  1. I'm only surprised when people don't know P-Funk, and have wasted their time on inferior music.
  2. My frustration with this trade made me come here to post for the first time in eons. The fact that I hate it probably means that time will prove it to be a huge win for the Brewers.
  3. Dude! Where have you been??? When they brought Betancourt back as a 1B, I became convinced that the team lacked any sense of direction and was making moves specifically aimed at driving me away. I cancelled my mlb.tv account after the 2013 season and haven't renewed. Now, the wound is mostly healed, but we had a kid last year, so my free time evaporated. I do lurk here quite a bit any time something significant goes down.
  4. That's what Ranger fans, well, Dallas area sports fans in general, like to do. They swear they are the best sports fans in America, but nobody will jump on one of their players, or former players faster than the fans down here. When Josh Hamilton went to the Angels, some of the stuff I read online was shocking. When Kinsler left Texas, and went to the Tigers, again, some of the "fans" were ripping him a new one. But Prince has gotten some of the worst. It cracked me up and made me angry at the same time when they claimed he was lazy. A few actually said that he took days off because he was too fat. How many 160 game seasons did he have in a row? My God, he's missed 13 games in 8 years. They're awful down here. Dallas area sports fans are the very definition of fair weather fans. When Prince starts hitting home runs, though, they'll love him. I live in Ft. Worth and can confirm that this is 100% accurate and free of hyperbole. I moved here in 2003 and you'd have never guessed they had an MLB team, though multiple idiots were willing to argue with me that Quincy Carter was better than Brett Favre. Josh Hamilton was the greatest, purest human to have ever lived until he signed with LA, when he became a washed-up dragon-chasing heroin junkie and they all claimed to have hated him all along and were completely elated that he was finally gone.
  5. $2K? You need showboating drunk cousin or uncle that'll do it for a case of Old Milwaukee.
  6. The worst part of replay is that managers can just stall while the bench coach calls someone to determine if they should challenge or not. This is already getting old. Managers slowly make their way to the ump, then just stand there looking back at one of the coaches while waiting for a signal. Hopefully, they find a way to minimize it. Maybe something along the lines of starting a stopwatch from the point he leaves the dugout or only allowing managers to approach an ump twice in a game before he is charged with his challenge for approaching a third time.
  7. Awesome. This is the silver lining of not being in Japan during baseball season this year: I know I get to skip him completely. Unfortunately, none of the baseball fans I know in Japan are Buffaloes fans, so I have nobody to tease. I guess he's got acceptable power by their standards/with their juiced baseballs, but I really can't see his lazy play and general lack of skill being appreciated there.
  8. Brian McCann can cross Holliday's name off of the "crosses home without obstruction" list.
  9. Peralta was on the top-shelf stuff and Braun was using crap some redneck made in a coffee can. It's the difference between champagne and bath salts. Anyone else find it funny the team that polices every aspect of how other teams act are the ones who say they aren't the morality police? Being mawkish in an attempt to fend off the mawkish nonsense of other people who are imitating your own mawkishness? Even the most pathetic political pundits struggle to do that with a straight face.
  10. The good news? He can't have that crappy beard any more.
  11. If this report from mlbtraderumors is correct, and Betancourt really has 5 teams interested in his services, we live in a bizarre, messed-up world. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/yuniesky_betancourt/ ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=868548#p868548 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=29536
  12. it was discussed sorta in the game thread up top, but its not the first time McCann has been an instigator and a bully. Which is pretty hilarious, as that butterball would stand no chance against Gomez, so maybe the umps were being lenient because they thought his actions were cute. Kinda like when your friend's obese cat starts hissing at you for walking through "his" kitchen in order to retrieve a beer.
  13. Seriously though, that Yuni is on the team and Roenicke continues to use him is just baffling. And it brings into serious doubt whether I'll renew my tickets. My mlb.tv subscription is done-for. I just can't support a team that points a pistol at their own foot and pulls the trigger. I stuck with these guys through absolute crap years, and I dealt with it because I saw it all as a necessary part of a plan that I was on board with. Injuries, suspensions, and slumps suck, but they'll happen. I'll never turn my back on a team simply because of bad luck, but I can't be excited about a team that's just foolish. When your firstbasemen all go down, and you pass over mediocre 1Bs because you think two sub-.700 OPS shortstops will solve the problem, you've lost it.
  14. Then again, the doctor's background is far from traditional. An acupuncture practitioner is less of a "doctor" than a PhD in Chinese Literature (as they don't have a doctorate or medical training). If your doctor advises something and you're unsure, the solution is a second opinion from another doctor.
  15. Wladimir Balentien hit HRs 56 and 57 to break the most protected record in baseball. There's talk about this being the result of Japanese baseball becoming more foreigner-friendly, but I think it was just too much of a foregone conclusion for anyone to try to prevent it, as Balentien still has 17 games to play. I got to see him play once this year, but he went 0 for 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH69ILQxphI
  16. There's only 1 solution: send Craig Counsell to Latin America and don't allow him to return until he learns Spanish. This way, we have the Spanish speaking mentor but don't blow a roster spot on him. Again, if they really need to employ a great guy who speaks Spanish, there are tons of guys who fit the bill that can be had for a $50,000 salary (Director of Being Friendly) and no roster spot.
  17. This is what I was going to post. The Davis to Gennett relay would allow David Ortiz to score from first base. Of course the way around this problem is to have Aramis Ramirez trip baserunners as they round third base. Don't worry, when we have a real 1B again next year, Yuni will move to become the starting 2B.
  18. I wouldn't take him for free right now. He's paid too much, sucks more than our current options, and would block an opportunity to evaluate a Nelson or Hellweg, I'd be totally cool with a minor league deal or cheap MLB deal for next year, though. Our pen will likely need a few additions after Axford and Gonzalez walk and we suffer inevitable injuries.
  19. So, I'm getting the impression that we are to simultaneously believe that: 1) MLB had a giant mountain of evidence against Braun, which kept leaking. 2) Braun is completely full of crap in his statement and is nowhere near telling the whole story. I can't see how both of these can be true. Either MLB had a very flimsy case against Braun and he's able to lie, or there was a bunch of evidence and he can't lie because the truth will inevitably leak. Given that everyone except A-Rod went down without a fight, the latter seems far more believable than the former at this point.
  20. But, but, but he OWES us! More, now, with speech, crying, trembling, and Roy Firestone. We need to see his bottom lip quiver. He needs to grovel, and also soil himself. He needs to forfeit all Brewers wins since 2007, reset his career stats to 0, and return all of his lifetime earnings; save for the money he uses to pay for a parade for Matt Kemp and the 2011 Diamondbacks. The only option for Braun is to go to the gates of Bud Selig's house and ask for permission to commit seppuku with a broken baseball bat in Selig's garden while Buster Olney watches. That's what a real man of honor would do, and exactly what every other professional athlete who ever used steroids did. Why should Braun get away with doing less?
  21. I still struggle to understand how even a bad 3B can be this tremendously bad as a 1B. Braun may have been the worst 3B I've ever watched, but I'd still expect him to not be a wreck at first.
  22. the way he pushed blame on the collector (ignoring the current reports that appear to be false) The collector needs to stop being viewed as a Ryan Braun victim. Had that dude done his job correctly, Braun would've been suspended in 2012 and nobody would know the collector's name. Had the sports media not plopped him in the public eye, nobody would know the collector's name. Braun never named the collector, he referred to him as "the collector" and "he". Braun's obviously done plenty of shady stuff, but I don't see evidence that he committed any awful deeds toward the collector.
