Cordless phone knocking out wireless internet

My parents have a cordless phone that every time it rings the wireless internet (802.11b) on their computer in that room goes out and has to be reset. So now that I found out why there internet goes out, how can I fix it? Any cheap and or free ways to address this problems since they won't take out the phone?

I'm going to assume that the phone is 2.4 Ghz, which unfortunately is the same range of frequencies that the 802.11b and g run on. My advice is to get either a 900Mhz phone or a 5.8 Ghz phone.

Also running in the 2.4 Ghz range are, believe it or not, microwaves.

Edit: seeing as you are looking for a free alternative, you could try adjusting the channel of the wireless access point. It will still be in the 2.4 Ghz range, but maybe there will be less overlap. Try channels 1,6, or 11. These are the only truly independent frequencies in the US range of wireless internet frequencies as dictated by the FCC. I can't guarantee that this will work, but it is worth a shot.

Yeah, you could try a different channel and that may work. Otherwise you will need a new phone. Microwave ovens also operate in that frequency and would knock out wireless when running.
