center and Abreu in right? Rumor has the Yankees looking to trade him AND eat a big portion of his salary. Link
  19. I'd love them. Count me in the drawing! (Thanks as usual for offering free tickets)
  20. Just curious - Would we have to pay Brady Clark? I mean, we are already paying his salary this year. If we wanted to sign him, would that be ANOTHER contract on top of the other one we are currently paying of?
  21. I am not so sure. High ankle sprains can take a LONG time to heal. I would guess he is out at least a month. Of course we don't know the severity of the ankle sprain - but they can be a real bother. Any chance Hart plays any centerfield?
  22. Pittsburgh is currently under a Tornado Watch...
  23. This sounds really stupid - but I have no idea. What does SGA mean when refering to a bobblehead?
  24. Why don't they just close the roof?
  25. I wish I had explained it that well. But that is exactly what I was looking for!
