The AAA Sounds can grab a 3-0 series lead at Norfolk behind RHP Chad Patrick, who’s throwing on 4 days’ rest after a dominant Saturday start (6 IP, 0 R, 5 Ks in 85 pitches). 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. has had 5 consecutive multi-hit games.

Can the Sounds win their seventh straight? More importantly, will they ever lose a baseball game ever again? Back to you in the studio, Daniel.

Just checked. All is apparently fine with Patrick. It appears as though they had a scheduled 70-pitch intention with the outing. He struck out two in his final frame (including a beautiful outer black hook for a swinging K). Gave up two ground ball singles up the middle. At 71 pitches, Quero looked to the dugout and the bullpen was already warming and LHP Brian Fitzpatrick got the call. Very much all appearances of a pre-planned 70 pitch outing.

I see RHP Chad Patrick was pulled at 3 2/3 IP. Pitch count was at 71 with 7 K. Seems a bit inauspicious. Did anyone have eyes on this?

Did not watch, but he was on four days rest after throwing 85 pitches four days ago.

Believe the Brewers generally abbreviate the length / pitch count on those four days rest starts.

That's what I'll tell myself, anyway.

Precisely it, fine Chap. It was pre-scheduled - to the gills, as one might say in some high school or college locker room (somewhere?). I don't really know. I'm middle-aged and extremely un-hip to the new parlance(s).

After an excruciating defeat yesterday, Low-A Carolina looks for a doubleheader sweep at Fredericksburg to renew their faint playoff hopes. That quest begins with LHP Wande Torres, who’s coming off a fine last start (5 IP, 1 R, 2 Ks). 18-year old DH/C Kevin Garcia has hit safely in 9 of his last 11 games.

Fine start for Eric Bitonti and the Mudcats, plating Brady Ebel after he’d singled to center. 2-0 thru 1 inning. That’s 19 dingers for our league-leading slugger.

Bitonti has absolutely showed up in the most important series of the Mudcats season. Through 2 G and 3 innings (Muddies lead 5-0):

5-for-8, 3 R, 5 RBi, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 BB, 0 K.

You absolutely love to see this.

Ebel, Di Turi and Kevin Garcia all 2-for-2 through 3.

I do believe Ebel's double early in Game 1 was his first professional XBH, no?

Yesiree Bob!

3 runs on 5 hits in that 3rd inning, including RBI doubles by Ebel and Encarnacion.

5-0, though we did strand the bases loaded in that frame.

Whew. Torres escapes a bases loaded self-creation (1B, WP, BB, HBP) in the 3rd inning by getting a 5-3 groundout to Lameda with the count 3-and-1.

On to the 4th, leading 5-0.

High-A Wisconsin’s rain-suspended game from yesterday in South Bend has resumed with the good guys leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning.

It’s 20-year old RHP Bishop Letson on the hill for his 4th outing after missing 3+ months (2.1 IP, 2 R, 3 Ks in 49 pitches last week).

Torres is at 69 pitches thru 4 innings, but I’ve got to imagine he’ll continue and break his season-high of 76 next frame. The team needs to get thru 4 more games yet this week.

Mudcats still up 5-0.

I was wrong. RHP Joshua Quezada is in for the 5th inning. Hold on tight.

And Quezada felt my slight, so he balls out by retiring 6 of 7 batters, includes 5 via strikeout. 5-0 lead entering the final inning!

I do believe I will take Quezada's 2.0 IP of 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 0 E most nights.

2B Zavier Warren returns for his first game action in 11 days as the AA Shuckers shoot for a 3-0 home series lead over Pensacola. RHP Alexander Cornielle had a recent outing 5 days ago (5.1 IP, 2 R, 6 Ks).

Kind of a nightmare game for Guilarte, as his error in center field extended the 6th inning with Letson on the mound, ultimately resulting in 2 unearned runs for a 3-2 deficit.

Now he Ks (0-for-4, 3 Ks between yesterday and today) with the bases loaded, 1 out in the top of the 8th inning with the game tied 3-3.

And Luke Adams grounds out to strand ‘em. To the bottom of the 8th they go in South Bend.

Letson has thrown 4 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out 5.

I mean the only story actually happening in that T-Rats game is a healthy Letson expanding his pitch count, once again, dominancing. Guilarte? CF Guilarte, no less. Yeah...moving on.😅

Great job by Quezada to close it out in Fredericksburg, even after loading the bases with nobody out in the 9th. He allowed just 1 run over 3 innings, registering 6 Ks in 54 pitches to save arms for Game 2 tonight.

That’s a 5-1 Mudcats’ win in Game 1.

Quezada ran into a lil bases loaded no out trouble in the bottom of the 7th, but he navigated out of it like a champ: K, Force Out, Fly Out. Muddies win game 1 with a final score of 5-1!

LHP Anthony Flores had been on such a great run: 1 ER over last 20 IP with 24 Ks; 3 ER over last 26 IP with 31 Ks.

But tonight he gives up a single and homer to the first 2 batters he faces in the bottom of the 8th inning in South Bend. Shoot!

Timber Rattlers trail 5-3.
