thought I'd add this. So when people envision Brandon Wood, what do they expect? I figured he'd be a well built guy...kind of like a Branyan. Well, I saw him and I couldn't believe it. He makes Krynzel and Hardy look like powerlifters, and the closest resemblence in terms of build is likely Craig Counsell. Of course, he swings as hard as it humanly possible, hence why he either hits homers or strikes outs.

Javelinas lose, 9-5, as former Brewer draft pick (unsigned) and now Yankee farmhand Steven White earned the win, although Corey Hart drove in four runs in his AB's vs. White.

RHP Brian Wolfe worked again, as the Javelina staff is thinner than most, with losses such as Dana Eveland that weren't filled.

Grand Canyon Top 9th

Pitcher Change: Brian Wolfe replaces Mike Flannery.

-- Reggie Abercrombie triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Nick Markakis.

-- Matt Moses singles on a line drive to left fielder Val Majewski. Reggie Abercrombie scores.

-- David Parrish singles on a line drive to left fielder Val Majewski. Matt Moses to 2nd.

-- Robert Andino grounds into double play, shortstop Alcides Escobar to second baseman Dan Uggla to first baseman Michael Johnson. Matt Moses to 3rd. David Parrish out at 2nd.

-- Josh Wilson lines out to shortstop Alcides Escobar.

Vinny Rottino had a leadoff walk in a 9th inning pinch-hit appearance.

DH Corey Hart (now 18-for-55, .327, with six extra-base hits, it's just Corey being Corey):

-- strikes out swinging in the 1st, man on second, two out

-- triples on a fly ball to right field in the 3rd, two out, base loaded, three RBI

-- homers (his 3rd of the fall) on a fly ball to left center field, two out in the 5th -- it was the tail end of back-to-back Javelina home runs

-- grounds out sharply 1-3 in the 7th, no one on, two out

SS Alcides Escobar (back up to .300 at 21-for-70, one extra base hit, 11 K's, no walks). Escobar walked once every 26 AB's this past season in West Virginia (20 times in 520 AB's).

-- singles on a bunt ground ball to third base in the 3rd, no one on, one out, later scores -- Gary Pettis really has Alcides focusing on his bunting this fall

-- flies out to left field in the 4th, man on first, two out

-- singles on a fly ball to right field in the 6th, no one on, two out

-- grounds out 4-3 in the 9th, no one out, man on 1st moves to 2nd

-- Escobar handled his only two fielding chances cleanly

Man, I hope we can fine Hart time next year. He just hits everywhere he goes. Does anyone else think that he doesn't get enough publicity? When its all said and done, I think he is going to be the best player out of the rookie crop from last year.

Hart likely won't be better than Weeks or Fielder, but Hart does get overlooked. I was intrigued by him when he was in Rookie ball, but he kind of fell off of my list until this season. I was skeptical of him, yet he kept producing. My major concern now is that he appears to play a solid CF, but looks rather lost in the corner OFs. He really needs to improve defensively. If we wanted a no-field OF, we would have kept Magruder. Still, Hart could be an exciting player in a few years. His swing is extremely compact for his size.

Thanks to Brewerfan poster plowjockey for reminding us about this audio link of Corey Hart when he joined the radio booth Tuesday. Scroll down to the November 1st archive at this link:

Hart homered on Saturday and walked twice -- Vinny Rottino and Alcides Escobar also combined to reach four times, details are in the game box score and log linked just above....

Four games left, next one's Monday...

Corey Hart has been so much fun to watch as he has moved up. He has hit at every single level, and has been a proven run-producer. I know people have questioned whether or not he would make the proper adjustments moving up since he didn't draw as many walks as you may like to see, but he has proven that if you know how to hit you don't necessarily have to post those ideal BB:AB ratios, or whatever you're into. While I'm not huge on the Richie Sexson comparisons, he may be similar to Sexson in that he may develop more patience as he matures as a ballplayer.

I'm excited to see Hart on the big-league roster to open the '06 season. I don't think there is any question that he will, and while he may be a role player in his first full season, you have to believe there will be a full-time opportunity in '07.

Ok, enough Hart gushing...

Escobar seems like he's going to be the real deal too! I thought he would be overmatched, it appears that he has proven me wrong. I wonder how long he has before we see him in a Brew Crew uniform.

I just hope escobar can get more than singles, and maybe watch the ball now and then. Has he walked yet? But he's looking alright so far. Better than I thought he would.

Hart and Escobar(2b!) with big days today http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . I'll let Mass Haas give the wrap up though.

The difference between Hart and Magruder is that Hart will provide offense if he gets regular playing time. If Corey can hit, I'm not gonna sweat the defense.

The Javelinas (17-12) host the Peoria Saguaros (8-21) Tuesday afternoon, 2:05 PM Central, no audio. The season is winding down, ending Thursday the 10th. The Javelinas trail Phoenix by three games with three to play.

Corey Hart is your DH Tuesday, Vinny Rottino your third baseman and Alcides Escobar your shortstop.

On Monday, as noted above, Hart (.339, OPS 1.033) and Escobar (.321, OPS .688) each had two base hits in four AB's, with Hart hitting his 5th AFL roundtripper and Escobar doubling for his 2nd extra-base hit of the fall.

Twins castoff Brian Wolfe's strong fall continued:

With two games remaining in the season, the Javelinas have been eliminated from consideration for the championship game, even though they have the league's second-best record.

Actually, it's video and audio tonight!

For any Sporting News readers out there, there is a small line about Hart's successful AFL season and that he projects to be a utility man for the Crew next year. Nice to see him get a little national exposure.

Holy cow, that was definitely a last-minute announcement and update by MILB.com!

Of course, Steve Hammond pitched five solid innings and I tune in for the sixth inning http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

Vinny Rottino just entered the game, and Corey Hart is idle.

Alcides Escobar has two hits, including a double, but I just saw him strike out -- fun to see, though.

I doubt the game in its entirety will be archived, but here's hoping - would love to go back and watch Hammond, along with Escobar's previous at-bats...

Got to see Corey smoke a first-pitch line drive single and Vinny hit a soft liner for a single as well.

Very cool for November 9th http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
