  1. Just an update - as I have been slamming Pepsi 20 oz like crazy lately to get 10 caps. I got my form this past week at a Pick N Save up by the checkouts. They have to be postmarked by August 17th.
  2. Well I cursed that one perfectly!
  3. He has six hitless innings so far. Has a knuckleballer every thrown a no-no?
  4. Seems like a lot of people are taking this idea literally... OBVIOUSLY, the Met won't trade Wright and Reyes for Braun. But I wouldn't trade Braun for any less... I would take Braun over Wright straight up as Braun is younger and making less. Hence, they would need to add Reyes. Now the Mets would never trade their two cornerstone players. But if I was Melvin and someone called asking about Braun - what would you actually need to get in return to trade him. There aren't many teams that can even put together a package that would entice me.
  5. Actually, the Mets would have enough to make me trade Braun too. I would take Reyes and Wright in exchange for Braun. I believe they both have friendly long term contracts as well.
  6. So after watching Braun consistantly kill the heck out of the ball for a few months know - I would imagine we are all giddy about this kid. I was going to say we are giddy about his future, but heck...I am giddy with what he is doing NOW! If he never improves from this year, he would still be an all star year in and year out. So, just for fun, I was thinking about what it would take to actually trade away Braun. Many times teams say a player "is untouchable", but they don't really mean it - they just mean we are keeping him because we value him more than any trade that will be offered to us. For example, while A-Rod might be "untouchable" I am sure the Yankees would have traded him for Santana, Nathan, and Mauer. But Braun is as close to untouchable as I can remember. He is very young. He is under our control for 6(?) years - and is currently making the league minimum. (Yes, I am counting contracts as a factor) So with that said, what would a GM have to offer you to actually trade away this kid? (For example, A-Rod is better - but makes a ton and can opt out after next year. So there is no way I would trade A-Rod for Braun straight up) The best match I could come up with is the Phillies. I would trade Braun for two of the following...Hamels, Utley, Rollins. What would you need to be offered?
  7. I am sorry, I missed it. What happened on 7/25/07 with Matt Wise? Can someone please explain.
  8. Just curious - what would it take for Ned to get fired? I can't imagine any chance of him losing his job DURING the season. So we will assume he is safe there - but what does he need to do to be back next year? Keep in mind, I think Doug and Mark are both pretty patient guys and appreciate having a coach with a similar makeup. If we end up with a losing season is he fired? If we fail to make the playoffs is he fired? Can he possibly be fired if we DO make the playoffs? I have to think if we end up with a losing season, he needs to be fired. But anything else he is likely safe...*sigh*
  9. I have been trying to figure this out on my own so as to not look like an idiot... Why is he called 3T0?
  10. Boy oh boy am I glad we didn't sign him long term. Derrick has some bad games - but Coco has been very Turnbowesque lately. He was FANTASTIC to start the season...and has been bad since. The fact is - is a pretty average closer. Oh...I almost forgot... SCORE SOME MORE RUNS!
  11. Mike Maroth cures what ails opposing batters!
  12. Well that is the point of the Vanguard Target Retirement Funds... You choose what year you are expecting to retire - and they give you the appropriate amount of risk. (and many many mutual fund companies now offer these)
  13. Bank Roths are really just tax sheltered CDs. They are very safe - obviously, but since you are saving for RETIREMENT, they are likely way to safe. If you really wanted to go that way, you would be better off investing in a tax free municipal bond or something so you would have better access to your cash instead of using a retirement vehicle for such matters. My recommendation is to use Vanguard. They are the low cost providers of Mutual Funds. (And also a non-profit organization) They are very easy to work with - and the cheapest providers of Mutual Funds and Roth IRAs you can pretty much find. There are only two things you can truly control when investing - your cost and your taxes. The Roth IRA will control your taxes. Vanguard controls your costs. Since you are apparently(?) not the most experienced investor, I would recommend using their all in one retirement mutual funds. (Instead of you picking and choose what mutal funds to invest in - you can purchase Vanguard Retirement 2025. That fund has a good mix of aggressive stock, with international stocks and bonds as well to plan for someone who is looking to retire in 2025) I also HIGHLY recommend using their automatic investment feature. You set up with them to have a set amount withdrawn from your account on a regular basis. It makes investing and savings for retirement a no brainers. (And VERY effective) Sorry for answering this a few days past your original post, I must have missed it the first time. Feel free to ask any other questions. I would be happy to help.
  14. I can't help but think how excited everyone would be if they read that we had just traded Garrison, Thatcher, and Ben Hendrickson for Linebrink. I don't know how good Inman will be. But Doug should. Brewerfan.net thinks... Inman = Yovanni Gallardo Doug thinks... Inman = Hendrickson
  15. HOLY COW! I can't believe we traded Inman. I am shocked. I spent the first few minutes really upset. But I have calmed down. In Doug I trust. I have to remind myself that even though Inman was probably our #1 prospect - that doesn't mean he was any where near Braun or Gallardo. Most saw him topping out as a #3 starter. And he has struggled a lot in AA. He isn't a flame thrower. And he is short as well. He just doesn't project to the majors. My guess, the Brewers soured on him and the rest of that bunch. I think we basically just traded Inman for 2 comp picks. (And apparently we feel those two comp picks have a better chance of helping us than Inman)
  16. After this years squad was announced I remember telling a few friends "Anyone else think we are going to look back at 2007 and say 'J.J.Hardy was an All-Star?' with both amazement and puzzlement" Let's hope not. But he has done little to prove me wrong since.
  17. And Aquino is pitching in AAA because he was injured...
  18. I posted plenty in the vent thread - but never complained about Estrada's running. He certainly looked like someone who was hurting. He wasn't jogging so much as struggling to first base.l That said, Estrada is my least favorite Brewer. Assuming Miller is healthy - why wouldnt' be be catching a bunch to help Estrada heal? Anyone think this might be Ned bailing out one of his players?
  19. For the record - I am the one who ripped Jenkins throwing himself in front of a pitch to get hit. And I completely stand by it. I know he had two strikes. But that pitch was ball 2 - and a two and two count would have been ok. In an extra inning game, with two outs already and guys on second and third we don't really need a walk or HBP. We need to drive in one (maybe two) runs to win that game. Jenkins was a better matchup against the pitching and instead of battleing (after all, he is a battler isn't he?) and going after a decent pitch he swung at two crap pitches - fell behind and then bails out by jumping in front of a pitch. (For which he should have been laughed at by the ump and not awarded first base. If you looked, he tried to do the same things on the pitch before) Name me one good player in the league who would do that? Can you imagine Pujols intentionally getting hit by a pitch in taht situation? Like I said - no killer instinct right now. We are playing not to lose instead of trying to win. I think we need Cappy and Estrada to get into a shoving match - seems to have worked for the Cubs.
  20. Can we rename the Two MVP Candidates Thread to "Two MVPs and a Bunch of Bums"? Is anyone other than Prince and Braun batting even half way decent right now?
  21. Where is the killer instinct? Jenkins actually THREW himself in front of a fastball so he didn't have to face a RHP! When your role is to hit RHP, you don't intentionally get hit to get to the guy behind you who struggles against RHP. That to me, just screams that even Jenkins knows he has lost a step in his old age.
  22. I thought I had found it. I unclicked "Hide arrow while typing" thinking that would solve my problem It hasn't. I should have like a text cursur or something while typing...instead I get nothing on my screen. THe arrow disapprears - and no other cursur shows up. Any help is appreciated.
  23. My mouse "arrow" disappears anytime it is inside of a text box on a webpage. So as I am typing this, if I scroll the mouse into the text box - the arrow vanishes. I have to scroll around a little to find out where it went and then try to avoid the text boxes. I HOPE this is just a stupid setting I have wrong. (I have an Acer laptop running Vista Basic) ANyone have any ideas?
  24. You have to remember that when Nathan is a free agent and signs with a new team - the team that loses him will get two comp picks at the end of round one in the MLB draft. If you offered me Mench, Jackson, and Sarfate or two first round draft picks - I would take the picks every day of the week. In other words - Minnesota would be much better of just letting him walk and getting "nothing" in return. We would have to add way more to the package than that.
  25. Think they would trade him now for a lower prospect? (Zach Jackson) I mean, we really only wanted him for september and next year right? I would imagine they don't want to sell low, but if this reduces his price at all - I would still be interested.
