  1. "I am extremely excited about LaPorta, Jeffress, Brewer, Gindle and LuCroy as well. I also believe that Alicedes will be a starting second basemen in this league for a long time. Gamel is, at best, a poor outfielder and an awful thrid basemen. He seems like an Oakland kind of guy, where he could DH. He sure can hit though. Cain, Gillespie, Ford, and Fermaint all have high ceilings, and you have to think at least one of them will reach it. My favorite guy might be Brewer though. He just gushes with talent, and he could easily supplant J.J. if Hardy doesn't progress from where he is at. We have a ton of quality hitters coming our way." In response to the quote above, I am wondering what your judgement of Gamel being a "poor outfielder at best" is based upon. Have you EVER seen him play an outfield position or are you just assuming? Please explain.
  2. you and me both kev - i can stop pacing around the house now. the audio isnt working here tonight - and we just kept waiting for the box to update - and then i saw he got a hit and was relieved then saw it was a hr and started screaming! we really thank everyone for the congratulations and well wishes!!!
  3. i cant find the banner....am i an idiot or is it gone?
  4. I looked up some stuff on hitting streaks. It is kind of interesting. You all might already know this but here goes: There have been 46 occurrences in Major League Baseball where a player had a hitting streak of at least 30 games. Record Streaks: Major League Rank Player Team Games Year(s) 1 Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees 56 1941 Minor League Rank Player League Games Year(s) 1 Joe Wilhoit Western League 69 1919 The longest in the Florida State League: Casey Blake Florida State League 31 1998 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitting_streak
  5. glad Darren is hanging in there. going to melbourne tomorrow. hopefully they wont get rained out!
  6. usually throwing. in a rush. if the ball takes a bad hop and he fields it - then he is in a rush to make the throw to get the out. his bat is what he was drafted for. the comments about the wooden glove and fishing net didnt make me laugh, at all, let alone out loud. sor.
  7. Congrats to Darren! He's had an awesome season. Hope it continues for him!
  8. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2007/06/04/VVDToWlX.jpg this was taken in Daytona - our family is in the background - its blurry - but its us!!! Edit: to display Mat Gamel photo
  9. he is quick enough for a corner outfield position.
  10. Got to see Brevard in Daytona tonight. They got to play 9 innings despite some much needed showers. Barba had a great night at the plate....actually - most of the team did. I guess Lum's visit last week paid off!
  11. Thanks! Enjoyed it!!! Here's hoping that they can all hang on to their leads...and that Nashville can get back on top too.
  12. Really enjoyed reading that. Thanks!
  13. As far as whether or not I've seen the games: I'm allowed to say that his bat has potential based on game reports, but the minute I question his defensive ability, my credibility is suspect. It's got to be a two-way street. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and are allowed to say whatever you want. I was not questioning your credibility and please accept my apologies if it came across that way. My question was simply that, a question wondering if your opinions were based on personal observations or the observations and reports of others. I have been fortunate enough to see several games this season and sometimes the balls take really bad hops, and sometimes he dives for balls that would have otherwise been a hit, but if the ball touches the glove it is an error whether it is really playable or not. Sometimes the first baseman pulls his foot off of the bag in an attempt not get hit by the runner, and that gets charged as an errant throw. This all has also been confirmed by his scout, who we speak to on a regular basis, and who also gets to see several games, as he is based out of Florida as well. Don't get me wrong - he has had some errors, but sometimes they don't always look quite like what they sound like on the radio. I meant no offense, I was just trying to say that sometimes the broadcast isnt a completely clear picture of what happened.
  14. We get to see a lot this year because he is so close to home (Jax, FL). Its really nice!
  15. Im not trying to be rude or anything but I was just wondering if any of you have actually been to watch a Manatees game (or games) or are your comments based solely on the audio and game reports, as sometimes the audio does not paint a very accurate picture of what is really going on. Certainly not all, but more than a few of Mat's errors can be chalked up to very questionable (i.e. bad) calls.
  16. in regards to the Hooter's Hotline rebroadcast, this is what I found out: Thanks for the inquiry about the Hooters Hot Line show. To my knowledge the broadcast will be archived on www.manateesbaseball.com in the coming days. On the Monday morning Manatee Insanity, exerpts were played. WMEL will not be rebroadcasting the show as mentioned on Brewerfan.net Not sure why that was placed on there, but from what I have been told the show will be available on the Manatees website.
  17. I distincly remember the Power hating Hickory last year too.....and the fued continues............. Glad they won though!
  18. Heard D. Ford is supposed to be back this Fri. against Delmarva.
  19. Why dont you post a picture of yourself and let everyone make a judgement as to how homely you are or are not?
  20. Thanks! Thats a really nice thing to say. My brother is one of those "homely" looking guys. Actually, they all are pretty decent looking guys in real life. But really - who cares what they look like if they play well. I can check with some scouts but I dont think that having good looks is considered one of the top tools to make it to the majors. Maybe I can get some pictures tomorrow in Daytona that are more to your liking. Happy Easter.
  21. article at florida.com on last night's Brevard County game. www.floridatoday.com/apps...002/SPORTS
  22. Mat has been at 3rd base, not dh-ing hardly ever, especially since Yost moved up and Festa has been at 1st. As far as his bat, he says that he is seeing the ball really well lately, and can pick his pitches so much better. Hopefully it will continue.

  24. I have been unable to get the Power broadcast (internet) for about the last week or so. It has always worked in the past. I was wondering if anyone else was having similar problems, or had any suggestions. We have been listening via the opposing teams' broadcast, but it is always nicer to listen to Andy.
