RHP Lucas Erceg's MLB success story hit an unforgiving hiccup in his recent outing versus the Yankees. In the past, at both Biloxi and Nashville these types of outings led to extended bouts of futility (and bad luck). For his sake, I hope he gets right back to wheeling and dealing like he has. I continue to question where those 'Traded for Cash' earnings went. It was reported at the time this was a favor to the player but, mansometimes our favorite organization fails to see the forest for the trees. (Article HERE - 6/10)

Full article of quotes below (6/29): Erceg's Run of Dominance Hits a Snag Against Yankees

Quote

For being a rookie, Erceg’s ability to thrive in these types of situations has been remarkable. Prior to Thursday’s hiccup, he had stranded all 12 of his inherited runners, which was tied with Houston’s Seth Martinez for the most inherited runners in the Majors among pitchers with none scoring.

Quote

Erceg’s stuff was not much different on Thursday. He still maxed out at 99.9 mph with his sinker. This time, though, the command was off.

“He’s pretty nasty,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Erceg. “We were able to continue to add on and put a big inning on a pretty big arm coming in there.”

Renfroe / Bradley Jr. trade:

David Hamilton optioned by the Red Sox to AAA, first taste of MLB was difficult - 4-for-29 (two doubles), 5 BB, 10 K, 2-for-3 in SB - .138/.265/.207 (.472 small sample OPS).

Same trade: Corner INF Alex Binelas with a suitable .749 OPS at AA - 2021 3rd round pick, #86 overall.

Now that failed relief acquisition project RHP Matt Bush is back with the Rangers, I'm just here to remind us all of LHP Antoine Kelly's relief work this July for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate the Frisco RoughRiders:

8 G
9.0 IP
1 SVO
1 SV
4 H
1 BB
10 K
0 ER
0.129 BAA

Woo hoo!!!

This is very very well deserved. Wilson has been fantastic for Lehigh Valley in 2023: 25 long balls (!!), 0.885 OPS, 25 SB (6 CS). All the shades of his first Triple-A work with Nashville in 2021 but with more PA's. So happy for Wilson - a truly versatile and talented baseball player.

It’s too bad that the Winker-Singleton coin flip went the wrong way:

BUMP. Big Jon has been killing it for the Space Cowboys. And, it would appear he is on the possible precipice of his second call-up in 2023!

More HERE: Astros Option Corey Julks; Jon Singleton Promotion Under Consideration

In 148 trips to the plate with the Space Cowboys, Singleton has batted .333/.446/.692 with a dozen home runs, seven doubles, a 17.6% walk rate and a 23% strikeout rate.

I don't know if any of y'all have been following the fantastic season of RHP Justin Topa but out this way it's a bit easier to keep tabs on the West Coast teams (obvious reasons). He's been a primary 7th and 8th inning guy for the Mariners. His big development this season has been control - only 11 BB in 44 IP out of the Mariners bullpen. 1.16 WHIP on the season w/ a very healthy 2.45 ERA. 39 K in 44 IP - not crushing with K's, it would appear, but more than holding his own. 17 Holds. 2 SV (3 SVO). 0.241 OBA / 0.289 OOBP / 0.602 OOPS.

Just really happy for him. A really solid ongoing 'prove it' season for his future MLB career.

RHP Peter Strzelecki has been assigned to the PCL West 1st Place Reno Aces and has taken on a set-up role in his brief tenure there - 2 G, 2 IP, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K.

Keep it up Mr. Strzelecki. We're rooting for your continued success.

He's played ever game at 2B. In his third outing, he was shifted to 3B in the 6th inning after (sniffles) INF Pablo Reyes shifted to 2B to accommodate a PH and defensive re-alignment. Reyes, as expected, has done admirably all season long as a call-up and utility guy. I miss him in Nashville and the Brewers organization.

Just did a quick peak (for those interested) at INF Jhonny Severino'brief work with the FCL Pirates (post-Santana trade). It would appear they are playing him solely at 3B to start things. He's played in 3 G so far. 1 E and graded with a 0.750 FP% - on an identical pace to what we saw with the ACL Crew. He clearly hit the new turf just as comfy at the dish: 10 AB, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 2 SB, 0 CS, 0.300 BA, 0.964 OPS.

We wish you well, Mr. Severino. Best of luck the rest of your season and beyond!

Bump. Pour one out for Señor Reyes:
