I hadn't noticed this until right now but over the next three weeks, the Brewers play 17 games.

Nine of them are against the Cincinnati Reds. Six at home, three on the road.

And Milwaukee could essentially put the Cubs to bed over the next three games. I don't consider the Pirates a real contender.

It sure seems like this could be a huge couple weeks, but it seems way too likely that we win 4 or 5 and it stays effectively the same. It would take a 7-2 by one team to really dent playoff odds

I was thinking of 2021 today, where the Brewers lost three in a row to the Reds coming in to the ASB, then immediately swept them coming out of it. That team was 81-52 heading into September. They went 14-17 the rest of the way.

After the last two games, I'm just reminding myself how long the season is. Games right before the break always suck me in way too much emotionally because you don't want to leave a bad taste in your mouth heading into a week with no games. I felt so dumped when we had that nightmare series in Pittsburgh in 2018 (and when we lost another 2 of 3 to the Pirates the next year), so pumped when we took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in 2017, and depressed again last year when we got swept by the Giants heading into the break.

Point is: none of those stretches (bad or good) really said much about the overall course of the season. I still think the Reds are going to swoon a bit at some point. We're in clear playoff contention. Let's stick within a couple games of a playoff spot over these next four days and just go from there.
