I have not seen the movie, but need to know the (rough) time frame it covers. 1850s? 1900s?

Mid to late 1600's.

Probably closer to 1720's to 1750's, given the inclusion of the British Navy (Britain didn't exist until the 1700s), and some of the weaponry which dates from the mid 1700s or so.
