  1. I've seen knuckleballers throw harder than this. In fact, I've seen little leaguers throw harder than this. Incredible. ~Bill
  2. Chris Hammond vs. Left-handed hitters in 2005: 22 AB, .045/.080/.091, 171 OPS Um, wow. EDIT: And he does it with a 50mph fastball. ~Bill
  3. That just sums up the Brewers-- a strikeout on Greene and he is now standing on 2nd because of BAD baseball by the Brew Crew. You were saying... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Nice turn and throw there by Miller to atone for his error. Runs, lets get some now. ~Bill
  4. Falkenborg is pretty good. Check out his career stats: thebaseballcube.com/playe...borg.shtml Last year's meltdown sticks out like a sore thumb (or knee, as that is apparently what was wrong with him). I wouldn't mind giving him a chance as a fifth starter... he's gotta be better than Darrell May - the Pads should give him a shot. ~Bill
  5. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Peavy. ~Bill
  6. Wow. He hasn't been the same since he had surgery, but the potential he showed in Milwaukee is hard to forget. In any case, best of luck to Matt - I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere. ~Bill
  7. The Brewers successfully inked Derek Miller! SIGNINGS: Today, the Brewers announce the signing of LHP Derek Miller, the 47th round draft pick from 2004 . . . Miller just completed his senior season at Vermont University where he went 7-3 with a 2.35 ERA in 88 ip . . . he allowed just 62 hits, issued 25 walks and struck out 103 . . . the left-handers stands at 6-1 and weighs 210 pounds . . . Miller was signed to a contract with the Helena Brewers, and will report to Phoenix and join the extended spring training program. That's from today's media notes. Sweet! ~Bill
  8. Public Service Announcement: This game is on Telemundo. Mute the TV and crank up Bob and Jim for a good old fashioned baseballcast. ~Bill
  9. A question for batman and others, is that in the last 25 years, how many pitchers have been able to hit that true 100 (in the majors). I don't think there's a definitive list, but here are a few good links: Why can't anyone throw a baseball faster than 100 mph? - Noam Scheiber for Slate.com Fastest Pitcher in Baseball - The Baseball Almanac The Hardest Stuff - Pat Jordan in the NYT The number of 100mph pitchers is very, very small. EDIT: What was the name of that guy on the Orioles who came up around 98-99 who could throw 100? I totally forgot his name... You're probably thinking of Jorge Julio. ~Bill
  10. just got back from the game and turnbow hit 105 on the in house gun, I was wondering if anyone that watched the game knew what the speed of the pitch after their was a questionable ball called. The highest he hit on the FSN gun was 100, which he did once. Everything else was 94-99. ~Bill
  11. Pwnzored! 13 of the last 16 at home... that's awesome. ~Bill
  12. C'mon, Turbo... get a groundball. ~Bill
  13. 100, baby... yikes. Good night, Ensberg. ~Bill
  14. Hi, this site is all about [Derrick Turnbow], REAL CLOSER. This site is awesome. My name is [bill] and I can't stop thinking about [Derrick Turnbow]. [He] is cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet. Facts: 1. [Derrick Turnbow] is a mammal. 2. [Derrick Turnbow] [strikes people out] ALL the time. 3. The purpose of [Derrick Turnbow] is to flip out and [strikeout] people. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif ~Bill
  15. LOL, I heart Willy Taveras. ~Bill
  16. I hate LOOGYs. Is there anything more boring than watching three pitchers face three hitters? Franco got Overbay, though, so Garner's decision is vindicated, even if he's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Lyle's really struggling. Maybe he needs to slice open his face again to get things back on track... ~Bill
  17. There's that Garner logic we know and love. Indeed. I agree with you that he doesn't look so hot in the dugout, either... he looks like he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. On an unrelated note, Cirillo is a great bunter, eh? Counsell was one of the best I've ever seen but Cirillo is darned good... he should bunt for a basehit more often. ~Bill
  18. Phelps hasn't pitched in a week and Santana was warming up tonight and has been used a lot, so I'm guessing Phelps is headed for Nashville. It's a shame, 'cause he's actually pitched very well, but he would be the reliever I'd opt to DFA/demote, too. Jorge needs more high leverage innings... he's not going to get better sitting in the bullpen. ~Bill
  19. Jorge De La Rosa owns the universe. We're all just renting space. Boo yah. ~Bill
  20. That lee slide was crazy.....i could have seen an ump calling that interference..... I love Carlos, but that was a pretty dirty "slide". If someone did that to one of our players, I'd be pretty upset. Well, unless it was Junior Spivey maybe. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  21. Cool article about the D+F process from Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com: milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...;fext=.jsp It includes a tiny little Darren Ford mention, too. ~Bill
  22. From McCalvy: The Brewers signed two more "draft-and-follow" players in the build-up to the June 7-8 First-Year Player Draft. The players were 18-year-old right-hander Matt Kretzschmar, Milwaukee's 22nd-round pick last year, and 20-year-old right-hander Josh Louis, the team's 42nd-round pick. EDIT: Here's an interesting article from the Los Angeles Times profiling Kretzschmar from almost exactly a year ago to the day. At the time, he was a prep star at California's San Pedro High School. ~Bill
  23. Here's the latest from Gammons (I know, not BA, but close enough): sports.espn.go.com/mlb/ga...id=2066185 "When the draft begins on June 7, Chesapeake, Va., shortstop/center fielder Justin Upton, University of Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon, Long Beach State shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and University of Virginia third baseman Ryan Zimmerman will, barring some unforeseen development, be the first four players selected, by, in order, Arizona, Kansas City, Seattle and Washington." Apologies if this was mentioned elsewhere. ~Bill
  24. From the MLB.com Notes: Brewers sign draft pick: On Monday, the Brewers announced the signing of outfielder Lorenzo Cain, who was the team's 17th-round draft pick in 2004. Cain, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitter, graduated from Madison County (Fla.) High School last spring and recently completed his first year at Tallahassee Community College. Cain will report to Phoenix for extended Spring Training. Good news! ~Bill
  25. Did Miller and Magruder take bats with them to the plate in the 7th? In his defense, Magruder got jobbed on a pitch that was well outside. ~Bill
