  2. Has it though? I don't think there's any evidence that it has. I mean, we have a rumored list of 90 more guys from the Biogenesis case alone. There's no way Biogenesis was the only place MLB players could get PEDs.
  3. I'm curious to hear takes on the Love/Wiggins+Bennett trade. Decent return for the T-Wolves?
  4. Peralta eyes 14th win; Peavy seeks first with Giants Brewers look to maintain grip on NL Central in matinee finale By Jackson Alexander / MLB.com | 8/7/2014 2:43 AM ET Sole possession of first place in the National League Central will be on the line for the Brewers on Thursday afternoon, when they complete a three-game series with the Giants. Milwaukee maintains a one-game lead over St. Louis after both teams lost Wednesday night. But a Cardinals win and Brewers loss Thursday would deadlock the teams atop the division. Milwaukee has had at least a share of first place since the fourth game of the season (April 4). Before Wednesday's loss, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he'd prefer his team to be protecting a lead rather than chasing the leaders. "If we were still pulling away like we were earlier, I probably wouldn't feel that way, but when you're kind of hanging on, not playing that well and you're seeing teams play well behind you, then it starts to make a difference," Roenicke said. Roenicke dismissed the notion of pressure wearing on a team that's spent four full months of the season in first place. "I don't think so. I think it helps them to still have a good feeling even though we've had a couple stretches we haven't played well and we're still in first place. I want to get back to playing that kind of ball where we keep slowly gaining," Roenicke said. Wily Peralta draws the assignment of attempting to keep Milwaukee alone in first place. Peralta holds a 9-1 record in his last 11 starts -- although the Brewers' offense deserves a lion's share of credit, as Peralta's ERA sits at 4.33 during that span. He claimed his 13th win of the season -- tied for the most in the Majors -- when Milwaukee clipped the Cardinals, 7-4, Friday. Peralta allowed two runs -- his fourth straight start allowing two or fewer runs -- in 6 2/3 innings. San Francisco counters with Jake Peavy, who makes his third start since joining the Giants on July 26 in a trade with the Red Sox. Peavy had an interesting second start with his new team Saturday. The right-hander took a perfect game into the seventh inning against the Mets, but he surrendered four runs on four hits in that frame and took the loss. "I have to make better pitches," said Peavy after losing his 11th straight decision. "I know I could have done more." Brewers: Lucroy at first base Roenicke knows All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy must receive the occasional respite from being behind the plate. He also knows the team needs his bat in the lineup, and that's precisely why Lucroy played first base Wednesday. "Can't take Luc out of the lineup with his bat," Roenicke said. "It does [help] physically. Mentally, sometimes, it does too, because of all the things he does calling the game back there. I think today's a good game to do it. We talked about doing it once the next series too. We may give Luc just a full day off the next series." It marked the eighth start at first for Lucroy, who's hitting .305 with 37 doubles, the second most in MLB. He finished 1-for-5 in the Brewers' 7-4 loss Wednesday. Giants: Pagan set for return San Francisco is expected to bolster its outfield with the return of Angel Pagan on Thursday. Pagan has missed the past 45 games with a lower back strain, but after rehab stints at Triple-A Fresno on Monday and Tuesday, he was scheduled to join the team late Wednesday night in Milwaukee. The center fielder has posted a solid .307/.356/.411 slash line in 262 plate appearances this season. Worth noting • Carlos Gomez has homered in the first two games of the series. • After a 3-for-5 night Wednesday, Pablo Sandoval has a seven-game hitting streak. He's hitting .414 over that stretch with two home runs and three doubles. Both homers came in the series with the Brewers.

  6. You weren't kidding. Great read!
  7. That's funny -- I'm the exact opposite. I'm obviously really fired up at the start of the season, but kinda fade off a little in late May/early June. Come mid-July or so, I can't get enough. I love these meaningful games in the dog days of summer... hopefully followed by even more meaningful games in September & October!
  8. Gallardo aiming to keep firing zeros against Giants Vogelsong looking to prevent Crew from securing series victory By Jackson Alexander / MLB.com | 8/6/2014 1:00 AM ET Yovani Gallardo looks to extend his 16 2/3 scoreless-innings streak against the Giants on Wednesday night in the middle game at Miller Park. Gallardo enters his start fresh off a pair of scoreless outings. The first came on July 25, when he held the Mets scoreless in 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, zero walks with eight strikeouts in the Crew's 3-2 loss. Last Wednesday, he blanked the Rays over seven frames, again surrendering just four hits. He walked one batter and struck out five. The right-hander also owns a strong history of success against San Francisco. Of Gallardo's nine career starts vs. the Giants, eight have been quality starts. Gallardo aims to push the Brewers to 10-8 after the All-Star break. After drawing Adam Wainwright and John Lackey in their previous series, the Brewers see former National League Cy Young Award winners Tim Lincecum (in Tuesday's 4-3 win) and Jake Peavy (Thursday's starter) against the Giants. Then, Milwaukee will face a Dodgers' pitching staff, which held the best ERA in the Majors before Tuesday's action. "We know we've got good pitchers in this series, certainly," manager Ron Roenicke said. "I'm sure the Dodgers are throwing some pretty good arms against us too. I thought we've had better at-bats lately. Maybe the run total doesn't always show that, but I think at-bats have been better, and I'm hoping that carries over into this series." The Brewers' 4-3 win over the Giants on Tuesday night marked the beginning of a six-game home stretch. Their previous six games were on the road. "We knew the road trip was going to be tough with arms, and we come right back and face tough arms again," Roenicke said. "And that's difficult when you're looking at trying to maintain what you're doing and you look at the pitchers you're facing, in our [NL Central] division especially. I know we've got these good arms coming here, but our division's tough, and those arms don't get easier." San Francisco calls on right-hander Ryan Vogelsong for Wednesday's start. Vogelsong twirled his first career complete game on Friday against the Mets, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five in the Giants' 5-1 victory. "It's been weighing on me for a while," Vogelsong said after the start. Brewers: Injuries hampering position players Second baseman Scooter Gennett (left quad) and left fielder Khris Davis (left elbow) were not in the lineup on Tuesday. Gennett's injury has kept him in and out of the lineup for the last few weeks, while Davis' issue just flared up on Tuesday morning. Rickie Weeks replaced Gennett in the lineup and finished with a double and a walk, while new addition Gerardo Parra slugged his first home run with the Brewers. Giants: Sandoval stays hot Pablo Sandoval had his second straight big game at the plate for the Giants in their loss on Tuesday. Sandoval smacked a three-run homer off Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson, after going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles in San Francisco's 4-3 triumph over the Mets on Monday. The Giants' third baseman holds a six-game hitting streak. Worth noting • Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy slid into second place among MLB hitters for doubles with a pair on Tuesday, giving him 37 for the season. He trails only Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt, who has 39, but his season is likely over due to a fractured left hand. • Giants outfielder Hunter Pence has the most experience against Gallardo, logging 31 at-bats in his career against Milwaukee's starter. He's hitting .226 against him.

  10. I didn't read the article... but was Byrd suspended because it is viewed as a masking agent?
  11. Great play by Weeks. He had to get past/around the runner & deliver a strong, accurate throw... and he did!
  12. Was it somebody's sig once upon a time (or still)? -- 'Pence runs like a baby giraffe that got tasered' Or something like that. Awesome sig.
  13. I don't. He's easily one of the best defensive outfielders in the league imo. Not sure why you bring up Davis. He has nothing to do with my opinion of Parra.
  14. I don't know if it does, but it absolutely should. It's blocking the base(path) without the ball. By the letter of the law, it's obstruction... but I don't think it ever gets called.
  15. Imo Parra passes the eye test very well in the OF. I don't buy whatever the defensive stats are selling on him. Great instincts, good speed, great glovework, & a great arm. You may be right that Taylor winds up as the big-league CF post-Gomez, but imo it'd be a really nice surprise if he's actually even better defensively (heck, or equal to) than Parra. I think Parra is in the same defensive tier, or just one tier below, the Gomezes of the MLB world. I think the Brewers could potentially extend Parra at a pretty reasonable rate, & obviously he could play any of the 3 OF spots going forward. It'd give the club a lot of flexibility.
  16. Smooth pop-up sliding catch at an awkward part of the wall too. Impressive in an outfield he's not familiar with. Great point. What a nice addition, and frankly he could wind up being the club's CF once Gomez inevitably moves on either via FA or trade. I think Parra could be a guy the Crew could extend affordably.
  17. Wasn't Marlon Byrd already suspended at one point? Maybe I am making that up. I'm just hoping it's not any Brewers. Not that I care in the least about the actual act, but would rather not have the distraction during the stretch run. Yep, in 2012
