  1. Cold + Rain = I don't think this game is going to happen. www.weather.com/activitie...d=USCA0987 But we'll see. ~Bill
  2. The wind was blowing *out* to left, wasn't it? In any case, Victor looked awesome... he's brushing the haters off, Milton Bradley style. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  3. Incidentally, nobody calls it "Fullerton State." What are you talking about, Fan of the Brewers from California's Southern? I think the Brewers will take Cameron Maybin if he's available... I just can't see Jack Z passing him up. Zimmerman seems like a very good possibility, too, though... he would be my preference between those two. And Gammons is quoting an unnamed GM, so hopefully he didn't just make this up. ~Bill
  4. Good post, shelmark... I thought about that a little bit on Monday when Perez was pitching and the whole team seemed lost. They aren't taking "professional" approaches at the plate... a lot of guys are swinging early in the count on pitches that they certainly don't seem to be "keyed" on, and many are taking pitches later in counts that are hit-me-fastballs right down the middle. Clark has been the exception, but even his ABs haven't been as crisp lately. It seems to me like a preparation problem... they don't seem mentally ready. It's not like we've been facing nobodies in the Cards' trio and Perez and Oswalt, but the hitters shouldn't be completely lost... it's not like these are new/unknown pitchers. They just seem utterly unprepared and overmatched, which is not real fun to watch. Oswalt sure is a good pitcher, though... he's one of the best. ~Bill
  5. I picked the Dodgers to win the World Series, and I'm going to be right. That's all I got. Keep your chins up, ~Bill
  6. I thought Albert Pujols played for the Cardinals. Why is he wearing Jason Repko's Dodgers uniform? ~Bill
  7. That was utterly predictable. Thanks for everything, Mr. Wunsch... ~Bill
  8. Kelly Wunsch owes us several million runs. ~Bill
  9. Err, dollars. ~Bill http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. If he tries to steal, I'm going to tomorrow's game and killing Ned Yost. Seriously. ~Bill
  11. They're hitting the ball hard. It's just getting caught. I think you're getting the two teams' confused, clancy. ~Bill
  12. Josey did his best to help us out there, but that dude from Major League II made a sweet play at first. The pickle and cheese sammich can do a lot, but it can't make Wes Helms hit right-handers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif BTW, did anybody else see Perez angrily cursing at some fans above the Dodgers' dugout? Seemed pretty vicious. ~Bill
  13. That's right, Odalis Amadol Perez... you just got owned by a cheese and pickle sammich. And you have a lame name. So take that! ~Bill
  14. You're welcome, everyone. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif ~Bill
  15. As far as I can tell, that's a cheese and pickle sandwich. If that won't get us a hit, nothing will. ~Bill
  16. I've had enough... time to break out the big guns. http://starbulletin.com/1999/01/06/features/artb.gif LET'S GET A HIT!!! ~Bill
  17. They start Choi at first against righties and Saenz against lefties. They start Valentin at third against righties and Nakamura against lefties. They start Ricky Ledee in left against righties and (for now) Jayson Repko against lefties, but both Grabowski and Werth figure into that equation, too. Phillips and Bako also platoon somewhat behind the plate. I wanted to go to this game but I'm poor. There are like 12 people there. Yikes. ~Bill
  18. This doesn't look like a regular Dodger line-up tonight. The Dodgers are platoon-crazy. I love it... they turn marginal players into valuable commodities that way, and it keeps their bench strong. I heart the Dodgers. But not tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill

  20. Perez is starting tonight unless something happened to him. There's nothing on Google News, so I think rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  21. Maybe Mike Maddux should rub some sun tan oil on the guy and try to mentally fool him into thinking he's back in Spring Training pitching in Arizona. He just misses his hot tub. And that Beltre story is pretty funny... thanks for sharing that, SBS! ~Bill
  22. I stand by my statement that if Chris Magruder and Wes Helms are our best chances vs. LH pitchers that this team is going to be in deep trouble. Don't get me wrong... I agree with you, at least to some degree. I just think that today's game is one of the few situations in which our bench isn't completely useless insofar as Magruder and Helms are reasonably productive against southpaws. The fact that we have zero good hitters against right-handers and no true "lefty mashers" (Helms could be, but I'm not holding my breath anymore) is very problematic. And that's not even mentioning the lack of versatility and the one bench outfielder. Bench, thy name is bad. ~Bill
  23. This is actually one of the situations when Magruder is valuable... he's a pretty good right-handed hitter and he can take over in one of the three outfield positions without killing the lineup. He's been pretty terrible against right-handers, though, so his value is limited. Helms has hit well against left-handers, too, so he contributes something. The rest of the bench is entirely unimpressive even against left-handers. The big problem is that most pitchers throw with their right hand and against them, we're in a gunfight and we're out of bullets. ~Bill
  24. I had to go play outside with my dog after this one... I encourage everyone to go outside, play some catch or go for a walk, and enjoy the great WI weather. Unless you're not from Wisconsin - then go enjoy the [good/bad] [somewhere] weather. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif How aboot Victor Santos, eh? That was one heck of a pitching performance against a pretty impressive lineup. He had all eighteen of his pitches working and he just looked awesome... it's hard not to be excited about a fourth starter with that kind of ceiling. Hopefully the fact that he didn't pitch in Winter Ball this year will help him stay stronger... you can't argue with his stuff, in any case. And how good is Scott Rolen? Wow. We'll survive, as rough as this series was. ~Bill
