  1. I know it seems like he still should have power, but Hermida's line so far this year against RHP in the hitter-friendly PCL is only .247/.369/.409/.778. Doesn't look like he's got a whole lot of pop left.
  2. Do you already have your tickets? On a sunny summer evening, you definitely want to be on the 3B side, to watch the sunset reflect off the skyline. Gorgeous. Walking into the park from the RF gate (iirc, it's the main gate) is a sight to behold. The whole park just opens up right in front of you. I'm no lover of the Twins, but man do I love their ballpark!
  3. Think you're forgetting Peralta here. It's a nice problem to have, to be a Brewers fan & have so much quality starting pitching!
  4. Probably like pass interference in football, can't review a judgement call no matter how obviously wrong it is Which is stupid and another reason why instant replay is dumb [shakes head] EVERY close safe-out call is a judgment call. And you can challenge a close safe-out call... but just apparently not the lead part of a double play... or something.
  5. So I'm assuming you can't challenge that play? Because that was as easy to overturn as I've seen this season.
  6. And with his LEAD SLIDING FOOT! Normally the way that rule has to be examined is if the runner, two or three feet to either the right or left of second base, maybe could've stretched to reach the bag with his hand! Unreal call.
  7. Can you challenge that DP slide from Weeks? If so, it should be overturned.
  8. I hope we see a nice 8-pitch PA from Braun here. It'd be nice to see them drive up Kershaw's pitch count a bit.
  9. "Ryan Braun's 'Power Outage'" Or, you know, going oppo in Chavez Ravine at night.
  10. I'm guessing most teams around the league would happily take him off the Cards' hands. Especially if they'll be selling out of frustration with him.
  11. Nice! I wasn't able to watch the game last night... wish I would've caught some of it.
  12. Please note that the game preview write-ups I link regularly are done by MLB.com writers
  13. Whoops - I assumed that, but didn't read the Gameday preview page closely enough... 9:10 ET. Thanks for the correction!
  14. I again likely won't be able to add lineups to the lead post tonight. So to any other mod, please help get that updated -- thanks!
  15. Crew gets another crack at Kershaw Dodgers' ace looks to become Majors' second to 15 wins By Adam Lichtenstein / MLB.com | 8/16/2014 2:00 AM ET Teams have tried a multitude of strategies in their attempts to beat Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. When the Brewers faced him on Sunday, they opted to be aggressive on the basepaths. It didn't work. Although they put the leadoff man on base in four of the first five innings, they managed only one run as Kershaw picked up his 14th win of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.78. They'll get a second chance at the lefty on Saturday. Kershaw will try to become the Majors' second 15-game winner this season. Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto became the first on Friday. "I think any time you face a pitcher like Kershaw, if you try to just get stagnant, I don't think much is going to happen," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's tough to run against, but sometimes you think you need to do some things to try to create a few runs." The Brewers will have arguably their best pitcher on the mound to go against Kershaw, though. Yovani Gallardo has only seven wins this season, but he leads the staff in ERA among pitchers with more than 20 starts -- but not by much. Gallardo's 3.44 mark edges out Wily Peralta's 3.46 ERA by a hair. Gallardo hasn't faced the surging Dodgers this season, and in his career, he owns a 5.98 ERA in seven games against them. Brewers: Lohse to be skipped The Brewers announced that Kyle Lohse would be skipped over in his next scheduled start in order to give the right-hander's sprained right ankle time to heal. Lohse was originally scheduled to start against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, but Mike Fiers will now make the start. Fiers will be on regular rest thanks to the team's off-day on Monday. "I'm not exactly sure where [Lohse] goes back in," Roenicke said. "It will really depend on how the ankle is and where we see that he's close to 100 percent. He probably won't be 100 because once you sprain it -- but we want to get him to the point where we're comfortable with putting him out there." Lohse, who rolled his ankle during his Aug. 2 start against the Cardinals, has been a rock of the Brewers' rotation the last two seasons, going 22-17 with a 3.42 ERA in 57 starts. Dodgers: Ryu hitting disabled list Left-handed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is heading to the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain he suffered during Wednesday's start against the Braves, manager Don Mattingly said Friday. Ryu underwent an MRI and was examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Friday, and the MRI showed he had a grade 1-2 strain in his hip area. The Dodgers recalled reliever Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Ryu's spot. Mattingly said he's not sure what Ryu's timetable to return would be. "What we thought yesterday is pretty much what we know today," Mattingly said. "We'll know more in three, four, five days, what he's going to be able to do. This isn't an injury that they've seen a whole lot of." This is the second time Ryu has gone on the disabled list this season. He missed 20 games from April 28-May 21 with left shoulder inflammation. Kevin Correia will start in Ryu's place on Tuesday against Padres. Correia has already made one start for the Dodgers, going six innings and giving up one run against the Braves on Monday. Worth noting • The Dodgers acquired right-hander Justin Germano from the Rangers for future considerations on Friday. The Dodgers assigned German to Triple-A Albuquerque. • [TLB's note] And, oh yeah, some guy named Francisco Rodríguez tied some guy named Fingers for 11th in saves in MLB history. But that's probably not worth noting

  20. Greinke aims to snap skid vs. former clubs Righty coming off loss to Brewers; Nelson starts for Milwaukee By Caitlin Swieca / MLB.com | 8/14/2014 4:52 PM ET The Brewers will look to extend their winning streak against the Dodgers' Zack Greinke to three games when the two first-place clubs open a weekend series at Dodger Stadium on Friday. Greinke is winless in seven starts when facing his former teams, and he kept that record intact when he lost to the Brewers last Saturday at Miller Park. Milwaukee took two of three in the series to help preserve its grip on first place in the National League Central, and while the Brew Crew will face Greinke and Clayton Kershaw in the series' first two games, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was optimistic about his team's outlook for the weekend. "We know, especially with the next two guys, when they pitch and they're on their game, we know how tough it is to score runs," Roenicke said. "But we also know that our pitchers are throwing the ball well, so we feel like, with matchups and maybe a couple big plays here and there, and that's the difference between the games." The Brewers will counter Greinke with Jimmy Nelson, who will be making his sixth start since entering the rotation right before the All-Star break. Last Sunday against the Dodgers, Nelson earned a fourth straight quality start despite struggling with command, giving up only two runs over six innings and working out of several jams. This is the first time in Nelson's young career that he's faced the same team twice in a row, and while he said he's glad to have recent video of himself throwing to Los Angeles' lineup, he said he's more concerned with getting into a routine. "More so, sometimes when pitchers watch video, it's also to see our mechanical cues and fix anything mechanical that we're doing wrong," Nelson said. "I try not to overload it with information and scouting reports, because when it comes down to it, you've got to execute your pitches to do that more advanced stuff." Nelson said he's identified the mechanical issues that hampered him against the Dodgers as he worked into and out of several jams. "It's definitely mechanical. It's that, and it's mental," Nelson said. "It's not trying to do too much and just trusting my stuff, trying to get ground balls." Brewers: Regulars set for return to lineup After getting the day off on Thursday against Cubs righty Edwin Jackson, Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura are expected to play against the Dodgers on Friday. "Aramis needs the day off. Brauny needs the day off, too," Roenicke said before Thursday's game. "And then Seggy's been going out pretty good. He's been battling to get through these games and trying to stay mentally into them all the time." Braun has been bothered by a nerve issue in his right hand since last season, and the injury has flared up recently. Braun said he's mulling his options on how to treat it. "At this point, my only focus is dealing with it the best we can, managing it," Braun said. "The trainers have been great. We're trying to stay on the field and compete the best I can." Dodgers: Injured Hanley throws, but not swinging yet Hanley Ramirez has resumed physical activity after a strained right oblique muscle landed him on the disabled list on Sunday, retroactive to Saturday. However, the Dodgers' shortstop is not yet swinging a bat. "He did a little throwing [Wednesday], just a little bit of movement," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "This is Day 5, I think, and [trainer] Stan [Conte] hasn't said anything about him swinging the bat or anything yet. Just trying to make sure he's throwing, doing some stuff like that to stay active." Ramirez is batting .277 with 12 homers and 58 RBIs in 100 games this season. Worth noting • The Brewers have had at least a share of first place since April 5. • With his next save, Francisco Rodriguez will tie Rollie Fingers at No. 11 on the all-time saves list with 341.
