  1. 1. 1992 Brewers. So you were a kid. One of my 3 favorite Brewer teams. Edit for clarification: Brewers offense was pretty good, 5th in the AL in runs scored despite hitting a whopping 82 HR as a team (!). Different world. Pitching-wise 1st in ERA, 2nd in ERA+. Fielding hard to say. They were pretty good though from memory (FWIW). Above average. I agree with everything else you said...good points. For some reason the first thing I think of with the early 90's teams is that Bill Wegman videoscreen (as in, projector technology) batting cage at County Stadium. Definitely my childhood era. When I was in grade school, one time in my dentist's waiting room I realized Tom Treblehorn was sitting there too. I chickened out on saying anything to him. I like the add of Bradley. Seems like a good versatile player on a low risk deal. I agree with others, & like the idea of a 4-man OF rotation for a lot of reasons. I do worry about our offense, & wonder if Stearns has anything up his sleeve for 3B.
  2. We've got em right where we want em! Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
  3. Need a post from Fatter than Joey and two live brew. Wow! Alright, this is my 'Rally from down 3 to win' post!
  4. He's also only 19, & listed at 6'3"/185. I don't think it's out of the question that he could add muscle & velo in the years to come.
  5. Reese Olson was looking sharp in relief until he took a laser-liner off his pitching arm. Looked like it got him right above the elbow, and he was in real pain. He came off right away, the trainer examining him on the mound was basically a formailty. Prior to that, he had a heavy-sounding FB working well around 94-95. Hope he's ok
  6. Lazar through 4 scoreless, FB has been operating 86-88, breaking ball (I assume CB?) 73-76. He's been controlling the breaking ball as well or better than the FB. So far he's been hit really hard once, an absolute bomb in the 3rd that was barely foul, almost flew over the LF foul pole. And I mean like 50'+ vertically above it. He got lucky on that one, but has otherwise been good this far.
  7. Heading to the T-Rats opener today! Looking forward to it & seeing Turang.
  8. Wow. That's the most glowing scouting review I've seen of Woodruff, by a country mile. Let's hope Prinstein is right!
  9. I remember that logo launch very well, and remember hating it. This is 100% anecdotal, but I also can't remember one person I knew that liked the new logo. That was a terrible decision by the franchise imo.
  10. I don't like it. Build something now instead of living in the past. If this team wasn't dog crap for 25 years, nobody would be as vocal about bringing the logo back but since it was the logo when the Brewers had their first (and basically only) success until recently, people seem attached to it. Cut the cord. 100% not true for me. I think it's a great logo because I think it's a great logo. No connection to their W-L record at any point. I also love the white with blue pinstripes, & agree with others about the road grays with script Milwaukee being awesome. I just think they had the logo & uniform look & feel nailed during those years.
  11. Good point on some of those other NL West parks. I remember when the Cards acquired Holliday, he also had a road OPS that made me skeptical he'd still be a force away from Coors. Some guys are just legit hitters, & I think Arenado's one of them.
  12. Both he & CC said it was absolutely nothing to worry about, & not an injury update. They said they wouldn't have had anything to report or say about it if they weren't asked directly about JN's status. The doom & gloom was mostly self inflicted by fans. I get being skeptical of injury reports (I am myself a lot of the time), but this was one that they went out of their way to clarify as a non-issue.
  13. Interesting contract, & I wonder if we'll start to see more of these (not necessarily just in arb buy-out scenarios) Hicks has developed into a very good hitter. Yankees look like they maxed out buying low on a physically talented guy who hadn't put together MLB success at the plate yet - they basically paid nothing via trade with MIN. He has an offensive profile that should typically carry a .360-.370 OBP with some pop. Very nice BB/K ratio, and it mirrors the MiLB numbers he posted as he developed, so it looks sustainable imo. Maybe not an out & out star, but a very nice core player.
  14. What are your thoughts on the percentage of revenues generated by MLB and its players that go to team owners?
  15. Locking this up. Per Ken Rosenthal, Moose has signed a 1-yr deal.to return to the Brewers. Please continue any discussion in the MLB Forum thread: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=38129
  16. While not infallible by any stretch, FanGraphs' $ values help put some perspective on what investing in Harper may mean. Even with a down 2016, missing a good chunk of 2017, & a bad first half of 2018, his average $ value over the past 4 seasons was $41mm. For the past 3 years (if you want to treat his insane 2015 as an outlier for the sake of discussion), it was $29.9mm. So even just looking at a stretch that includes two or three problematic seasons -- addressing the point about risk in investing $30mm/yr -- he's generally produced that amount annually. And -- not saying you're stating we should ignore his huge upside like 2015 -- in his case I don't think it's wise to dismiss the talent & huge upside as outliers. For all the valid concerns about consistency & durability, I think you can make an argument that he is easily worth a $30mm/yr salary. Which seems crazy, but actually looks reasonable imo. There's risk like any long term deal - even a more team friendly one like Braun's. But if I'm Harper, there is no way I'm letting suitors tell me I'm not worth $30mm a year.
  17. Wish the very best for Mr. Vogt! We'll always have the march madness referee impression. https://twitter.com/Starting9/status/974306041277149184?s=19
  18. But will the "Miley" comp have the staying power of the "Suppan" comp? Asking the important questions.
  19. Inactive List could work... but then again, Injured List should be just fine
  20. Of course. Submariners - market inefficiency
  21. Just hand this man the MVP right now. Gonna be a good year! That was a fun watch!
  22. Interesting idea JMB, and I was surprised to see that Jones actually has had reverse splits - career .791 OPS v RHP & .728 v LHP. So he might not be the best option to cover the RH batting side of platoon duties. EDIT: Another idea - Carlos Gomez? He also doesn't set the world on fire against lefties, and obviously didn't hit well last season. But I wonder if he might be a good roll of the dice. He found his groove again with the Rangers, and I wonder if coming back to a familiar place in Miller Park might help him. Just a thought. Austin Jackson is another buy-low RH OF option to think about. And Chris Young actually has a strong split in favor of LH pitching.
