  1. That's not really the point, he might have been there at #41... I don't have problem with the Brewers taking who they thought was the best talent, the problem I have is that he blew them away in the workout. When was the last time one of the players who wow'd in their workout with the Brewers actually was that good? There's actually a rather long list of failures there... I'm cautiously optimistic at this about the pick, I wanted a lefty, I got a lefty even though he wasn't one of my guys. Evan Fredrickson. Oh wait. That isn't good.
  2. Not all Brewers fans. Edit: The first part is me. Only because they were extremely low ceiling guys.
  3. I don't hate it. I don't love it either.
  4. *cringes* I think that would be a reach.[/quote Like him a lot at 41. Not so much at 12.
  5. Let's hope not. Toussaint s'il vous plait.
  6. I honestly don't get why Nola is projected so high. I hope he's gone by the Brewers' pick, and it certainly appears he will be. I've had enough limited upside college pitchers in the top 1/2 of the first round for one lifetime. Gimme Touissant please.
  7. Drag Winkelsas off his garbage route for an encore.
  8. Peralta's second half differed from his first half due to luck. His FIP in the first half was 4.32 and in the second it was 4.26. He K'd more batters but started give up a bunch more fly balls leading to home runs. ZiPs FIPs projections: Garza: 3.65 Estrada: 3.75 Gallardo: 3.75 Lohse: 4.09 Smith: 4.10 Peralta: 4.36 Given that putting Peralta in AAA can buy another year of his prime, Smith pitching allows for a left hander in the rotation, and it allows for both Thornburg and Peralta remain stretched out to come to Milwaukee when a starter goes down; Peralta in Nashville makes perfect sense. I agree with this, although in a perfect world I would've just not signed Garza and let both Peralta/Thornburg and Smith start.
  9. It's about time something like this happens. IF it happens.
  10. Amen brother. I hate having this piece of crap on our team.
  11. Thank God we signed Kyle Lohse. We won 74 games. I personally would've preferred letting the young guys take their lumps and who cares what the record was. 65 wins instead of 74? What's the difference? Although as stated in the Garza thread, with Seid making the pick it probably didn't matter anyway.
  12. While I disagree with you, I understand your opinion. This deal would be so beneficial for the Brewers on multiple levels, provided Garza remains injury free. While on paper the Brewers in 2014 may look like at most an 85 win team, they could conceivably play a little above their head and reach close to 90 wins. I don't think they have a shot at this without Garza. Now they could also play below average and win 77 games. Garza's contract, provided health and pitching to his form, is a very trade able contract and could bring back multiple prospects, see the Cubs-Rangers deal last season. I just see this as a win-win deal. I guess. As I said what I think really doesn't matter so I might as well deal in reality. Since we have the owner we have (and, to be clear, I'm glad we have him, I just wish he'd approach talent development differently), and we're going to make moves like this, I agree that this is a good risk. It's certainly fair $ wise and he's a very talented guy.
  13. Amen. Of course I hope this deal falls through and we sign no one, so I'm clearly in the minority there. Why? My opinion is basically worthless because I despise how this franchise does business. Signing players (particularly pitchers) to big dollar contracts when you're clearly undermanned to begin with is insanity in my opinion. What does Garza do over a 4 year span? There's no help coming and we're clearly not in the top 3 in the division with him, nor will we likely be during his contract. Just because our payroll was $88M last year doesn't mean it has to be this year. What I would love to see is the whole scouting department gutted, get someone in there who knows what they're doing, add $ to Latin scouting/signings and draft and develop like a small market team should. None of which matters because it won't happen.
  14. I'd rather we burn the pick by signing a player that has proven he can play in MLB than burn it by allowing Bruce Seid to make the selection. Amen. Of course I hope this deal falls through and we sign no one, so I'm clearly in the minority there.
  15. Naw.....that couldn't be it.
  16. Texas was really staring at a problem not only for their DH/1b but for a #4/5 power hitter in their lineup. No more Lance Berkman to try to turn to. Nelson Cruz has to be a tough signing as you're essentially saying to your fan base we accept/support cheaters of baseball. So then Texas is left with aging Beltre and a questionable Mitch Moreland(of .232/.299/.437) for batters who hit over 15HRs last season on their team. For the far superior middle infield tandem of Profar/Andrus, those two won't combine for 15HRs and questionable if they even .725OPS. And that is what Texas is filled with Maybe .750 at best Batters surrounding Beltre. Prince and all 162 games of his .900 expected OPS self is a must have for them. And whether that is at 1b or DH either or, they needed to fill that spot in the lineup long term with someone who is capable of .800+OPS to bat behind Beltre. Other aspects is the idea of Kinsler in the OF or playing 1b to accomodate Profar. Maybe Kinsler like Khris Davis just shown a poor ability to do it? Maybe he told them to shove it after awhile on the idea. I just don't get how this is an awful deal for Texas when they have zero long term solutions for 1b/DH aside from as mentioned above, Moreland and his .299OB/.736OPS to protect Beltre in the lineup? Or Alex Rios to protect Beltre in that lineup. Neither aren't great options. Prince fills it and at the same time likely secures Texas their #4 batter for the next 5 seasons. Again something they were staring at with nobody who projects to join their team anytime soon. Wouldn't it be sad for Texas to live in a Hitters ballpark for HRs and fill their lineup with batters who don't have power? May as well move the fences back 40feet to actually fit their Home Team and not fit the majority of their Opponents Lineups? Prince changes that....Also just think the state of that lineup if Beltre pulled an 2013 ARam next season? I understand your points but I would've gone in a different direction. Really any direction. Fielder's contract is that terrible to me.
  17. I don't understand the Rangers at all. Really bad deal for them IMO. 7/138 for Fielder is not a good contract to have, let alone giving up Kinsler for him. Kinsler isn't a great bargain either, but if they wanted to deal him, they could've gotten something of value. Maybe not a lot of value, but he's not a net negative. I wouldn't take Fielder at that price for free. Wouldn't even consider it.
  18. I'd easily rather have Miller than Price. And I wouldn't trade Segura for either.
  19. Nope. I don't have that much faith in Miller going forward.
  20. You're right. I was sure he was a free agent after '14. That changes what I said 100%. trwi is right. Price will fetch more than Shields. mea culpa.
  21. I'm sorry that's just not even close to getting it done. Look at what Shields, a lesser pitcher than Price got them. Myers - Way better than anything you're offering Odorizzi - On par with Nelson Montgomery - Really high ceiling, kind of a wild card with his injury history Leonard - Meh, Davis is better but that doesn't come close to making up for the rest of the package. Price will fetch at least what Shields got and should fetch more. I disagree with you on that. KC got 2 years of Shields. Price only has 1 left. And over a 3 year span Price really hasn't been much better if at all. Obviously his '12 was a lot better but Shields was better this year and in '11. Also, to whoever said Profar & Perez, that's crazy. 1 year of Price isn't getting you that package.
  22. Rickie Weeks can't. Mike Cameron couldn't either batting in the middle of the Brewer order despite over 20 HR. Geesh, can't you guys just get off your high horses every time RBI is mentioned? So lets do away with it being part of winning a triple crown then. My point was Francisco needs to be very productive offensively to offset his poor defense. That's regardless of what stat you look at as a measurement of productivity. I just threw RBI out there. I could have just as easily said he needs to slug close to .500. That wasn't the point but thanks for jumping on it anyway. Getting back to Francisco, regardless he should never start a game against a lefty. He's never hit a HR off one in more than 100 PA. So if he's the guy at 1B next year, he'll need a platoon partner. Where do I sign? RBIs.....
  23. I liked Schroeder last night: Anderson: Lefties batting .119 vs. Chapman. Schroeder: You know what that tells me Brian? That lefties are due against Chapman. Me: Facepalm Of course Aoki immediately singled, and I can just imagine Schroeder nodding his head. What a dope.
