2B Juan Ortuno (.889 OPS in 92 ACL PAs) makes his Low-A affiliate debut after a 3-month injury absence, as Carolina seeks to complete a doubleheader sweep at Fredericksburg. Intriguing 18-year old LHP Enderson Mercado gets the start after exiting early via an injury delay in his last outing 8 days ago.

After finishing up yesterday’s rain-suspended game with a close loss, Wisconsin is tied 1-1 in their series at South Bend. The teams follow with a 7-inning contest tonight, with RHP Sam Garcia (4.22 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 98 High-A/Low-A IP) toeing the slab. SS Luis Pena gets a chance to snap out of a 2-for-44, 1 BB funk.

Garcia had an unpleasant 3-run, 29-pitch first inning, conceding a double, 2 singles and 2 walks.

But a Dinges walk and Baez single have us in business in the 2nd inning.

Salem just turned a 2-0 early deficit into a 6-2 lead in the 4th inning against Fayetteville.

That’d be a helpful result for our Mudcats, who are battling Fayetteville and Fredericksburg for a playoff spot.

Nicasia stays hot, doubling home Dinges, but that’s all we get. Down 3-1 in the 2nd inning.

Sadly, a 2-out, 2-run single to center gives Fredericksburg a quick 2-0 lead in Game 2 of Carolina’s doubleheader.

Carolina is the home team in this contest, as it’s a make-up game from an earlier home series.

Hey, a Ragsdale single and Jose Anderson 2-run shot knot things back in the bottom of the 1st. Sweet!! Anderson nearly hit for the cycle in yesterday’s tough loss, so that’s back-to-back homer days for him.

Huge moment in the Mudcats game. Bases loaded. One down. Ragsdale just worked a seven pitch walk. It is now a  5-3 Nationals leaf. Mound visit and a pitching change. Payne with an opportunity to chip into their deficit even further in the bottom of the 5th of a 7-inning game.
