  1. No, there is no 'intentional bunting in T-ball. Put those little nubbers sometimes turn into 'homers'.
  2. These are the road Brewers we know and love. Two bunts doesn't usually equal 1st and third and 0 out anywhere else in the majors. Or AAA. Or AA. Or A. Or Legion, HS, Pony, Babe Ruth, Little League or T-Ball. OK, maybe T-Ball.
  3. It was a poor tactical decision, regardless of result. The decision can be defended philosophically as a larger point in the warped world of baseball's unwritten rules, but as with any academic exercise, as you continue to add facts and context the defensibility of the decision changes as it morphs from a question in a vacuum to a real-world situation.
  4. I didn't care if they hit somebody or not, but they sure shouldn't have hit Tejada in that spot, if that's what they did. Maybe it was just a coinincidence. Maybe they didn't hit Braun intentionally and maybe McClung just lost his a bit inside. I tend to think that Yost had him hit, because Yost probably thought that it was best handled right way and that both teams could put the situation behind them. Not a bad overall philosophy, but I think he kind of lost his focus on the immediate situation which probably should have overriden that philosophy.
  5. At this point I'm hoping teh Brewers find a way to win 3-2, but with 20 strikeouts.
  6. Well, Yost did have a guy hit at the worst possible time. Cooper had a guy hit when they wanted to put him on first anyway, knowing that 99.5% of the time Fielder was coming to the plate anyway. SO, it can be OK to want retaliation, but criticize the guy in charge for not understanding how and when to do it to minimize the damage to his own club.
  7. I had about as good a chance in that AB, sitting on my couch, as Billy did
  8. The Astros are even smarter about hitting batters than the Brewers are.
  9. As long as Berkman doens't hurt us, I'm OK with this.
  10. Terrible AB there. Insult to injury.
  11. No doubt in my mind what happened there.
  12. You don't have to be that good to win if the other team is just bad. Torres could single-handedly negate lots of other people's screwups over the past 30 minutes. But it ain't over yet.
  13. Trying to get through to my bookie for a late prop bet, but all lines seem to be busy.
  14. Nice job making him make the throw, Prince.
  15. In case some haven't been paying attention, the issue of defensive replacments has been relevant before. Recently, even. Players must perform, but if a manager can get create a meaningful increase in the probablility of a defensive play being made at a key defenisve positioin by making a switch late in a game (especially after the player being switched out has just batted in the prior half inning), I think it's a fiar point of criticism. Usually not reason alone to say a manager cost the game, but over 162 all those little things add up.
  16. I think I have seen this movie before, but i figured the error would wait for Torres in teh 9th.
  17. CV never should have left the pen last season. He seems to be a natural out there.
  18. I just didn't understand the timing of pulling Bush. If Ned really beleives that it's going to be a long game with lots of chances to score runs (as his 1st inning decision to hit Bush tends to imply), why does he pull Bush in a situation that will probably, at best, only score 1 run? They had a donkey pitcher on the ropes in the first. That was the time to strike. You deal with the pitching ramifications afterward depending on the results. If you keep Bush in the game in the 2nd so as not to burn up your pen, with the results of this particular game as a subordinate consideration to that goal, I don't konw what the extra 9 outs Bush recorded really did in terms of meeting that goal, especially given that, at the time the 1st inning decision was made, there was no guarantee that Bush would even make it out of the second inning. Coors Field chews up pens sometimes, despite your best efforts to manage the situation. If that is the case, you should play for the win in a given game first, within reason, especially if the game is still early and you have a great chance to immediately get back in the thing. The alternative is to probably chew up your pen and give yourself even less of a shot at victory than you would otherwise have had.
  19. "Sensing a chance to score a run"? There was a better chance to score even more runs in the first. You take him out now that he's settled down?
  20. Page 6. Inning 2. This is just a train wreck. I'm a terrible manager, but I would ahve hit for Bush there. Nice to see he's back to business as usual on the mound.
  21. This game tonight could be really damaging to my emotional well-being. Had to go in to work way too early this AM, and I was still steaming about last night on the drive. Bush has been just great lately, so my pessimistic side is expecting this will be a night where he gets lit up flipping a few of those frisbees up there. It may be one of those Coors Field type games tonight which the Brewers never seem to do so well in. And now I see CC in teh leadoff spot after Weeks has been doing much better lately (and on the heels of a day off on Thurs) Added bonus with the Cubs going down this afternoon means all the stars are aligning for a potentially infuriating evening. I hope I am so wrong.
  22. For some reason, I feel compelled to watch the Cubs/Dodgers, If this turns into the night where 5.5 GB turns into 7.5 GB, I think I'll be heading to Home Depot tomorrow as I'll have a drywall repair project to work on prior to tomorrow night's game.
  23. The thing that bugs me about Yost tonight is the seeming inconsistency in his general philosophy. He's shown openness to change his ideas and end experiments (e.g., going back to the traditional P in teh 9 spot) and he's decided he's going to ride the hot hand a bit more (3B platoon, starting Kapler tonight). So tonight, he sort of goes back to the formula in handling the pen, then freezes up when the plan goes awry. Villy is the definition of hot hand in terms of pitching lately. Yes, the players failed to execute from the time Kendall tripled forward. But Yost failed tonight, too. That is not a complete assigment of blame, but Yost must accept his portion of the responsibility here.
