Wed. 6/18 - It's Not a Complex Day (as in, All The Complex Kids are Idle)

Wisconsin's game today was canceled due to weather. That should help the thin Wisconsin pitching staff get through the week.

1B Andrew Vaughn hit a grand slam in AAA Nashville’s home win against Iowa yesterday and looks to support RHP Garrett Stallings (1.99 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 in 22.2 IP) today. Is this another spot start or are we lengthening Stallings out (51 pitches 6 days ago)?

23-year old RHP Tyson Hardin (2.34 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 57.2 High-A Wisconsin) makes his AA debut as Biloxi looks to clinch the first half title at home against Knoxville. DH Brock Wilken is tied for the Minor League lead in homers (18).

Possible thunderstorms beginning 7 pm local time in Nashville. So far, the game is on. Man, I do wish I could attend for one of these absolute BEAUTS:

91 degrees F in Zebulon - this is the hottest first pitch of their season. Made makes the first catch on a bloop pop to shallow left CF as he tracks it from SS. One down. Meccage has now thrown strike ones to both batters after their respective first pitches.

RHP Bryce Meccage looks to shake off a 3-game slump (10.2 IP, 11 H, 11 R, 10 BB, 10 Ks) and lead Low-A Carolina to a 2-0 home series lead over Columbia. SS Jesus Made has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games (12-for-34).

A 1-1 weak pop fly to shallow right CF. 2B Luis Peña easily tracks it for the second out. Strike one (foul 3B side) to the third batter on a hight outside corner zone heater (lefty bat). He gets a 95 mph heater high in the zone for the swing and miss K. Really nice efficient first frame for Bryce. Love to see it.

Peña strikes out on three pitches (uncharacteristic AB). Made gets dinged up some on the left side of his face in a pick-off throw to 1B. Trainer and manager Nick Stanley visit him. He appears fine - smiling even - and will remain in the game.

Made now advances to 2B and gets all the way to 3B on a WP during the play to the backstop. Bitonti will try to knock him across.

Bitonti gets ahead 2-0. Takes two massive hacks on change-ups that dipped below the zone - nowhere close on those swings. He then K's swinging on a 95 mph heater low and inside. Two down. José Anderson will try to execute and quickly falls behind 0-2.

Anderson goes down looking at a 96 mph heater on the outer black. The Muddies go down swinging, swinging, and looking. Perez's addition of a change-up (used to be all heater---->slider) has really improved his overall look.

Meccage works around the lead-off double with a groundout to SS, fly out to left CF, and a fly out to right CF. Nice work around.

Rodriguez goes down looking in a 3-2 count. Heater on the inner black. Great location on that pitch. That's six up. Six down. 5 K for the Muddies bats.

We have a lottttt of heat this weekend. Next week highs in the 100's. I'm heading out their "wish me luck in the heat" Saturday for the Brewers Weekend Jersey. I'll post a photo in Saturday's thread when I get home from the game.

Back from farm chores. Meccage leads off his third frame with another scorched double (high off the RF wall this time) to a lefty. He is sacrificed to 3rd (Columbia leads the Carolina League in Sacrifices - the Mudcats have zero). Sac fly to left CF and the Mudcats trail 1-0.

Two out walk. First pitch high heater for a ball and the runner takes second base. Meccage misses with a change up but he has to learn to use it more. Love to see it regardless of the result. Made chases down and makes an incredible running catch down the LF line somehow beating Rodriguez to the ball to end the threat. Whewww.
