Should Jeff Bianchi be given a chance? Latest -- He Will! Bianchi to be added to 40-man, called up

I'd just release K-Rod. Mclendon's not getting opportunities to pitch because Roenicke has this fantasy that if he keeps running K-Rod out there, suddenly he's going to revert to last year's form. Melvin needs to put his foot down and take away that option. K-Rod's proven there's no lead big enough he can't surrender. Of course that's true for most of the pen, but some of those guys might actually return next year. Livan has no future here either so, why is he taking up a roster spot? Might as well have Claudio Vargas up here than Livan.

John, this is so right. K-Rod is done after 2013. So why even pretend he's part of our future? Why not let a guy like McClendon get a chance to show what he can do with regular playing time?

K-Rod's stuff is better this year than last. But his command has been awful. Like many relievers, he'll likely be very successful for years to come. How many lives did closers like Todd Jones, Troy Percival, Jose Valverde, and Brad Lidge, etc have? K-Rod is basically having his first bad year. He'll bounce back next year and begin his second life as a strong reliever.

I agree with this. His career is far from over. He's only 30, and he still has great stuff. He's not at the age where he would've really lost anything. He'll probably bounce back. It's not like he's old, at the end of his career, and just hit the wall. It'll be interesting to see the kind of interest he receives on the free agent market though after the season he's had. Some team could end up getting a steal if he returns to form quickly.

Here is hoping that while reinstating Rogers to the 25-man for his start, we let Bianchi and Segura manage SS for the rest of the season. There really isn't any reason to keep Ransom around anymore...

edit:

Blast! It already happened. Bianchi was optioned.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
