  1. There are a lot of threads running saying that we should essentially concede the division to our rivals from the south. I for one am not ready to do so. I have to admit it doesn't look good right now but we are still in first place and there are two months to go. Heck the season is only 2 thirds done. Am I optimistic? No. I just want to remind everyone that this thing is not over yet. This, as the last week has shown, is a strange game and anything can happen. So while I am clearly in the minority on this I will not give up hope until there is no hope. And with 50+ games remaining anything can still happen.
  2. We are going to St Louis this weekend for the Cardcinal series. Does any body know what it's like? do they have ample parking? Is tailgating allowed? Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Seems like a lot to pay for a reliever who is having a down year but maybe Melvin knows something we don't. He seems to be a guy who trusts his scouts and there haven't been a whole lot of times in the past when his scouts have been wrong. Having said that this looks an awful lot to me like a preliminary move to picking up a bat for one of our current pitchers.
  4. I was playing around with the Baseball Reference Play Index and ran a search to find the top K/BB ratios for pitchers with over 1000 IP here are the results 1 Curt Schilling 4.36 2 Pedro Martinez 4.28 3 Ben Sheets 4.06 4 Cy Young 3.78 5 Johan Santana 3.73 I would say that puts Ben in pretty good company. It is interesting that 4 of the 5 are still active and the fifth retired about 100 years ago. For comparison Randy Johnson is 16th, Clemens is 26th, Christy Matthewson is 24th and Koufax is 29th. By the way Fingers 1s 45th and Higuera is 72nd.
  5. I smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years and quit cold turkey in 2000. I used an anti-depressant and chewed on straws for the first 2 months. It also helps if you can sleep a lot. Thats a good way to pass the time. the 1st 2 weeks were the hardest but it got better after that. Good Luck!!!
  6. Because of sample size I reserve the right to take this back later but right now Prince is no longer the best hitter on this team. This guy is clearly the real deal. His current numbers are nuts. 21 RBI in his 1st 29 games in the bigs. That's ridiculous. The one thing he could improve on , if you're looking for a weakness, would be his walk rate (9 BB/114 AB)and his K rate (27 in 29 games) but other than that he's a complete stud.
  7. I am sick of all the lineup juggling.I think it's important to provide a young team with some stability. That isn't being done right now. I wonder how much Melvin's comments over the winter about Ned leaving Jenks in the lineup too long are playing into this. Is Ned concerned that Melvin might drop the axe because Ned isn't doing enough too get the team going? This certainly isn't the way he's done things in the past. Any way here's my lineup: Hart Hardy Braun Fielder Weeks Jenks Estrada Hall What happened to Hart batting leadoff was his .370 OBP getting too high? Leave him there for crying out loud. If Hall heats up, move him up, but for now 8 is the best slot for him. I wouldn't complain if you switch around 5,6 ,& 7 but this is how I would prefer it to look.
  8. While R-RA is a fairly accurate formula for predicting wins that doesn't mean that the Brewers are going to start losing more it could simply mean that there are fewer 10-1 blowouts in their future and the differential could grow to more accurately reflect the team's record rather than the record changing to reflect the differential. In other words it's too early to tell.
  9. Does anyone know if there is a box score available for this game? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
