The Brewers enter the final season series game with the Cubs holding a 15-3 advantage and having won 11 straight. According to McCalvy the only other time in franchise history the Brewers have won 15 games against a division opponent in a season was 2019 when they went 15-4 against the Pirates.

Cubs starter Adrian Sampson has appeared in 7 games for the Cubs over the past month, and started 3 of those. Sampson has gone 5.0 IP in his last two starts, throwing 70 and 72 pitches in those outings. Over his 21.1 IP with the Cubs Sampson has a 2.53 ERA, but a 5.97 FIP. The Brewers hitter with the most success against him is Jackie Bradley, Jr. who is 2-for-3 with two home runs and a walk against Sampson.

The current Cubs hitters only have 9 combined at bats against Lauer, and have gone 0-for-9 with 5 K and 0 BB.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I believe the 11 straight started after Wisdom did that stare down into the dugout after drawing a walk.

We’re going to the game today, so I’m expecting a vintage Sunday lineup. With Garcia and Cain sitting, but not on the IL, and 3 catchers on the roster, the options for second line position players are pretty limited. Bradley in CF is a virtual given, so that’s a black hole right there. I’m expecting to see Reyes for either Wong or Escobar as somebody gets a day off before the Cardinals series. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Maile starting either.

I also wonder if Boxberger, Williams, and Hader will all be off limits so they aren’t used two days in a row (3 in Hader’s case) right before the Cards come in.

I’d really like a win today to get the magic number down to 2 so that it will only take one win over the Cardinals to wrap up the division. But, if the Cubs score some runs early, I could see this turning into one of those white flag days with the back end of the bullpen filling innings. If it does, I’m sure the Cubs fans in attendance will act like their team has done something great. I wish I had a T shirt with some appropriate picture, like Bernie Brewer standing over a dead Bear, with the message “15-3, 11 in a row”.

ETA: I didn’t see until now that Maile has been optioned and Lopes recalled. So, that probably means Narvaez catching today, but they can give two of Wong, Escobar, and Urias the day off and start Reyes and Lopes.

ETA2- Happily, Wong, Escobar, and Urias are all in the lineup, so JBJ is the only real dead spot in the order. Not as good as having Garcia, Adames, and Cain but the best they can do under the circumstances.

I have seen the runner on 2nd called the ghost runner all season long.

That is not the definition of a ghost runner.

A ghost runner was when you didn't have enough players as a kid, and you'd have to pull a runner off the bases to bat. That is what a ghost runner is, not using a real live baserunner at 2B to start an inning because of a stupid rule to quicken games...

Aug 10th scary and intimidating Patrick Wisdom stare down:

Since then, the Brewers have outscored the Cubs 51 - 17

It started back in April right after the Cubs beat the Brewers 15-2 on a Friday afternoon at Wrigley.

Yes, correct.

Looks like a SP change for the Cubs.

Keegan Thompson is off the IL and will start today. I wonder if their plan is to pitch Thompson for a couple of innings, then come in with Morgan, a LHP who just came off the bereavement list. The Brewers lineup is loaded with lefties with Garcia, Cain, and Adames all out and they could struggle against a lefty.

The Brewers could really use an early outburst against one of these bums the Cubs throw out there.

Pretty amazing stat, in particular because we haven't been playing the the Iowa Cubs all season. 9 of those 15 wins came against the Bryant/Rizzo/Baez Cubs team that was supposed to compete for the division. Instead, the Brewers put the nail in the coffin that led to the tear down. That core was supposed to be a dynasty, but combine taking the 1-seed from them in 2018 with this season...and the Brewers are no doubt a big part of why that never happened.

Any lineup with jbj in it constitutes a Sunday lineup

Btw I know what a ghost runner is. I just like calling it that because extra innings in mlb is like what you make up in your backyard with a whiffle bat

Cain and Garcia are hurt.....jbj is gonna play.

I know that. But I guarantee if you if it as the playoffs both of those guys would be playing today with their niggling injuries

Or at least one of them over jbj

Yes probably Garcia but not Cain …..but Brewers are doing the prudent thing so why complain?
