Mexican League Question

Posted

How does the Mexican League compare to MiLB? I always understood that it's basically AAA-level, but wondered if that was accurate.

I'm in a baseball simulation league and I have a AAA minor leaguer named Carlos Rivera who is absolutely tearing apart the league. He plays for Guerreros de Oaxaca - look at these numbers through 85 games and 309 AB's:

.421/.515/.641

130 hits

15 HR

65 RBI

67 R

.421 average and .515 OBP through 85 games?

Anyhow, just thought I'd point out someone having a great season and to ask the question about the Mexican league.

Most tend to view it as a AA league, but in reality, it's loaded with players at the A-AAA level. Some teams used to have agreements with them to send them 2-3 extra AAA players, and they would often hit about .350, so it's far from AAA.

Thanks. But you have to admit those numbers are pretty impressive for any level! Unfortunately, at 29 he's probably not even prospect material any longer.
