Box: DSL Rangers #1 Squad 8, DSL Brewers 1

After winning the first two games of the season vs. a Cubs team, the shared DSL'ers drop two by an 18-1 combined score to Texas' titans.

Pro mound debut:

17-year-old Dominican RHP Edinson Mejia started and only allowed one run over three innings. He did walk four and hit a batter, however.

Here's RF Isaac Curbata's "arm day":

Plus his first two pro hits!

Box: DSL Rangers #2 Squad 14, DSL Brewers 1

Brewers drop both ends of the home-and-home by a combined 25-7 score. Brewer pitchers allowed 11 hits (five for extra bases), walked ten, and hit four batters.

Pro debut for 18-year-old Mexican starting RHP Oscar Castaneda (no word if related to the Timber Rattlers' Victor) - 2 IP, normally you don't want to see this box score notation:

Castaneda pitched to 5 batters in the 3rd.

Catcher Farlyn Manon finished up on the hill, not as successfully as Hernan Perez.

First professional hit for catcher Jhonnys Cabrera came on his 17th birthday, nice!

Biloxi Press Notes:

RHP Nate Griep was named the Southern League BC® Relief Pitcher of the Month for May on Wednesday. Griep went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11 appearances in the month, allowing just two hits and two walks over 12.2 innings while notching a league-leading seven saves.

OF Trent Grisham was also named the Brewers Minor League Player of the Month for May. This comes after Grisham was named the Southern League Player of the Week on Monday and RHP Alec Bettinger took home Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Nice to see Gabriel Garcia playing much better this year. I had a lot of hope for him at 1b/3b after his 2016-17 seasons in Rookie ball, but last year was a struggle in Appleton. He's always shown good OBP skills, and it sure would be nice to see him get that avg around .250 (would mean .400 obp)

Good outing from Rasmussen.

Second game in a row with 75 pitches. More than holding his own in AA, if he keeps this up, he’s in AAA sometime in the near future.

As it turns out, we've updated this September 2018 post from the Transaction Thread:

Milwaukee Brewers signed free agent RHP Edinson Gonzalez to a minor league contract.

17 Year Old Pitcher from the DR. 6-1, 163.

Name change adjustment, player is now Mejia, not Gonzalez.

San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes

From within the notes above, this is pre-game:

"One of the Best: Tonight's starter for San Antonio, Aaron Wilkerson, doesn't have enough innings pitched to qualify for the PCL leaderboard for the season but has still been one of the league's best pitchers. Of the 62 pitchers in the PCL who have made at least seven starts, Wilkerson's 0.46 ERA is the lowest and his 0.74 WHIP is the second lowest behind only New Orleans' Zac Gallen who boasts a 0.69 WHIP. Since he returned to the ball club from Milwaukee on May 7 he leads the PCL in ERA (0.32), WHIP (0.79), opponent batting average (.135), opponent slugging (.208), and opponent OPS (.425)."

More goodness in this one!

***

Box: San Antonio 9, Salt Lake City 0

Wilkerson lowers his ERA to 0.40 although his WHIP jumped all the way to 0.78, what a bum, lost his no-hit bid in the 5th. :laughing

"Missions post their AAA-leading 10th shutout, draw a season-high 10 walks, and move a season high 16 games over .500"

***

You could say that David Stearns has done a better job building the 2019 Missions roster than the 2019 Brewers. This bullpen, via good fortune that other MLB teams passed on so many DFA's, is crazy good with a mixed level of experience. The David Freitas waiver claim, the fact Tyler Saladino had an option left (another HR in this game), Cory Spangenberg, another that got through waivers. Awesome depth.

Oh yeah, as you'll see in the box score, "The Man Can Hit".

No formal game summary yet, we'll link to it later today.
