Is there a free graphics program out there?

I'm trying to make a floorplan graphic on my computer with a couple of overlays, etc and all I have is the original paint program that comes with all the standard microsoft operating system software. Needless to say that doesn't do the trick. I'm looking for a graphics program I guess you could say that is free for use. I dont want to pay for photoshop, I dont want a trial version and yet I dont want something so sophisiticated that I will never understand the tools. Any Help? No doubt that Gimp is powerful, but I find that Paint.NET is much easier to use.

wow that gimp is complicated. Paint.net for me after evaluating both programs. If I had half a brain, gimp would be doable..thanks guys

I was going to recommend both of the above programs. I do find myself using Paint.net more often (when I use Windows that is).

 

GIMP is also available for linux.

Hmmm... I'll have to check Paint.net. I'm an avid Gimp user, there are a few gimp how to sites out there that have cool techniques.
