  1. Milwaukee junps to 15-11. That's two games ahead of last season into 26 games. Milwaukee lead the Major Leagues in HR's for about 5 minutes before Detroit took back over (Tigers 41, Brewers 40) Brewers team ERA is 4.17
  2. Well, it seems as if we have three people who said they would play softball back out on the team. I've sent private messages to the three people and I've gotten no reply, nothing at all. These people have had since the inception of the team to contact me with payment arrangements or intentions of showing up for practice. These people have not contacted me about the first game either. It's obvious they don't care to play and they no longer have a roster spot available to them. I would like to fill at least one spot, hopefully 2. If you'd like to play on the team, please post here or let me know via inbox. I'll extend the date in which I turn in player cards untill Thursday morning or perhaps Friday morning. Fee is $26.50 for Milwaukee residents, or $38.50 for non-MKE residents. We can meet quickly some place for payment and schedule exchange.
  3. Bill (clap, clap- clap) Hall. [repeat] Lee hits a dinger. Next man up swings at the first pitch. Hall hits a dinger. Next man up swings at the first pitch. Why don't these guys wait to see what Wandy does? Work his pitch count more. He has shown he'll make mistakes. Why not get his arm more tired? Right Rotator Cuff strain for Ohka.
  4. Ohka sure gave Rodriguez a nice pitch to bunt on. Kazoo should have thrown something higher than that to make it a tough bunt.
  5. I don't care -what- the Houston team site lists Wandy Rodriguez at, he looks almost like a jockey out there. No way he's 5'11". Look at him. Is anyone else noticing a "foggy" appearance to this broadcast? The picture on FSN makes it look like Miller Park is full of a smog, or smoke. I just flipped to ESPN and that picture is clear.
  6. Ron Tingley rings a bell from Milwaukee's A.L. days. I looked him up, I remember Uecker talking about him in some manner.
  7. Always nice to see a stomping of the Cubs and a series win at Wrigley. That ties the all time series at 63 each. Brewers won this series out scoring the stubs 27-8. The two games we won were by an average of 11.5 runs. Today's win puts Milwaukee over Chicago in the standings. Brewers take over fourth place (14-11) and Chicago drops to (13-10).
  8. Colbypatrick- You told me you wouldn't be able to make practices. You mentioned you'd like to practice other days and then you did go practice other days. That's way cool. I'm not upset, I just need to crack the whip so I canturn in player cards and fees so everyone who wants to play can play. BTW- Oddly enough, I can't make it Sunday because I have to work so I guess I'll have to wait to toss the ball around with you untill a game.
  9. I'm not sure how it'll be. Perhaps Sunday's practice could be moved to the other diamond (the first week's practice diamond) to play a grass infield. I'd think it will slow the ball down a bit and give a bit more bounce to grounders. The dirt infield we were playing was pretty soft and killed the ball pretty often. I thought there would be more bouncing at times and the ball would just die on me.
  10. First off, let me please say how proud I am of the guys on the team. I think we will be pretty good. We've got some good power, speed, and fielding. We can also excel at dropping singles and doubles on you all game long as well so, I'd have to say that we will probably be a tough team to beat. Next, I'd like to remind you of our practice next Sunday @ Noon same location as usual, Hales Corners Park right by the pool. Third, I want to thank you guys for showing up at practices like you have been. I know we can't make them all, other things pop up. I appreciate people letting me know of an absence by use of the thread or by inbox. I'd also like to thank those who went out and bought equiptment to play. Thanks also for your contributions in practice with drill ideas, willingness to play an uncomfortable position, etc. Thanks for paying your fees promptly either in person, or by mail. I need to play tough guy here for a paragraph, so here goes. When I first asked guys if they wanted to play, we had 19 interested parties. I asked for a confirmation from people and the number dropped to 18. Out of the 18 players that remain, I've seen 15. I have 3 people whom I have not gotten payment from, nor have they contacted me about payment arrangements. I won't name players here, I will send them private messages asking for payment if they still want to play. I had set up team fees based upon the number of players who commited to me and now if anyone backs out, I get to make up their share of costs from my own wallet. I have to go pay the player fees (team fees are paid) this week Wednesday, May 3rd. If I have not been paid by you by that time, you don't play. I can't help it, not my rule. Talk to Milwaukee Recreation about it if you have a problem with the date, not me. I also need to ask all of you if you've filled out your player cards. I forgot to check today at practice, if you have not yet filled out a card, let me know via inbox or my brewerfan email address jamie@brewerfan.net so I can fill it out for you before turning them all in. Failure to have a card turned in by the first game means you don't play per Milwaukee Rec rules. I know that I have to fill out a card for Houlie and Bball, so please contact me ASAP. I would like to finish this post by letting non players know that they can obtain shirts if wanted in the store section of the site. Softball Shirt Link I think it is not a stretch to let you all know that this team looks quite impressive. I don't know what the rest of the league will look like, but I can't see how they would be much better than brewerfan.net will be. You can also be confident that considering this site is loaded with baseball junkies that we will surely have statistics available for all to view. Good stats or bad, they will be posted. You can also expect to see in the near future an opening day lineup which I'd like to get a vote on from the players. Players: Do you think that we could set up a date and time to meet in the chat room to discuss positions and batting order? I think it's a good idea as mentioned before to mix up our lineup putting power and high average hitters all over the place so that defenses can't play us according to the batting order. I was thinking Sunday may 7th at 7:30 pm would be a good time for a chatroom meeting. Brewers play at 3:10 cst, so we can have the chat room by meeting time. Thanks for the time to read this, please remember to contact me about player cards. Thanks Jamie <-- aka the Skipper. lol
  11. Scouting Report: It has been a rough start to 2006 for Davis to say the least. His most recent start was his five-inning, nine-walk performance against Cincinnati on Sunday. Davis tied a dubious club record with his nine free passes, and the Brewers went on to lose the game, 11-0. One of the National League's top authors of quality starts over the past two seasons, Davis has yet to pitch deeper than the sixth inning in five starts this year. The lefty had walked four batters over 15 innings in his first three starts but against St. Louis on April 22, he walked four and gave up two hits over 4 2/3 innings. And they were badly timed walks -- as if there ever are good ones. He had teamed up with catcher Henry Blanco in his previous start and done well. Rusch needs to stay aggressive.
  12. Game on. I think we should try to get practice in. If it's raining at 1 pm, stay home, otherwise I think it would be best to try and git 'er done. Sorry it took a bit to post this, I just got up. I was out late last nignt.
  13. This series is just what the doctor ordered. Some nice small ball, some power, great pitching by the starters, good stuff.
  14. Ok, I'm tuning in for the post game reading of the thread. I got home and got busy, then into a good Koontz novel. I had a good time too, even though AJ won the sausage race pick. I took the Bratwurst who cheated, got a lead out of the blocks for about half the race, and then crumbled like Bobby Cox in the playoffs. Tonight for the most part, the game was kind of secondary. I was with my father-in-law as mentioned so, we shot the breeze quite a bit. I learned alot about him, and we mostly talked baseball. I can honestly say that was a good time that I'll remember for quite some time. Each run or great play it was high five to Brian and AJay, or passing along the bag of peanuts at other times. Lots of good ol' strategy speak, trivia junk, etc. I'd like to do that again sometime soon. Thanks to Brian and AJay for the fun time, and thanks to Carlos Lee and Tomo "the kazoo" Ohka for the win.
  15. I'm in 323 row 5 seats 1-4. Stop and say hi!
  16. I am fortunate enough to be going to the game tonight with tickets I got from Pedro (username) he had left over. Once I finally found his house in that subdivision he resides in I was the proud owner of 300 level tickets which I'll be sharing. I'm currently 3-1 and since it's the club level, hopefully there won't be any more drunken foolishness all around me. Maybe I outta stop and get a kazoo before the game?
  17. Wow. Seems as though my Father-in-law went to High School with Bouton and played H.S. Baseball with him as well.

  19. Please no beer. Milwaukee Rec is waaay adamant about that. I will be suspended from play as will the player(s) drinking. As far as food- I could eat a few brats. Mary and Rachel will be with me. Don't go nutty though on food. I need these guys in "game shape" and full tummies= slow players. lol
  20. Well folks, it seems as if yet another member has been the recipient of some good fortune, which he has decided to share with the site. This trivia contest is for a copy of Ball Four by Jim Bouton. Being in Nevada, our fine friend is unable to attend a Long Wong's event, or fan Fest, but Southwest Brewer will as always, be with us in spirit. I'd like to take this moment to remind you of the Long Wong's away game on May 6th, @ La Dodgers 9:10 pm cst. Bouton's tale of baseball will be sent to the winner by mail. This contest will run untill it's been answered correctly. I don't even have the answer so don't ask me for help, you may be able to coax the contest's donor into some help if you ask nicely though. Without further delay, and with a large thank you to Southwest Brewer I give you the opportunity to get your hands on a great read. ----------------------------------------------------------- 7 times in the past 50 years the AL (4 times) and NL (3 times) have been so close that they were decided by the outcome of 1 final at bat. Twice this situation occured with players on the same team. (for example if Fielder has a 2006 BA of .34444 and Moeller has a 2006 BA of .34447 - the championship came down to one at bat between players on the same team) In 2003 Pujols had a .3578 and Helton had a .3585 batting average. What 2 sets of players were involved, which 2 years, and which team for each year did these players play? Hope you weren't expecting an easy one. Also- if you're looking to rid yourself of Brewers memorabilia, feel free to post a contest here,or PM me and I'll get a contest going for you. http://www.jimbouton.com/i/ballfour2000.gif
  21. So, this is how the Reds felt yesterday huh? I don't like it.
  22. Top four, 0 outs Davis just walked the leadoff hitter again. BB BB BB BB BB BB BB E-1 hawing- You need a new favorite guy. This on'e not doing too well.
  23. Sweet. Looks like a champ Patrick. You guys have one handsome young man there. Hope to see the three of you at a softball game?
  24. I almost think we should abandon a natural batting order and completely alternate between contact and power. That was my idea as well. I figured it could be done with a batting order though. My reasoning was by the third game or so, we'd know where we bat each time through and compliment eachother nicely base hitter, power, base hitter, power, etc.
  25. From the Associated Press MILWAUKEE(AP) The Milwaukee Brewers became the first major league team in 40 years to hit five home runs in one inning Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds. Bill Hall, Damian Miller, Brady Clark, J.J. Hardy and Prince Fielder all homered for Milwaukee in a seven-run fourth. The last team to hit five homers in an inning was the Minnesota Twins on June 9, 1966, in the seventh against the Kansas City Athletics. Three other teams have accomplished the feat: the 1939 New York Giants, 1949 Philadelphia Phillies and 1961 San Francisco Giants _ all against Cincinnati as well. Miller and Clark each hit a two-run shot. The rest were solo home runs. Cincinnati starter Brandon Claussen gave up four of the homers before getting an out in the fourth. That also tied a big league record for most home runs allowed in one inning by a pitcher. He is the fourth Reds pitcher to do so, joining Mario Soto, Jeff Austin, and Jose Acevedo. The Brewers sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth. Hall flied out to end the rally in his second at-bat of the inning. From MLB.com MILWAUKEE -- Counting may not be one of the Milwaukee Brewers strong suits, but hitting the long ball sure was on Saturday. The Brewers tied a Major League record by hitting five home runs in one inning and starter Dave Bush pitched a four-hitter as Milwaukee beat the Cincinnati Reds, 11-0, before 35,768 fans on Saturday. The homers were coming at such a fast and furious pace that some of the Brewers lost count in the dugout. "There was some confusion whether it was four or five [homers]," Milwaukee manager Ned Yost said. Bill Hall started the barrage by leading off the fourth inning with his third homer of the year. "After the third one went out, we got pretty excited in the dugout," Hall said. "After the fourth and the fifth, it was just unbelievable." Damian Miller, Brady Clark, J.J. Hardy and Prince Fielder also homered in the inning. It was only the fifth time in Major League history -- and the first since the Minnesota Twins did it nearly 40 years ago -- that five homers were hit in one inning. "It was meant to be our day," said Miller, who also had three doubles and five RBIs, and said it was the best game of his 10-year career. "It was surreal." Four of the homers in Saturday's game were off Cincinnati starter Brandon Claussen (1-2), tying a Major League record for homers allowed by one pitcher in a single inning. Bush (2-1) pitched his second shutout in 44 career starts, giving up only three singles and a double. He had a two-hitter with two outs in the ninth, but gave up a single to Javier Valentin and a double to Austin Kearns before getting Scott Hatteberg to pop out to end the game. The right-hander walked Ryan Freel on four pitches to open the game, but settled down to strike out nine and walk two in his fourth start since coming to the Brewers in the trade that sent Lyle Overbay to Toronto during the offseason. "I'm not sure what happened," Bush said of the early walk. "I settled back down, still confident in what I was trying to do." He struck out eight in the first four innings, but changed his approach after the Brewers scored seven runs during the fourth-inning home run fest. He spent the rest of the game trying to conserve pitches and force the Reds to put the ball in play. The performance by Bush allowed the Brewers bullpen, which has been overworked the past week, to rest. "They needed a day off to just sit back and enjoy the fireworks," Hall said. Bush entered Spring Training in a three-way battle with Dana Eveland and Rick Helling for the fifth spot in the rotation. He quickly jumped out from the pack by pitching well in preseason games, and has had three good performances in four starts during the season. Yost said he was pleased by Bush's approach to games, and said he was benefiting from being new to the National League. "It's a little tougher when you haven't seen a guy before," he said. The Brewers had gone 3-9 since starting the season 5-0, but had little trouble on Saturday. Miller's first double came with the bases loaded in the second inning, clearing the bases to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Hall led off with a homer and Rickie Weeks followed with a single, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Miller then hit his first homer of the year to make it 6-0. Bush singled and Brady Clark hit his first homer to make it 8-0. Hardy followed with another home run, his third this year to chase Claussen. Two outs later, Fielder hit his third homer, tying a record last accomplished by the Minnesota Twins on June 9, 1966 against Kansas City. The Brewers scored their final run on Weeks' sacrifice fly in the seventh, scoring Fielder. Miller was 4-for-4 with a homer, three doubles and five RBIs. He tied his career record for hits and RBIs in a game. Fielder was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Joe DiGiovanni is a contributor to MLB.com This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs. Box Score Link We had softball practice today. Before the practice started someone asked "Anyone bring a radio?" My reply was "No, and it's probably a good thing too." oof.
