Last night hurt, a lot of good contact too that just didn't fall, but it happens.

Gray has been great so far this year, but he does have a 1.41 WHIP and an xERA of 4.5, so maybe he's overperformed quite a large amount

He's got a six pitch mix (with a 1% occasional changeup for seven if you'd count that) with a slider, four seam, cutter, sinker, curveball and a sweeper

Slider, four seamer and cutter are the pitches that have seen damage done against them, his three most used pitches, but in general all his pitches have been hit with regularity if not all for power

His ground ball rate has risen from 34% last season to 41.7% this year which has been a big factor in limiting damage, key tonight is those hits with men on base. Hopefully can get good Freddy tonight to break this losing stretch and build a little momentum back

Will Canha be with the club tonight and available to play?  Is Arnold done wheeling and dealing?  I know many of us think making another trade is an exercise in futility but management may not not agree.

Yes!  Counsell said so last night!

Oh, ok.  I didn't watch the post game show last night after that disappointing loss.

I hesitate to use the words "must win" on August 1, but the Brewers need to get going and start beating up on the dregs on their schedule. Reds face a tough pitching matchup today against Steele. Great time to gain that game back and be in control of your own destiny in the Central once again.

This is what killed them down the stretch last year.  They kept losing to bottom feeders, and their surprisingly solid numbers against playoff teams were entirely cancelled out.

Can’t let that keep happening this year.

Good god....Just when I was looking forward to the end of Wiemer and Turang hitting 8th and 9th in the order and a Frelick/Wiemer platoon in CF.

Wiemer might be figuring things out. He’s been really solid since June 1st. Since June 1st he has a .345 xwOBA overall, .339 xwOBA vs RHP, and a .360 xwOBA vs LHP.

He had a .321 xwOBA overall and against LHP and RHP in July so despite the 80 wRC+ he was still around league average for the month in xwOBA

That would be great if he wasn't also hitting in tandem with Turang. Turang is walking more, but still showing zero signs of power.

The best thing about the trade deadline? It's a DEADline; it ends.

I'm tired of all the ESPN &c blather about the infinite posssible/potential "blockbuster" trades.

Arnold stayed true to his word. Upgraded responsibly and improved major areas of weakness. Our plan was to rely on our elite pitching and D and hope the rookies develop. Excited for the rest of the season.

Think quero and black get called up to AAA. Probably won’t call anyone up until 45 days left in the season so they can qualify for the prospect pick thing.

The season is two thirds over. The rookies are not going to develop anytime soon.

If Frelick merely produces for the next 10 years like he has in his first week+ he will have a fine, fine career.  So no need to develop, just don't regress...

And Wiemer has been fine since June as well.

What I like about Santana is how hard he is working to fit in.  Almost has the OPS down to an acceptable Brewer level.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Peralta might have to be perfect tonight to keep the Brewers in the game. Gray can be tough.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
