Game Thread (8/18/2022): Dodgers (Heaney) at Brewers (Burnes) - 1:10 PM CDT

Impressive showing in that the Crew played the Dodgers pretty evenly this whole series.  The offense is whatever, but I’m impressed with the pitching staff.  LA was on some kind of heater at the plate coming in, but Brewers pitching put an end to that. And unsung hero of the series…Brent Suter?

Nuthin's ever easy. A 5 run lead w/ Burnes on the mound & you wind up having to use 5 pitchers. BP was fresh so it doesn't hurt you but still.......

Sure would be nice to still have Bickford, that's an impressive multi-inning arm for the pen. Didn't show that kind of when-I-most-need-it command when he was here.

To continue to look lost way too often at the plate (14 K) & split these four says something. It's nice to see the defense & consistent mound quality return. Time for one of those offensive hot (or at least lukewarm) streaks.

I’m surprised how little action is in this thread given how good this game has been.

When the same cast of characters keep saying that the game's over as soon as the opponent scores a run - or like in yesterday's game, after the first two batters walked - it becomes a miserable place to be.

People have a right to express their opinions.... up until the point that it makes for a bad experience for others.

Even then, they still can. But then most people leave and all that's left are the whiny cry babies...

He certainly did his job. Not a huge fan of his, but he's made adjustments after a real bad stretch & it seemed to work, so kudos. There are a lot of guys like him on the back end of pitching staffs (not his style of pitching, but effectiveness-wise). He's definitely once again become useful.

The game he started was a loss, but I want to give some props to Feliciano too. From everything I've heard his struggles are defensively, but after a misplay in the first inning on a WP I thought he was pretty solid, and loved his last two ABs.

While listening, I was busy failing to fix an old bike's rear hub. The win compensated for my abject failure (and I looked a a bunch of YouTube videos!)

I was listening while splitting wood and a damned wasp stung me in the wrist so I went back inside.

Wasps are the absolute worst.

Bickford was good last year. Not so, this year.

I went through the whole thread expecting to see a "Yeah it's great to win, but we can't win consistently if the only way we get runs is through home runs."  I wanted to ask if Dodger fans said something similar after last night's game, or if it was only brewer fans.  But, no one made such a comment. good going, guys.

In my case I was away from home all afternoon.

That was a big win for the Brewers to get a split in the series and mitigate the ground lost while the Cardinals swept the Rockies.

It figures to be a frustrating stretch of scoreboard watching as the Cardinals catch up on their games played against the league bottom feeders. They do have a tougher assignment this weekend against the competitive DBacks.

The Brewers could really use a series sweep, something they haven’t done in a 3 game series for quite awhile. I think their last two 3 game sweeps were against the Reds, one about 2 months ago and the other in early May.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah, that was a pessimistic take, even more so with the offensive struggles, the disappointing trade deadline, and playing against the Dodgers, but FanGraphs seemed to agree. The two walks were nearly a 14% increase in win probability, which was close to the percentage after the first Dodgers home run, so it wasn’t nothing. The Dodgers were more likely to win at that point.  Lauer did a hell of a job getting out of that inning unscathed. I wonder what the likelihood was for that.

Would've been in here posting about "how dumb Stearns is" and why "we need to fire the hitting coaches, hire them back, and then fire them again to make a statement" - but work got in the way. These day games are tough, glad to see we snagged the split though. Time to fire up the condensed game on mlb.tv.

I've resigned myself to the home run or nothing is largely the current state of professional baseball although the Brewers are probably towards upper end of the scale.

Padres fall to the lowly Nationals on the back of another substandard performance from Hader. Now just one game back of a wild card spot.

And actually one game up in the loss column.

He hit a batter, walked in the bases loaded, and then gave up another run on a sac-fly....So, no, not bogus. The runs weren't charged to him because he came on in relief of Darvish who had given up two singles.

You HAVE to be looking at a different game. NONE OF THAT HAPPENED with Hader.

You are quite wrong. 1-1 game turned into a 3-1 game with Hader pitching in the ninth. Probably not best to use all capitals here, either....
