Gagne and Riske clear waivers

This isn't much of a shocker. Who wants to pay Gagne 2 million if you look at his full season(yes, i know how he has been since coming off the DL)? Riske is still a big contract and no shock there either.

Plus, the Brewers may want to keep Riske. I assume teams may have thought that claiming him was pointless because the Brewers would just pull him back. OTOH, if that isn't what they thought, I guess Doug made a mistake with that contract.

Everyone is put on waivers at this point in the season, with the probable exception of Braun.

Not being claimed on waivers at this time of year has nothing to do with how good someone is. Every team knows any player with any value at all would be pulled back if claimed so they don't bother trying.

The only players not put on waivers are the ones with no trade clauses, it helps disguise who you want to deal.
