I don't really love Steer very much, but I'll support your idea to use Mitchell and Ortiz as makeweights instead of prospects.

Every single team that wants to compete next season that needs a little more defense (and nearly all of them do) should be trying to acquire those two players. Just because they happen to be lower on our perceived totem poles (depending on how much you regard Mitchell's injury history and present performance, or how much faith you have that Joey can be cromulent with the bat), doesn't mean they don't have value on a good team.

And if you are the Brewers, it would be a lot easier to fit another RH stick on the roster w/o one of the LH outfielders, or easier to fit a 3B on the roster w/o Ortiz.

So much about this trade deadline, even though the Brewers are absolutely focused on winning this season is about what you want your team to look like in '27 and '28, and if we want to keep the good prospects, we need to make room for them.
