  1. Of all the disappointments this year I think Prince is my biggest. In the field he just looks god awful and don't get me started about the hitting.
  2. What in God's name is a 25 year old man doing sliding down handrails? The last time I did that I was stil in grade school. This is what happens when Budweiser and stupidity get together. Tragic
  3. All the things you say are true. The point of my original post wasn't that he shouldn't be fired it was that firing the manager (of any team noy just this one) is not a panacea for a teams troubles. In fact I said in my post that Yost should go. It seems there are many on this board who feel that if DM fires Yost the Crew will go out and win 30 of their next 40 or something like that. That is most likely not going to be the case. There are those rare exceptions (the 82 Brewers) where firing the manager was all the team needed to turn it around. But for the most part when a team is struggling firing the manager is not the ENTIRE answer. It can be part of the solution but it rarely solves everything.
  4. I agree completely. I have said along that firing the manager is not the answer to the team's problems. Is firing Yost going to get Gagne pitching like a closer? Or Raise Weeks' OBP above .380? No. Thats ridiculous. I do think it would help the team if Yost went (depending, of course, on who replaced him) but not as much as fixing some of the other problems this team has. I've said this before, Yost does not hit or pitch or play the field and right now these are the team's major worries. It's not about bullpen management right now it is about poor play.
  5. Even if he does go "super 2" there aren't too many years (if any) in this deal where the Brewers lose money over what they would have had to pay in arby or in free agency. The only place they lose for sure is with the $2.3M signing bonus this year. Other than that, assuming his production remains constant, the team comes out ahead in every year of this deal, IMO. Enough in fact to more than recover the money lost to the signing bonus.
  6. This is an absolute steal. Imagine what a player of his caliber would demand on the open market in 6 years. I would imagine $15M - $20M/year minimum with inflation. Of course there's always the risk of injury but it's well worth it in this case. Great signing.
  7. I guess having been a baseball fan for forty years I find it hard to get very upset over a slump in early May. Let's try to keep a little perspective here people.
  8. That's what I'm wondering. How in the heck did he ever clear waivers?
  9. This is a major surprise to me. Bush could herlp the bullpen more than some of the people who are staying. I usually side with Doug but I really think this is a bad move
  10. I've never met him but my impression of Braun is about that of this relief pitcher. I love him as a ball player but I'm not sure I would like him as a human being. I'm sure there are others who are equally cocky but that doesn't make it okay. I certainly don't fell that one year of success should lead to that type of attitude. But then again it is his cockiness which in part helped him get where he is. Still, I feel some of his antics are completely unnecessary.
  11. What bothers me most about this is that a team lacking LH bats gave one up for what amounts to a a bag of balls. (apologies to Butler and his family)
  12. I agree completely. If we lose McClung to a waiver claim is anyone here going to be that upset about it? Lets let the best 12 pitchers in the organization pitch for the major league team. Seems pretty simple to me.
  13. With Yo set to come back soon is tonight Bush's last chance to save his starting job? He certainly hasn't done anything so far to even mildly indicate he deserves to stay there. My guess is if he pitches poorly tonight he'd bound for the pen and McClung is bound for Nashville. But what if he pitches well tonight? Do you bump Manny or CV? I dunno. If it were my call I would say Bush is done as a starter no matter what happens tonight. Unfortunately last I heard, I wasn't going to get a vote.
  14. I agree completely with the original post. When Melvin signed him I figured it was to invite him to camp on a whim just to see how he would do. They would then give him a bus ticket home or a coachuing job in West Virginia or somewhere. Looks like I was wrong. 3 homers in 11 games as a platoon player. Nicely done Gabe.
  15. You have to remember that they only lost the division by 2 games despite there pitching staff imploding midsummer in 07. There is no reason not to be optimistic at this point. The only question is the back end of the rotation (which has looked good in their first start) and the closer where results are mixed. I think we have more talent than the Cubbies do at this point and barring major injuries we can win this thing. Where is the weakness in this batting order? I frankly don't see one at this point. Their worst offensive strarter is probably Hardy or Kendall and I'll take that anyday.
  16. Great job of catching this. It almost seems as if he was cheating he would do a better job of hiding it than that. Not saying he's not cheating but he'd have to be pretty stupid to make it that obvious. But then again what's the explanation if he's not greasing the ball? Interesting to say the least.
  17. I knew the criticism of Yost was coming but I thought people would at least wait until after Tax Day. He may not use Riske for another week it's way too early to be drawing conclusions about use or misuse of the pen.
  18. What's wrong with that? Is it bad to be entertaining? If you want actual sports coverage then sign up for ESPNNews. There's nothing wrong with that except that is not what they are supposed to be about IMO. If it works for you than that's fine. I guess they just haven't lived up to what I hoped they wuold become. That's all. I'm just disappointed.
  19. The reqason i don't like ESPN is because they have almost become a prody of themselves. They hype themselves as the center of the sports universe and then put on crap like PTI and Around the horn where sports writers are allowed to feed their egos by being allowed to believe they are actually "national experts". They have createrd a stable of such people(Kornheiser, Wilbon, Steve Smith, Lupicka etc...). They have become more about entertainment than actual sports coverage. It is really sad because they began as a good concept and got caught up in their own hype.
  20. I would think Yo would move into the rotation and Manny will go to Nashville. The pen doesn't really need another arm (Bush or CV) and they really want to limit Parra's innings so that makes the most sense to me.
  21. 1 Bill Hall hits 30 Homers 2. Brewers sign Sheets to a 4yr $60M contract 3. Weeks has a 25/25 year
  22. I think we are much stronger because of the depth we now have there are 3 or 4 guys (Torres, Riske, Turnbow, Mota?) who could pitch in a setup role with alot of other teams. It doesn't matter where you rank in March but it's nice that someone recognizes that we have improved. Let's see where we are on Labor Day.
  23. Why does being famous earn you the right to make a fool out of yourself by playing a spring treining game? How many people actually are buying into the sentimental "Way to go Billy" crap? This is a ridiculous farce, IMO.
  24. Are you suggesting the Brewers owe him something or they should give him "pity pay" because his Dad ripped him off? That's ridiculous. I really don't think giving him a couple million now will have him in a Brewer uni in five years anyway. So why set a precedent that is going to be hard to go back on with future kids?
