Online Banking Questions

So I had the thrill this evening of logging on to an account that I have access to online this evening and seeing "you last logged on this morning at 11:47 am EST." Considering that I didn't, I'm a little worried. Is stuff like that accurate enough to get worked up about? Fortunately, I only have a credit card with the site in question, and it doesn't appear that any of my personal info (mailing address, etc) has been changed, and it doesn't seem like and sensitive info is available other than the account number (which is useless without the EXP and such). Any recommended courses of action? Obviously, I've already changed the password and don't use the same password for any other site.

I think if that happened to me where I have a credit card, my first step would be to contact that institution and politely ask "what the heck?" If nothing else, that records your concern over the matter (in case something fishy did/does in fact happen). If the institution's response is "what's the big deal?" or the like, I would think twice about retaining them as my credit card supplier.

 

Oddball thought that just occurred to me: was it 47 past the hour when you did log in today? Could a time zone difference account for the weirdness? I realize probably not, but I did call it an oddball thought.

No, unfortunately it was like 20 after the hour.

 

I did call tonight, and they pretty much said they can either close and re-issue the cards or I can continue on and just keep an eye on things.

Definitely call them so it's documented in their system. That would hopefully help you get things sorted out quicker if it all goes bonkers. Also, they may be able to tell you if that may indicate a real hacking of your account and be able to lock it up if need be before someone goes wild with your card number.

Ok, developments:

 

I discovered yesterday while attempting to monitoring my account from a different computer that in order to log in to your account from any new computer requires them to send you a one-use PIN direct to your e-mail or phone. Now, I'd imagine that by the time someone had to go through all of this after hacking my password while finding a way to intercept the pin e-mail or text without it showing up on my blackberry would cause anyone to move on to someone else rather than waste the time. Also, I obviously changed the password as well as the user name, and the account this morning is saying that someone logged in at 2:05 am CST. Since I'm not using easy something like 'Peavey1' as my password, I'm going to go with the assumption that this is some sort of glitch on my bank's end.

 

Does that seem like a logical conclusion for tech people out there?

Sounds like it's borked on their end.

 

They are probably pulling the time, not from their own site, but from something cached on your machine that another website or simply IE or Firefox is using.

If there's an error with the time sync on their server (which isn't terribly common, but it happens), it can drift pretty quickly, and the software used to keep time will just stop trying if it is too far off. If you log out and log back in right away, does it show the correct time?

Happened again today, with me supposedly logging in while I was at work this afternoon.
