  1. The Dodgers would be wise to dump Penny and I, for one, hope the Brewers stay away. He doesn't show a whole lot of determination on his days to go out there...last year he averaged 5 2/3 innings per start (6 the year before). July through September he only reached seven or more innings in a start a total of three times (7, 8, and 7). He's got good stuff, but I don't trust our bullpen enough to throw a starter out there who is pretty much guaranteed to log his five or six innings and step down once he's got a lead.
  2. Interesting point. My understanding is that Lind is not a centerfielder. So how does his status relate to Wells as much as it relates to Reed Johnson? Do the BlueJays have a centerfielder in the making to replace Wells? I guess, with John McDonald at the top of Toronto's depth chart at short, I see the point of potential desperation on their part, though. Then again, Pedroia might not show much more than Toronto's Hill or Adams. And looking at those teams production at short: Boston, .674 OPS; Toronto, .716...I can see how both teams might be desparate for improvement at short. I'm seeing Boston as more likely to land the free agent, and Toronto more likely to look for a trade, but I'm not sure I see the Brewers dealing Hardy. I have a good feeling about him this coming year.
  3. Longoria was drafted in June, started in the short season league and jumped to AA Montgomery, via Hi-A Visalia, in enough time to collect 105 AB! That's a remarkably accellerated progression! It's not that he didn't show he deserved it, but could there be something else behind the Rays push?
  4. Yes, he is well rounded offensively and defensively. Yes, he will give 400-500 very solid at bats to his club. But this is the guy who refused to play for Philadelphia before ever proving anything as a major leaguer! I don't see him considering Milwaukee. As someone else suggested, Boston's now-vacant right field looks like a good match.
  5. Corey Thurman is doing very well in Venezuela. In 5 games/5 starts, he is 2-1 with 5 BB, 28 SO and a 1.97 ERA in 32 IP. In his last start, Nov. 5th, he allowed five hits, no runs while recording 0 BB and 8 SO in 6 innings.
  6. Justin Lehr appears to have replaced Mike Jones on the Hermosillo Naranjeros roster. www.naranjeros.com/roster1.html This website has pages 'altas' and 'bajas' (which I'm translating to mean promoted/demoted) that show Lehr replacing Jones on November 3rd. Lehr pitched 5 shutout innings in his first game/first start on Nov. 3rd, with 2 Ks and 6 hits. Jones hadn't pitched since his not-so-memorable outing on Oct. 22.
  7. If Dotel is considering a Non-roster invitation to Spring Training with the Mets isn't there a team out there that would offer a little bit more? I have no idea of his health status and it may be that the best he can hope for is a NRI, but given the name I'd guess someone will bite on potential.
  8. On a somewhat similar note where do people suppose Matt Lawton will end up (if he's still playing)?
  9. I'm missing something in your criteria, here, with Erstad. Since he's a free agent this year do you suggest the Brewers pursue him?
  10. Not exactly a Gallardo - Sheets comparison, but THT put this article together looking at Yo, Phillip Hughes and Homer Bailey. www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/hughes-bailey-and-gallardo/ They are giving Bailey the edge in talent and skill, Hughes the edge being most likely to have early success (if he's with the Yankees, why not), and Gallardo's strength is his poise on the mound. Is their concern that he's racked up more innings any one else's?
  11. A Rod was paid $25.68 million this year and was booed. Jenkins was paid $7.833 million this year and was booed. $25.68 / .915OPS must be directionally proportional to $7.833 / .791OPS http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. That image is priceless. The Yankees batters cumulatively left 20 runners on base (7 team LOB, 4 runners in scoring position LOB). Not so clutch hitting, today.
  13. If your putting together a playoff team which of the four AL starting catchers would you choose? Posada and his post season success and experience? Rodriguez and his 11 gold gloves? Kendall and his .323 post all-star batting average? Mauer and his youth and batting title? Also, yesterday's Cardinals lineup, with Carpenter on the mound, must have been one of the tallest in postseason baseball history. They went: Eckstein 5'-7" Duncan 6'-5" Pujols 6'-3" Edmonds 6'-1" Rolen 6'-4" Encarnacion 6'-3" Belliard 5'-8" Molina 5'-11" Carpenter 6'-6"
