  1. I can't make Sunday, too much going on. I don't even wanna try to get out of my commitments because it involves my mother, and my wife. I back outta stuff with them to play practice softball, and I"m a dead man. Next- I gotta say I'm impressed with how things are going in practices. We took it up a level or two today; playing assigned positions, working on cut offs, and some solid hitting. Mary was watching, she said we looked very comfortable out there and it appeared as if we had been practicing a bit longer than we actually have been. I should have gotten to a few more balls, but my back was a bit sore so I laid off extending myself terribly far. Things I've noticed so far: Some good power at the plate Some guys who will get on base frequently; giving the big hitters RBI opportunities We have some guys with nice soft hands on the infield. Lots of nice stabs and pulling balls out of the dirt. Good throws to first for the most part. Good cut offs and other players telling the thrower where to go with the ball. Good backing up of throws At the plate it seems as if there were lots of guys going with the pitch and not trying to pull everything. This is a good thing. In power leagues it's not terribly good, but if we continue to hit the ball where it's pitched, we'll be successfull and get ourselves extra runners. I think that after the next practice, guys will have the rust off and will be able to reach more balls. I also think we'll have a better idea on how to judge the ball. Things to look at: I'd like to finalize some regular positions for players. I'd like to have us figure out where to put our tenth man. Will we have four outfielders= L. LC. RC. R? OR L, short LC to RC, C, R? Start to establish a batting order that will for the most part not change over the season if possible. I'd like to get everyboy to start with balms and clear creams. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif We need someone to volunteer for catcher. I'd highly recommend our catcher wear a "helmet" when behind the plate. What did you guys notice?
  2. Can't seem to find the orginal thread. What day is our first game again? (robin 19) I can't seem to find it either. I looked in the issues forum and all 20 pages of off topic. I think it dropped off already. First game is May 11th 8 pm
  3. I'll leave the practice balls and my bat with someone if you guys need it for sunday. BTW- if you're practicing Saturday and then Sunday, good luck with that. I took till Tuesday to recover last time out.
  4. As far as aluminum bats go, I'd suggest trying to get one with a nice "drop" to it. a 34 inch bat that weighs 28 oz. has a "drop" of -6. (the difference between length and weight is the drop) The greater the drop, generally the greater the greater the bat speed. I spent $30.00 on a drop 6 Nike bat which needs more hits to "break it in" Unfortunately, with a $30.00 bat, you usually get a single wall bat with a non-shock absorbing grip on it. Non absorbing can rob power and single wall bats can dent rather easily especially in cool weather. Here's a Bat buyer's link I found interesting and helpfull. Also make sure which ever bat you select is ASA approved. (there will be a stamp on the bat) If your sporting goods store is picked over, you may want to check ebay.
  5. Oh, BTW- If you've not paid league fees, please bring them and fill out a player card. I'll have schedules for everyone as well. See you tomorrow
  6. I called th eoffice to double check. Metal Spikes are allowed in our league. RAIN: Use your best judgement. If it's pouring at noon, I'd say practice is surely cancelled. If it's a bit of a drizzle, we can probably throw the ball around. We should probably check in here on this thread before we leave for practice just to double check. East Side drive time: Took me about 20 minutes total.
  7. Here's that pitching chart fixed up a bit: IP H R ER BB K HR Season ERA T. Ohka 4.0 8 6 4 4 3 1 4.09 J. Lehr 1.0 1 1 1 0 2 1 1.59 J. de la Rosa 0.2 1 3 3 2 2 0 9.45 M. Adams 0.1 1 2 2 1 0 1 20.25
  8. Just a reminder- Practice is Saturday at 1 pm again and it'll be at the diamond we talked about. If you guys plan to get together and need the practice balls let me know. I can't do Sunday but next Thurs is a possibility.
  9. Seems like Colbyjack is a good candidate for the "left out" position. Actually, maybe we can get a few people together for a Thursday evening chuck the ball around and maybe take a few hacks.
  10. 2 of us were there. I cried myself to sleep. May will be a good turn out though. Saturday: 5/6 9:10 @ LA
  11. I bought a scorebook when I got all the game and practice balls. I'm also thinking we need to start establishing positions. I was thinking instead of breaking in groups that we'd all take positions on the field and work on cuttoffs, relays, force plays, and decide where our tenth man is to be positioned. (I was thinking short left center) Start generating some ideas and share them. This is a team run by the team so we all have an equal say.
  12. Milwaukee Houston --------- ------- Pos Player HR RBI AVG. 13. This is the only time I'm going to post this for the season. When you see total slams on a Brewer player when in the IGT, it is -a joke- it is -a reverse jinx- this goes back to the Boston Red Sox coming back after being down 3-0 to NYY. I ripped the Sox each game after that, they won, the jinx took on a life of it's own. The obvious humor in the bashing of guys is meant to make them light it up. Yes, Hardy has 15 hits, but his OBP is .281 so he suffers my wrath.
  14. On the subject of JJ Hardly: Having you at the plate is about as usefull as walking into a Blockbuster and looking for the Betamax section. Hey JJ: I know why you wear gloves when it's your turn to "hit"- your bat is as cold as ice. JJ's bat is made of "would". I wonder what would happen if he actually got a hit. Yo, JJ: first base is that way! (point towards the bag) From the Dictionary- Futility: 1. The quality of having no useful result; uselessness. 2. Lack of importance or purpose; frivolousness. 3. A futile act. 4. See also the On base Percentage of Milwaukee Brewer JJ Hardy. JJ Hardly: proving to Brewers fans every where that he should be listed as 10th in the batting order. Maybe you should try hitting with your glove, it's the only thing working for you. JJ Hardy: Ju, Ju-st can't hit. I tried finding a category on the Brewers site that lists JJ Hardy near the top. It won't list players alphabetically.
  15. (Any chance of having a game-day thread for your games?) Oh, we'll do something foolish. Trust me.
  16. I'm watching again. I don't know why I'm doing this to myself, but I'm watching.
  17. Haha. it's not like we got trounced 15-1 like Baltimore did.
  18. People get frustrated because loses in April cost just as much as losses in Sept.
  19. Thank goodness I have the baseball package. I'm going to watch a different game. (Not that I've been watching this for the past hour) We've been watching 'It's a Big Big World' on MPTV Kids which, sadly enough is more captivating than the Brewers game is at this point.
  20. 1. 1997 2. Mariano Rivera was grandfathered in and still wears it. DING! DING! DING! need you to inbox me your addy if you want the magnet.
  21. Bottom of the 9th! is up and running right now in the issues forum.
  22. Two part question. 1. When was the jersey #42 retired by the MLB? 2. Is is is the last person who will ever wear jersey number 42? you have untill 8:15 pm CST. That's 15 minutes folks. edit: DOH! winner gets a magnetic schedule donated by temke.
  23. Good thing you have Eckstein to support the offense. JK. schlitz001: Very fine smak talk. If you'd like a 2006 Brewers refrigerator magnet send me your address via in box. I like that one....
  24. Hey. Ya stopped the ball, that's what matters. Ball took a tough hop though. BTW: My thighs and calves are killing me.
  25. I'm turning off the game. I no longer feel like watching this trash. I may very well boycott tomorrow's game as well. It's not the loss that bothers me, it's -how- we have continued to lose games on this trip. sickening.
