Matt Beaty

Who?

Well hes a 3b/1b util for the Dodgers. Age 28. Bats LH. Gotta hang with me for a moment.

Statcast had him with the 38th hardest exit velo in 2019 for all of MLB. He's pre-arb and in Dodgers pecking order he's second fiddle with younger upside knocking at the ML doorsteps.

He looks the type stat-wise as a late bloomer/gamer. Gets better as more experience gained. Under 20% Ks. Give him a Starting chance and see if he sticks with another 5years team control. Seems adequate as a defender for both 3b/1b. That high exit velo could result in a big breakout. Call this a Jesus Aguilar/Travis Shaw attempt at finding. Wouldn't expect Beaty to require a big prospect. Give LA a lotto type, maybe a catcher? Considering the lack of much corner inf trade or FA options, this is a lightning in a bottle attempt.

I'm a fan of Beaty. He had a good 2019, but is an older player at this point. He appears to be a strict platoon player but could match up well with Urias at 3b. He's cost effective and can be controlled into his 30s. Maybe Abreu or Bello for him?

Sadly I can't find his platoon splits in the minors prior to 2019 to be sure of a platoon need. If so he's useful to us and should be worth less return on a trade. He has 2 options. Maybe mix him in with Asdrubal Cabrera and you're spreading 1b/3b among Cabrera, Beaty, Urias, and Vogelbach. Giving Urias SS or 2b games mixed in as well.
