  1. well, that statatory rape commercial is pretty creepy to have on a Brewers telecast
  2. That's actually giving FIP a lot more credit than it's worth. Defense certainly plays a role (or lack thereof in the case of the Brewers.) But FIP doesn't differentiate between a dribbler back to the mound vs. a line drive to center. So like most sabermetric stats, it can't be used as a definitive metric. So all this tells me is the Brewers staff gets a higher % of their outs via SO, and that lowers their FIP. In fact, the severe shifts the Brewers use negates part of the "bad defense" excuse.
  3. While I'm on board the replace McGehee/Yuni train, are they just easy scapegoats? Did some quick research and found some numbers that are rather alarming. For a pitching rotation that was supposed to at least compete with teams like the Phillies, Giants, and Cards they are not even coming close. Here's how our rotation stcaks up in NL rankings: ERA: 13th OPS: 10th WHIP: 9th This tells me that while trading for KRod is nice, Barmes/Furcal would help, bringing Green up would help.... none of that will matter unless the rotation is better than the numbers above.
  4. Every time I come to bf.net I'm just hoping to see the words "Green to Milwaukee, McGehee optioned to Nashville" I've said over a month ago casey should be sent to Nashville, there really is no downside. He's literally been hitting Nieves-esque since May. I would like an improvement over Yuni, but he's not hurting this team nearly as much. Besides, this line-up could really use another lefty in Green. Everything about this move makes sense. Now I know DM/RR will always have more patience than I do in situations like this. (Nieves, etc.) But the time has to be now, even for them. If he was hitting the ball hard and just getting "unlucky" it's one thing. But he's deciding BEFORE every pitch if he's going to swing, if he's going opposite field, etc. You can tell. Doesn't matter what the pitch is or where. I'll bet my house Cirillo could suit up tonight and play better defense and scratch more hits than McGehee.
  5. I wish it was as simple as Yuni/Casey. Yo blows up too often, Greinke hasn't been near an ace, horrible base running by just about everyone too often, horrible defense, the list goes on and on. Ok I will. Russian roulette in the bullpen. You may get a great night out of someone, or they may not be able to get anyone out. Too many bad approaches at the plate. Some of the defense I can overlook. We knew what we were getting. But beyond that, most of this stuff comes down to just not playing the game the way it should be played.
  6. Perfect, not only play a horrible game, blow out he whole bullpen to start the road trip. Why not let Estrada go 4 innings?
  7. I just don't believe a team that plays this bad this often can make the playoffs, much less make a run in the playoffs.
  8. Anyone try this Game Connect from Fox? Nice eye candy, but why wouldn't they have live Foxtrax with even more pitch info like MLB? Am I missing it? Unusable without the indiv pitch info.
  9. Wow, it took a Mets fan to put this in perspective. 20 pages and I'm still seeing names like Gamel. McClendon/Fiers is exactly the type of players we're talking about as the PTBNL. One AAAA type of player and one guy from the lower minors that is not a huge prospect. I saw Stetter's name come up a lot, and that won't happen either. Brewers don't have many options for LHP out of the bullpen, DM certainly isn't going to trade away a guy who may help the team during a pennant drive.
  10. I think Mark A would be open to pushing it up over $90MM, but not just for the sake of doing it. I think they will look at it in terms of the next 3-5 years, not just 2012. For example, they could try to lock in Marcum and/or Greinke early. Then it just depends when and how they spread out that money. They don't really have a need to spend a ton of money next year otherwise. The rotation is bascially set, and so are most of the starting position players. (Assuming some combination of Gamel/McGehee/Green at the corners.) They could spend a ton on SS I suppose, but I don't know who's out there. IF they wanted to, seems like they have room for another big contract if they want to go that route.
  11. 80MM? According to the BF.net salary page, looks more like $57MM after you subtract Yuni's $6MM team option. I realize that $57MM won't fill the 25 man roster, so more payroll will be added but where is the $80MM coming from?
  12. If anything, there may come a time when he's moved to LF. I don't think that's very likely either, but it's at least possible. 2-3 years down the road if they have a top shelf prospect at 2B, and nobody like that to play OF I'm sure it's something that would at least be considered. At that point Braun could move to RF, Weeks in LF. But SS? No, I just don't see it as a real possibility. With that said, it would be fun to trade for his brother and have a DP combo of Weeks-Weeks.
  13. I wouldn't even call it 7 innings then lights out. We need to be realistic. Axford has been very good, but it's reasonable to expect a couple blown saves. KRod is an improvement for the 8th inning, but it's not like he's untouchable. Very simply, this was a chance to imprve the team, and DM jumped at it. But let's not pretend that somehow this is an automatic 6 outs at the end of every game.
  14. There's a restauarant/bar owned by a British guy, famous for big gatherings for Olympics, World Cup, British Premiere Leugue, etc. One problem....can't remember the name for the life of me.
  15. Here's hoping it's just coach speak. We can't take everything RR says literally. He still can't bring himself to call Morgan/Gomez a platoon, even though that's exactly what it is. He says he has complete faith in Loe, but gives the 8th inning to others, and then they trade for KRod. I really want to believe RR realizes there's no reason to fix what's not broken.
  16. Can we please put the following to rest, once and for all: 1) KRod will not be the closer. Sure, if Axford pitches 2-3 days in a row, KRod will get occasional save opportunites. But nowehere close to 21. More like 5. 2) Even though it's been explained over and over, top prospect names keep showing up here every time some uniformed member of the media mentions a name. PTBNL will not be Gamel, Green, Gindl, Thornburg, are anyone else at or near that level.
  17. It will be interesting to see if the Classies are willing to give up what it will take to get Heath Bell. (Although sliding into the pitcher's mound wasn't very classy, maybe that eliminates the Cards as a trading partner?) If you look around at the contenders, I don't see anyone who needs a closer as much as the Classies do?
  18. Why do I have WHOAA SOLVD dancing through my head?
  19. Remember when the Brewers would automatically be one of those 10 teams?? You didn't even have to wonder, it was automatic.
  20. Green won't be one of the PTBNL either. We have to understand the Mets NEEDED to trade KRod. The takers list was limited, since anyone who would be interested in him couldn't use him as a closer. (Well technically they COULD, but practically speaking....no.) Many of these teams already have set-up guys as good or better than KRod. So the Brewers don't need to give the Mets anyone that is MLB ready, or close to it. As Melvin said, the players will have POTENTIAL of making MLB at some point. Well that's GM speak. Every minor league player has that chance, or they wouldn't be in the system. Think of guys in AAA that aren't in the Brewers plans, or guys in A or A+ that are borderline prospects. As someone said...a guy like Ross... It won't be Gamel, Gindl, Green, Thornburg, Rivas, Peralta....guys like that.
  21. Farris maybe, not Gindl. Melvin likes him, and I don't think he needs to give up someone that good. Maybe Katin? Always been surprised nobody wants him in any of these deals. He could put up some numbers for a few teams.
