A Proposed Rockies Trade

Brewers Get:

 

Garret Atkins

Manny Corpas

 

Colorado Gets:

Bill Hall

Chris Capuano/Dave Bush

Zack Jackson

TGJ/ Darren Ford / Steve Hammond / Chris Cody / David Welch (Pick 2)

 

The Rockies are going to have to free up third base with Ian Stewart coming up shortly. They dont really have a lot of depth in the outfield or Hall could also play 2B in the place of Kaz Matsui. This trade seems like it would be a clear upgrade for the Rockies. Cappy or Bush would add better depth to the rotation as well

 

Obviously if the Crew were to trade for Atkins, Braun would be moved to LF with Hart in CF. I think that would improve the defense and the offense. Manny Corpas is going to be a stud and could possibly be our closer if we dont retain Cordero.

 

I am not sure of the contract status of Atkins so that might change things. This is his 4th year in MLB and he is making $400K this year. So I think that means we would have his rights for at least 2008 and 2009.

I think he's kind of a Coors field mirage.

 

To me, all those guys seem to be a lot to give up for Atkins and a reliever that isn't really super-dominant.

 

I'd rather take Atkins out of the equation and try and get Brian Fuentes for something cheaper.

You also have to remember he has to play at San Diego and Los Angeles a couple time a year. Even with those splits I would take a .850 OPS at 3rd base especially if you consider Atkins to be better than ant LF we could get. Because you either A. Get a LF and leave Braun at 3B or B. Get a 3B and move Braun to LF. I think Atkins would be a may better talent than any player we could find to play LF.

And I think Fuentes is more realistic.

 

I don't think they're trading Corpas who put up fantastic numbers this year, and who's going to be cheap the next several years. But then you're talking about trading a guy who's going to be a FA in the near future, and Hall's a pretty steep price.

 

He would make a heckuva SU man though, IMO, this teams biggest need next year.
