The only thing JJ did wrong was not trying to hit the ball to the right side.

You can still fail and move the runners. That is why you let him hit. He doesn't strikeout much, so you let him swing away to move the runners. He just might get a hit. You can still bunt your pitcher after that.

36 pitches for cappy after 3 innings and no walks. That's not bad at all. With the lineup the cards are putting out there thsi is exactly the way to pitch to them.

bjamesw22, by the logic in that last post, you would bunt with the #8 hitter every time a man is on 1st.

Think about it this way. If the pitcher has a, say, 90% chance of making an out, and the #8 guy bunts, basically guaranteeing an out, you make two outs anyway.

Even Dusty Baker wouldn't bunt in that situation.

Yeah, I know, he just hits a lot of soft grounders which would in this case make a double play.

Didn't look like a balk.

Cappy has a good pickoff move. Opposing teams will complain and claim he's balking...

Not even close. First of all, there were guys on 1st AND second. Secondly, we are playing the division leader with a 2 run lead. The more runs you put across the more pressure you put on that team. You have a much better chance of getting more runners across with guys on 2 and 3 with one out no matter who is up.
