Holy Crap. For a closer? Good god that's awful for Boston. Which means I love it.

Simmons is a generational defender for sure. He's not a good hitter though, let's not kid ourselves. Having said that, I like it for the Angels. They didn't give up much seemingly.
  3. StearnsFTW
Yeah I guess that's fair. He definitely managed better this postseason as you said. He's still a boob though.
  4. StearnsFTW
Why on Earth would anyone be happy for Yost? That makes zero sense to me.
  5. StearnsFTW
Go Mets. I don't want to live in a world where Ned has a ring as a manager.

Lol. I wish. It'll be the best tasting crow I've ever eaten if we can dump him.

I don't think (could be wrong, haven't read too deep) that anyone is suggesting just dumping Garza and eating the rest of his contract. That would be a really bad move at this point in his deal -- completely different situation and point in his career and contract than Lohse. The debate the way I understand it is whether or not we would let Garza walk for nothing (I would) in the event that someone claimed him off waivers in August and thus was willing to take on the rest of his contract like Rios in 2009 (unlikely). This. 100 %.

What would be the point? The Brewers cut salary for next season as it is. If/when Lind gets moved, they have only Garza, Braun and KRod making over $5 m and KRod may get moved. I'd rather have Garza try to return to form to be able to trade for something of value instead of passing more money to the Brewer owners. I think Garza is done. So I'm all in favor of moving him if possible. I'm struggling to understand why anyone would want to keep him. I guess if you think he could be resurrected that makes some sense, but I don't see that at all. I'd be thrilled if they could dump his contract.

Alex Rios in 2009. Wasn't that some closer going to or from San Diego once, too, a number of years prior to Alex Rios? I was thinking it was Randy Myers, but checking baseball-reference.com, it was someone else. Without looking, Mark Davis maybe? He was terrible after Kansas City gave him the big contract after his huge 89 season with the Padres. On topic, Garza is horrible and one can only hope someone would claim him. Not gonna happen though. He has severe negative value.
  11. StearnsFTW
Only 5 outfielders changed hands and we got 3 of them. Huh.
  12. StearnsFTW
If someone is dumb enough to claim Garza, you thank them heartily and move on.

I think these trades make us right around 10th overall system-wise. Using ba's rankings, no system has more 50 grade players than us. Top end is a little light, but the depth is excellent.
  14. StearnsFTW
Yeah, Haniger isn't and never was anything special. 4th OF? Maybe. I think it's pretty obvious we're in rebuild mode. We weren't a year ago. We are now. I don't get why that's difficult to understand. As zman said, Lucroy and Braun may be on the table as well, we have no idea. I'm assuming Braun is a sunk cost, but who knows?
  15. StearnsFTW
    Very happy with this return.
  16. StearnsFTW
All star level players this season who were brewers prospects - Cain, Fielder, Braun, Brantley, Gallardo, Escobar, Lucroy and others like Odorizzi, Lawrie, Hardy who are every day players or starting pitchers. I am probably missing a few. A farm system is not good right now but it has not been bad in terms of producing talent. Just short on starting pitching An IF of Lucroy, Fielder, Lawrie, Escobar, and Hardy with an OF of Braun, Cain and Brantley is pretty impressive. Gallardo, Odorizzi, Fiers, Estrada (not sure he counts) and Peralta with Jungmann and Nelson isn't impressive but is serviceable. The system has been bad forever. It deserves ridicule.
  17. StearnsFTW
Are people actually ragging Keith Law for not liking Brewers prospects? I'd say he's been vindicated since Brewers prospects have generally sucked for 3 decades
  18. StearnsFTW
Well I bought the Phillips jersey with no #. 34 isn't an option so I'll add the # later. Yes, I'm a dork.
  19. StearnsFTW
I wish I knew what # Phillips was going to wear. I'm at the game and would absolutely buy the first Phillips jersey ever made.
  20. StearnsFTW
I liked the Mets package, but I strongly prefer this one. And I couldn't care less about Fiers.

I doubt he's doing this to "keep his job" considering the owner is the one that has a major hand in firing him as well as must OK the team adding $75 million in future payroll (factoring in that Reyes is gone). You do? Ok. He's traded everything that isn't nailed down in an attempt to make the playoffs. And almost certainly the 1 game playoff. Yeah, the owner had to sign off, but Anthopolous came up with this garbage. One of the more ridiculous trade deadlines I can recall for a team that wasn't and isnt a contender. Their pitching still stinks.
  22. StearnsFTW
Man is Anthopoulos a boob. Always has been. Nice of him to completely gut their farm system in a desperate attempt to keep his job.
  23. StearnsFTW
That team is going nowhere. They can't hit.
  24. StearnsFTW
Lol. He profiles closer to Yuni than Miggy huh? Wow. Way to go out on a limb. His power potential makes him an intriguing 3b candidate. This was an excellent trade and I'm sorry it fell through. Wheeler obviously being the bigger part of it.
  25. StearnsFTW
    They should be. Moss sucks.
