  1. I will indulge the notion that Yankees would take a call from Melvin on ARod. If I am the Yankees GM the discussion starts with Sheets and Cappy. I need young pitchers. I need young major league pitchers. I don't want prospects or OFers. I have tons of overpaid OFs. Hall would be nice and he goes to 3B. I want ; Sheets Hall Capellaen Rogers (upside guy) Just an awful trade for Brewers...
  2. I would prefer Gary Matthews Jr. over Soriano because he is top flight defender. I just think the notion that the OF can be the dumping ground for mediorcrity for the Milwaukee franchise needs to end. You can prove that this guys OPS isn't better then Mench or that guys isn't better then Gross, but we all watch baseball games here. We all can see with our eyes that our OFs for the past few seasons have been subpar and mediocre. Hart is a start and moving Hall out there is adding another piece but the centerpiece would be a major league CFer. Something we haven't had in Milwaukee for a long time.
  3. Not to be accused of being welling to trade anyone to get Crawford, I think how OPS is being used to argue against getting him is interesting. OPS is nice stat. Even in some cases actually tells you something about a players worth. However I propose that Crawford's value may not be entirely measured by his OPS. First he is an incredible athlete. Who can makes plays that 98-99% of OF in baseball cannot even think of making. What is the value of a CF or LF he catches balls that most OF cannot and cuts off balls that usually make their way to walls and holds hitters to singles. Also, speed makes things happen (I wonder what Jackie Robinson's OPS was?) it leads to cheap runs and big innings as it distorts defenses and cause IF to make errors on routine plays. I love stats but how did the teams with the OPS kings in the AL and NL do this year?
  4. Why would the Yanks trade ARod for Bill Hall. I love Billy but seriously.
  5. It is good to see Parra and Mike Jones throwing from a mound again. I know it too soon to get excited. However, the bad luck the Brewers have had with young arms has to change. If you get Parra and Jones healthy and pitching like top-shelf prospects all of the sudden we will have pitching depth in our minor league system.
  6. In the past Baseball America has graded drafts a few days afterwards. Also provide a few neat insights and articles. This year nothing. I wonder if this is the impact of the losses to PG site.
  7. I know the GM is Doug Melvin. Some of us have jobs that force us to occassionally make errors on a baseball fan board. This ranks right behind the lawn and deciding between Playboy or Penthouse. My point remains the same the guys making decisions in the fornt office know more then guys reading these boards and regugitating page after page of Moneyball. I read Moneyball to. I get it. I just don't agree with every tenet in it.
  8. I bet the Brewers had two guys at this spot. They called Mitchell before the draft and Brewer. Mitchell was a no go and Brewer indicated to them that he wanted to play baseball. I think Minnesota picked Mitchell in the later rounds, I think he really wants to play football at LSU. I like this pick and Jeffress pick very much. There are 4 or 5 that I think are interesting if we can get them signed. I know it is "DOUG MELVIN", not Bob. I am old.
  9. Bob Melvin sets the tone and direction of franchise on player personnel matters. I am sure he delegates a great deal of the day operation of the scouting and minor league operations to Jack Z and Ash, but Melvin is the boss and decisions are not made without his input.
  10. The Brewers are one franchise. A college pitcher has little eroom for improvement. If you are picking a Vreland or one of thye arms in the top 10 it makes sense, but once you are picking 12 or 16th you are not going to get a Miller. At that point you have to compare the potential of a HS versus a 22 year old who has pitched for 2 or 3 years in college, How much better is Joba Chamberlein going to get? Don't you think Bob Melvin has weighed these questions in his head?
  11. I don't undestasnd why you would want a bunch of 23 year old pitchers on the AA and A ball roster. Why do you like older college pitchers. This money ball crap is starting to get tired. The Atlanta Braves have done pretty well drafting HS pitchers and players. Moneyball and that stats guy in Boston have turned every geek with a calculator and spare time into a baseball scout.
  12. The baseball draft isn't like the football draft. If you start drafting that way (see the 1980s and 1990s Brewers of Sal Bando) you will torch your farm system in short order. The problem is Melvin took over a mess and pitching is the hardest pieces to find. In my opinion the next 4 or 5 drafts need to be dedicated to filling the system with arms with no concern about them helping in 2006 or 2007.
  13. 1. Miller 2. Drew Stubbs 3. Hank Conger The Brewers have no chance at Miller but Stubbs appears to be dropping. From what I have seen of him on FSN televised Longhorn games and the scouting reports, If he can hit 0.270 in the majors he will be an impact player because of his glove, speed and power. In 2 years he could be in the majors. In fact he could play CF defensively right now for the Brewers. 1B - Fielder 2B - Weeks SS- Hardy 3B- Braun LF- Hart CF- Stubbs RF- Cruz
