When It Was a Game III

A while back, someone did a quick survey asking us to name who we thought were the best players. Those of us who saw Sandy Koufax pitch all had him #1. There were many questions as to why, from those who only had stats to look at.

 

HBO is running When It Was a Game III, and it is a fabulous show. It hi-lites Aaron, Mays, Koufax, Drysdale, F. Robinson, Marichal, Clemente, et al. It is just a fabulous show of the last decade of pure baseball, before free agency, expansion and cookie cutter stadiums kicked in. It will be replayed twice next Monday morning, at 6 and 9 am. Set your TiVO, it is worth it, big time.

I saw all three of those shows (or are there 4?) back in the day when they premiered on HBO some 10-15 years ago (maybe longer?) You are correct. They are awesome! I loved the color film of some of these guys that I had never seen before in color. I believe alot of the footage was home movies, but I don't remember.

Yep, it's all home movie footage.

 

They were running the first one last week, now 3 is on this week. The most amazing thing I remember from the episode is Costas is talking about a 16 inning game he went to when both 2 pitchers actually pitched all 16 innings. I forgot who the pitchers were, but I remember one was pretty old.
