  1. Heretic is the brewery Jamil started up I believe. Sure is. He and his crew were up in Oregon till the day after we stopped there otherwise I would have gotten to meet him. Bummer. They need more work, but this was the last tap of the first keg from their first run on their equipment. Not 100% awesome beer is to be expected.
  2. When I get some time I'll review the beers I remember from my trip. But we hit up the following breweries. 21st Amendment - Not worth the hype, stuff in the cans are their best stuff. I wanted to love them more, but just didn't. Russian River - Dive brewpub, great beer. IPAs were unreal, the belgians all had a sour twang that made it enjoyable (Brett based) Bear Republic - Nascar themed brewpub, but really good beer. Had their 15th anniversary racer 15 DIPA and it was unreal. Lagunitias - Awesome place, unreal beer garden. When a beer missed it missed hard, when it hit it knocked it out of the park. 13th Alt is great. Glad I was able to get 2 bombers of it. FYI, they love pot. Heretic/JA Phair - Start up, brew house isn't' even done yet. Beer needs some work, JA Phair traditional english pales were really good, the rest forgettable.
  3. Headed to the left coast at the end of the week. Looking forward to hitting up Heritic, Lagunitas, 21st Amd, Russian River.
  4. Yeah it's been illegal for a long time, just as tailgating was illegal till a few years back. But the new administration at the state ATF is really active about it and have been jackwagons about it. A racine home brew competition was closed down via some what threats by the state ATF. The WHA (Wisconsin Homebrewers Association) is attempting to introduce some legislation that would change some of the local laws to allow serving of samples and competitions. It all comes down to the lack of tax stamps and how the man can't get their taste.
  5. Neat. Good story, how long ago did he get hit in the face?
  6. Category 14 - IPA and Category 10C American Brown. Results I brewed the Northern Brewer Furious Pro kit for the IPA, but the American Brown is based on Bender but it's been changed enough to be it's own beer.
  7. Read Palmers 'How to brew' book. It'll tell you all you need to know. There's a digital copy available, but it's a bit dated, but will get you up to all grain easily.
  8. They sell a privacy shelter at camping stores, those multi use ones that double as a shower. Get that, and a portable bathroom, or even a bucket, and you are done.
  9. I actually drank the Big Flats. It wasn't nearly as horrible as I thought it was going to be.. then it got a little less ice ice cold and then the terrible came through.
  10. Provide your own bathroom and you've won opening day. That's what we do.
  11. Team doesn't win a single game. All 5 sausages break their legs in a tragic accident while rounding the home plate. All sausages will be ok, but the image of compound fractures will haunt us the rest of the season. Mat Gamel cuts his hair. It is revealed that The Ax isn't an Canadian, but was actually born in Greenland. He feels better about himself for not being Canadian and strikes out 27 batters on 84 pitches. The three balls he failed to call for a strike he let his mustache throw. Scot Boras takes a Prince Fielder line drive to the head, having his bell rung his cold dead heart begins to pump again, and like the Grinch changes his world view. He talks Prince into a reasonable contract with the Brewers.
  12. Marcum hasn't thrown a single pitch in the organization, so I think it's way to early to say that he'll be very good. Who knows.. he may bust. Lawrie has all the tools to be a very good player with the chance to impact the Jays organization for a long time. But he may bust. I find it a bit unnerving that people jump down players throats when they are revealed to be jerks. They have been babied probably since their early teens, they have a bunch of money and haven't matured yet. I'm sure just about all our players are probably jerks in real life as well, we simply turn a blind eye to their actions because they are our jerks.
  13. I had Surly - Abrasive Ale. Double IPA, and it is really good. I'd say it's very similar to Pliney the Elder with over the top hop notes with massive tangerines with a hint of pine. Very good..
  14. I have to replay New Vegas. Apparently I made all the wrong decisions and ruined everyones life. Fun game though.
  15. That's one of my favorite Double IPAs .. hop slam. Its so smooth that it's dangerous, all of a sudden you go from zero to drunk because you drink them so fast.
  16. What kind of smart phone? That goes a long way in determining what they can see. Blackberries have a very extensive loggin capacity. While I don't recall them being able to look at emails from other applications, they can audit your web activity, text messages and phone calls easily.
  17. If there was a competition for smug self righteousness I would be the world champion.
  18. It might just be the ignitor coil that went bad. If it turns on, then shuts off a little later it's because it didn't detect a flame. We replaced our furnace 2 months ago, Carrier Performance 96 from Seider. Pretty happy with the results.
  19. Wow Dave! That's amazing. I just got out of debt 2 months ago thanks to the help of my wife. Paid off 32K in about 21 months.
  20. I'm firmly in the "I don't really like Belgians camp" (I can drink a bottle, but half way through it gets old to me). But I really enjoyed the Westy, when I finished the bottle I wanted another one. I can't say that for any other Belgians. Very balanced all around. I'm hoping a buddies new GF can score me some Abrasive Ale from Surly. That Double IPA I heard is stupid good.
  21. Trappist Westvleterent 8 - A buddy just recently went to Belgium and came back with a bunch of ultra rare beers. I'm not much of a fan of the style, but this was really good. Lots of malt, subtle fruit flavors followed by a nice dry finish. For not being a Belgian fan, I really liked this one. He also brought back a rare bottle of Chimay. I don't recall the name of the beer, but it had massive green apple notes, followed by a semi sweet finish. Very smooth clean drink.
  22. Just make sure you read the primers for each of the defensive stats. They express some of the problems with the stats and what to make of them.
  23. I wouldn't doubt it. I wonder if he's being talked about for trades.
  24. Where have you heard that they blend it with carbonated water? To achieve consistency, they probably blend batches together to get the same taste. Depending on the yeast generation, a lot can change in a beer. If you blend the generations together you get a more reliable beer.
  25. I don't know if you can say Hollidays defense is good. He's slow, so he may field balls well that he gets too. He gets to a lot less balls. Same thing is going to be true for Berkman. Rasmus (Assuming he stays a Card) is going to have to do a lot of running to make up for their shortfalls.
