The Arizona Fall League playoff semifinals are underway, with 1B Luke Adams (HBP), LF Josh Adamczewski (BB) and 2B Dylan O’Rae (BB, RBI) all featuring for Surprise against Mesa.

We lead 2-0 in the 3rd inning. The Guardians’ 25-year old RHP Trenton Denholm started for the good guys, Yankees’ 23-year old RHP Cade Smith for the opposition.

Good to see Adams and O'Rae full participants. They got the mini post-ASG break and should be fresh. Naturally, Luke has already been HBP. He is something else!

Surprise grabbed a 3rd run on an Adamczewski RBI walk in the 5th inning, then conceded 3 runs in the 6th.

Still tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Adams had a chance to play hero but popped out for the 2nd out. But Royals' catcher Blake Mitchell followed with a walk-off RBI single.

The Saguaros win 4-3 and will play in the AFL final tomorrow, Friday.

Thursday Winter Leagues -

Jeferson Quero, DH - 0-for-3, one BB (.255/.349/.527 in 63 plate appearances)

Sammy Peralta, LHP - 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 34 pitches/28 strikes - just one earned run allowed in seven innings

Surprise conceded a run in each of the 1st and 2nd innings, then ran themselves out of a 2-on, Adamczewski-up opportunity on a failed double steal to end the 4th inning.

Lacking length options in this AFL Championship, Jesus Broca entered in the 2nd inning, giving up a double and RBI triple before retiring 6 straight (well, there was a walk and pick off in there).

Anthony Flores gave up an HBP, single and RBI groundout in the 5th inning, so we’re down 3-0 to Peoria at this point.

Josh Adamczewski has a single and a walk, Luke Adams has a walk and a stolen base. Dylan O’Rae also started.

Anthony Flores was fighting his mechanics for most of the top of the 6th inning, ultimately conceding 1 run and stranding 2. He threw 41 pitches (22 strikes) in his 2 innings of work.

Time for the Surprise offense to wake up, trailing 4-0.

The Saguaros scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th to make it a 4-2 game.

Luke Adams drew a full count walk to load the bases and Adamczewski hit a rifle (102.2mph) right to the second baseman for the 3rd out.

The announcers have been raving about the Brewers’ drafting, signings and Luke Adams’ all-around ability.

Trailing 4-2, the team’s best chance for a multi-run inning is this bottom of the 8th: Dylan Dreiling, Luke Adams, Blake Mitchell, Dylan Campbell due up.

Awesome inning. Luke Adams draws a 1-out walk (3rd of the day) to get things going.

A single and walk later, Adamczewski smacks a game-tying 2-run double the other way just over the 3rd base bag. Juan Benjamin follows with a 2-run single to grab a 6-4 advantage.

And they kept it going: O’Rae and Adams both singled as part of a 7-run, 12-batter 8th inning to take a 9-4 lead.

Edwin Jimenez (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks - Win) retired 3 of 4 in the 9th inning to close out their AFL Championship win 9-4.

Brewers’ pitchers covered 6 of the 9 innings, while Adams (1-for-2, 3 walks, RBI, SB), Adamczewski (2-for-3, double, walk, 2 RBIs) and O’Rae (1-for-4, SB) each contributed meaningfully.

Saturday in Venezuela - C Jeferson Quero and 3B Eduardo Garcia combine on an 0-for-6 night with three K's, though Garcia drove in a run with a sac fly and Quero scored a run in a 5-1 win. No baserunner attempted a steal vs. Quero and his pitchers.
