A little morning baseball for those of us in the central time zone. The Rays have Jalen Beeks serving as their opener today, he hasn’t gone more than 2.0 innings in any previous start this season (lasted a max of 2.1 IP in a relief appearance this year).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Anyone know why the start time is so early? I mean, it’s great for me but still really weird.

Guessing it's because they fly to Toronto tonight, but I could be wrong. Also, itd be a 1210 start central, so not to far off the normal 110 starts.

Yeah, it just seems weird to have a noon start, local time on a Wednesday.

Then again, maybe the Rays assume no one is going to come either way so may as well get the game over with.

Glad I checked in early today, nothing like some 9 AM baseball to make the workday go faster.

I wonder what the exit velocity was on that Yelich smash.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Lots of kids groups at the game today.

That might explain the early start. Start the game early so the groups can get back to their home bases earlier.

No way of knowing if Urias actually caught that ball, but terrific effort.

He had the smile of a guy who didn't catch it...

Curious if it’s legal for Beeks foot to not really even be on the rubber on those pitches. Not sure I’ve ever seen a lefty literally off the right side of the rubber. What’s the rule on that?

Just have to have a toe on it.

Lauer down 4 or 5 ticks on the fastball is concerning. He looks like the guy that got hit hard early in his tenure here.

He's sitting 91-95 right now. That's about normal for him. He wasn't hitting 100 before. At most, down a tick or two.

I suppose, but I feel like earlier in the year he was regularly around 95.  Now hes much more in the 90-93 range.
