  1. I don't see any evidence of the bolded. Castro was a bad contract and the only guy they've traded. I'll be surprised if they deal from that strength with the possible exception being trading Soler for a similarly young, controllable pitcher.
  2. Agree that he's a little overrated, but the Cubs have plenty of money, so that mitigates it at least somewhat. You'd have to think they'll trade Soler for young, cheap pitching now and pursue a real center fielder. I don't think Heyward in center is going to work out very well. They have so much hitting they just need someone that can play defense.
  3. You should try this approach next time. It would've been a good, positive read. What are you even talking about? What did I say that was so terrible?
  4. I think what 502 is saying is that you really have no idea what GMs were offering. I think it's silly to rip these international prospects that are all ~18 years old because they're not on a top 30 list yet, but even if that is granted, the main point is that people are angry and believe that they knew a better offer was on the table. That's what he was getting at. The Peterson/Zunino rumors were out there among others, and those rumors have snowballed into the theory for many that they KNEW something like that was out there from several teams and that they also are of the opinion that that offer is clearly better than what he got. Again, the latter part of that (thinking that the package the Brewers got was inferior to the artificial offers) is annoying to me, but OK. It's the fact that people believe that they know something was better out there that is interesting. I've seen a few/talked to a few people thinking it was a crappy return and that Stearns should have waited longer, etc. You really have no idea. It is entirely possible that he messed up the timing and picked the wrong return, but I tend to believe that the offers out there were way lower than some believe...and when once criticizes, they seem to do so KNOWING that there was a better offer out there (in their mind). That's it. Well said.
  5. Maybe some just wanted a different type of package for Lind? I don't think I've seen a poster pretend to know what was truly on the table but I do always enjoy self righteous posts. Hope it made you feel better. Yeah, you should re-read the thread then. I agree with 502 that that facet of this discussion has been obnoxious.
  6. The ages of these guys seem to be lost in a lot of these posts. There is so much projection involved, that a lot of what they've done is almost irrelevant. And that includes not growing to their full heights.
  7. Great move. Probably won't be a part.of the team the next time they're good, but he could be. Loving me some Stearns right now.
  8. Because he's not. And, yes, I know you know that.
  9. I personally couldn't care less how many games the Brewers win over the next 3 years as long as the farm remains in good shape, the young guys are playing and our future payroll is clean.
  10. i dont know that you can say he flopped in the few ABs he had, but he STILL had value, and because another play for our system. thats the point, he was still an asset, on top of knebel and Diplan. none of these three can be flipped for anything because they dont have value. Maybe they could be flipped for a 3WAR 1b. Your knowledge of their value is the same as the rest of ours, which is to say very little.
  11. Look at it this way. There is more than enough salary room to bring Prince Fielder back. Maybe they'll make a run at Chris Davis now and corner the market on them. I know I'm dreaming but it's a lot better than reality. My God, what a horrifying thought that is. I guess we're reversed on this, as I had the same thought you did in your previous post about what to do for evenings in April. Only I had it 4 years ago. Now I can watch a team that isn't hell-bent on winning 85 games for no real reason. Thank God.
  12. I find it incredibly easy to get excited. I'd much rather have a lottery ticket than 4A type players. If Stearns does it right, we aren't winning anything this year or next year anyway. What I don't want is a bunch of 82 win season, personally.
  13. Gohara seems like a given at this point. Hope you're right. Anything after him is gravy to me.
  14. Problem is Miller isn't "big". If they had sent these guys to Miami, I'd agree with you.
  15. He doesn't profile to fit very well in that launching pad they play in. I'll be surprised if he's even average there. One of the worst trades in memory imo. Guess we'll see, but sure seems like an incredible overpay to me.
  16. Just awful for Arizona. A slightly above average pitcher for that package? Good luck with that, guys.
  17. I'm not sure how precise you meant to be here, but subjecting noncitizens to deportation merely for being charged with crimes would work a huge change in the law. The Immigration and Nationality Act makes noncitizens deportable upon conviction for certain classes of crimes. Charging and conviction, of course, are two very different things. If you did mean to advocate this change, I would strongly disagree, for all the standard process reasons (and I'm a hawk on domestic violence). Completely agree. It would take a conviction in my book.
  18. What a world we live in where a stiff like this can get $36mm guaranteed.
  19. True enough, but Roache isn't really much of a prospect (in my mind at least). I'd be floored if he was selected.
  20. I can't envision a scenario where Roache is selected. He is in no way ready to be on the big leagues and his upside isn't high enough to warrant the roster spot.
  21. Got a potentially useful player for nothing. Works for me.
  22. Very possibly my least favorite pitcher to ever watch pitch.
