In the midst of the ARod saga, I noticed that two more pitchers are off the market.

Wolf gets 5 million guarenteed & another 2 M in incentuves. I wonder if his knocks Looper's price down enough for the Crew to have a shot at him.

I think nobody left except Manny & Dunn will get multi-yr deals. Maybe the O's would offer Looper that much, but it appears Looper will get less than Garland or Wolf.

Good news on the Looper front is that the Rockies apparently aren't interesting anymore. So that's one less team to compete with. Rosenthal says Orioles have "serious interest," but otherwise it doesn't look like too many other teams are pursuing him. (And you can probably count out the Dodgers, with this Wolf signing.)

Remember when Wolf was asking for a multi year deal worth over 40 million? My have those days passed.

Reportedly, the Astros actually offered that deal to him, and took it back before/around Thanksgiving. Wolf should have snatched that deal up, but of course he and his agent thought they could do better. Huge mistake.

In other news, the Brewers signed Jeff Suppan for two years at $12.5 mil/year + use of suite at home games. Plus we get an option at year 5 for $12.75 mil!!!

 

Wow have times changed. I only bring it up because the two are fairly similar pitchers. Imagine that we could basically get Wolf for two years at what we're paying Soup per year. Every team has an agreement like that, but it just shows how crazy things are.
