I’d say scoops are a fairly important part of the overall defensive profile for a 1B

Exactly. They were saying on the telecast after he botched a couple of plays against the Cubs that Miller was out working with the coaches on footwork and scooping throws. That doesn’t sound like something you do with a seasoned, polished 1B if you think his misplays are just one of those things that happen to everyone.

I don’t know how some of those advanced defensive statistics are derived, but maybe they focus more on range and fielding ground balls than the ability to come up with imperfect throws.

First base is usually seen as a position where you put a prolific hitter. Even if Miller were a gold glove fielder, the team would be getting hurt by his offense. And he is not a gold glove fielder.

I never said he was a good fit for 1B. Just that he's statistically one of the better fielding 1B.

You would think that if he wasn't a good fielder at 1B, they wouldn't have him playing 1B at all considering his below average bat.

I don't know if we'd be over .500 if it weren't for the Contreras trade.

I still can't believe Arnold pulled that off. It was hands-down the best, most savvy move of the entire baseball offseason.

Imagine, feuding about scoops at first base while the team you root for is batting and scoring an insurance run in the eighth.

Adames is struggling.

He's got company.

Miller's hitting .208 for the last 30 games

Taylor's not hitting at all. Even though he's been hurt.
